I only recently tumbled onto your playlist and have to say THANK YOU for the fantastic selection of tunes and easy to grasp lessons. You capture the tone, spirit and finer points of songs in a way that most other teachers do not. And again, I dig your choice of tunes - it's all just great!
mrbcx thanks for this kind post and i appreciate you giving your time to check out the vids! I wish you all the best with your music, your friend, dale.
Just started playing again after 15-20 yrs with a full group of guys. This was a great reminder and lesson on some of the chords that were forgotten. Thanks a bunch..sounded great.
Thanks for this I can play it perfectly now. I am only 19 and this is all I play is the good music like ARS. I was born in the wrong era. I love your band covers to. I would love if yall got together again and did "So into You" and "Spooky".
JEFFKLX110 i love ARS and it's great to hear that you love their stuff too - i think we'd have fun playing a lot of tunes together because it seems we have similar taste. Keep rockin' and all the best with your music! dale
Thank you! What a no nonsense tutorial on this great song. You make guitar playing easier for the rest of us guitfiddle players. Keep posting cool jamms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great lessons I really like that you offer some alternative grips. Soon as I find more time I'll really try and get the true chords. I wish you had some Camp Fire simplified versions of songs. Six of us get together twice a month from 6 to1AM and try to play 25 to 40 songs in 7 Hrs and have fun. We don't have the time to really get the tougher chords down as some of us have day jobs. Several times I have watched you and 4 other tutorials to get a quickie Camp Fire set of chords One song was "Black Water" You had a great tutorial . I always check your channel first.
+barneycarparts hello! thanks for the very kind post and sharing your music with me - sincerely appreciated! I love that you guys get together and play on a regular basis - that's so cool. Thanks again, your friend, dale.
Dale ….. U DA MAN …MAN Awesome description and CORRECT inversion breakdown of this very popular ARS..…fun cover …Happy Halloweenie …all you Goblins. ….👻🎃💀☠️☠️
+mike Braxus hey Mike! thanks for the kind post and i totally agree - ARS was a very talented group for sure and gave us so many great tunes. Hope all is good and thanks for checking this out!
Agreed, they defintetely made a nice cover of this song. (Some ARS fans mistakingly think it is an original of their favorite band). They didn't just cover it of course, they added quite a lot of own accents, and what a perfect voice for this song....
Love this tune and the cool chords they use which makes it sound so good, seen it with a 13th chord too but like your method better, easier to form the chord and sounds just as good
Hi Dale, I like that intro part...maybe I can fit that in for next year's version. I just posted my "2014 version"...a little different but still has those 7th and 13th and diminished chords. Glad to have you ck it out if by chance you have a moment....Happy Halloween. 5 Stars! --Van
Mahalo plenty, Dale. Long time no see. Great lesson. I use a 13th (5-x-5-6-7-x) vs the '6'. It sounds a bit fuller, and allows me to get the 6th bass string into the mix....but hey....they both work.
Great. As usual. Gonna try it with my jam tomorrow. The timing of the lead break will be tough. It will be hard to figure when that diminished chord comes while playing the rhythm without the vocals during the guitar solos.
Hiya Dale, Campfire version success. :) I hope you don't mind if I posted this. I found the original Classics 4 recording doesn't do the Key shift from Em to Fm So its easier for our old guy garage band to play. (thank goodness) :) I grab the Em7 at 022x33 and the A6 is a x02222 The B flat dim is like you showed XX2323 For me it sounds the best. I strum by the neck PU with a floppy index finger which sounds softer and jazzy. So, the easy campfire version for us is just those 3 chords (well maybe add a Bm7 too). Thank you for this lesson. This is a great song our chick singers wanted to do for a long time, we just didn't know where to start. You got me motivated and I really learned a lot. PS: I'm subscribed.
Fantastic lesson. re: Diminished chords. They generally seem to b used as a transition chord. I think of Garth Brooks' intro to Low Places. However, I always wonder where or when to insert a diminished chord into my own playing. Watching u do a half step slide into the chord is a nice touch. I'm wondering if u or any one else out there might have a simple idea as to when to use the diminished chord in a common chord progression such as a I, IV, V??? THANKS IN ADVANCE.
Hey Dale, would you consider doing Victim of Love tutorial? i got like 90% of it and could probably fake it in a gig if had to but be nice to have it right thanks Kristian,
Yes. The 6th in the key of A is F#. However in an A13 there is a G note which is the 7th in the key of A. Hence the name A13. (6+7)=13. So.... no, it isn't the same chord. If they were the same chord there would be no need for a 13. They are not the same chord.
Rockee Rockoon thanks for checking this out and i apologize for not explaining the fast lick you mentioned. It is actually the bass line and i was using it more for reference - but sc0ttgi has a great explanation posted. All the best with your music, dale.
tonedr no worries mate, thanks for the lesson - have been learning this one by ear but was struggling to find that damn diminished chord so cheers! Great chord progression for soloing over
cool but theres no tutorial for the piano solo unless of course I listen to the track and pick it apart....ok well there you go I answered my own question...bloody hell...
Hey Tonedr, here is a video of the very thing I am trying to explain: This guy is hitting what you call a Bflat diminished in your video and calling it an E diminished? See if you can shed some musical light on this subject for me and for anyone else that may be wondering?
Ok logical! But theoretically (and no matter what key one is in) it is still the secondary leading tone seven diminished of dominant five or sharp subdominant four diminished, right?
