Spooky Sixties Showdown: The Addams Family VS The Munsters! 

I like the Munsters more simply because it's just fun, funny and great affectionate characters. Plus that theme is just awesome.

I watched both The Munsters and The Addams Family on TV when I was a kid. One of our local stations used to show reruns every weekday after school. I enjoyed both shows, but if I had to choose one, I'd go with The Addams Family because that one seemed more glamorous to me. More elegant? Whereas The Munsters was more camp and played for laughs.

I like both. I remember the cartoon version of the Addams family.

The Addams Family was too sophisticated for me as a kid. I needed the more obvious monster movie tropes of The Munsters.

We need an Addams Family+ Munsters crossover movie or television series. Imagine Gomez Addams & Herman Munster planing their family vacation together or Mortcia Addams, Grandma Addams, Wednesday Addams & Liliy Munster & Marilyn Munster all going on a Girl's Trip together. How about Pugsley Addams & Eddie Munster going to school together or Uncle Fester & Count Sam Dracula (Grandpa Munster) both taking a road trip?

Picking between THE MUNSTERS and THE ADDAMS FAMILY is like picking between the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. They are all great! THE MUNSTERS is the first time in television that they showed a married couple in the same bed. Prior to that, couples such as Rob and Laura and Lucy and Dezi alsways slept in separate beds. THE MUNSTERS was co-created by Alan Burns, who also co-created ROOM 222, HE AND SHE, and THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW. It was produced by Connelly and Mosher who produced LEAVE IT TO BEAVER. I remember two great episodes on BEAVER: 1) Beaver uses money he saved up to get this awesome monster sweatshirt which he gets in trouble for wearing to school. (I think he and his buddies were all going to do it, but he wound up being the only one.) 2) Beaver goes off to see some horror movie and June is worried. Ward tells June that he was a fan of Weird Tales and he turned out all right.

Love both entirely, but if I had to choose it would be The Addams Family. I had a pretty sophisticated childhood, so I identified more with it.

Great video, Mr and Mrs Midnight. Bree always brings such an intellectually engaging element to the conversation that it almost makes me feel guilty to admit The Munsters and I dream of Jeannie are my favourites. When I was a kid, my mom always pointed out who Jackie Coogan was whenever he appeared on something, including mentions of "the Coogan Laws".

Its got to be The Munsters for me. I watched these both when they first aired and in syndication in the seventies and beyond and The Munsters were just more engaging to me. The Addams Family were much more urbane and sophisticated whereas The Munsters were more average American family types, albeit monsters. It was easier to relate to the Munsters than it was to the Addams. I liked The Addams Family but I adored The Munsters.

The Munsters every time. That was on weekdays on BBC2 in the early 80s. I loved it.

I only have The Addams Family on DVD & the movies on DVD too, plus, I have the newest animated ones too. And I also have the comic book too. I don't hate the Munsters. I've watched both of them. But, Mortica & Gomez are goals 🖤

I'm 31 years old, I grew up watching The Addams Family, I was 10 when I first saw it aired on TVLAND, then I immediately fell in love with it, still a die-hard Addams Fan!!

The Munsters played for Broad Laughs.....while Addams Family was more satire. Addams Family was actually better written..... like Bewitched. Munsters was more Gilligan's Island Style humor. Both Great...just different styles.

I have the DVD sets of both series, so I enjoy both. I didn't watch much Addams Family growing up though but always liked The Munsters.

Rob Zombie's The Munsters movie has been rated a good ol' PG! I have way more faith in it now.

I like both of them but I think I preferred The Munsters a little more.

I was more with Heath on the "Jeannie" v. "Bewitched" debate. But this time on Bree's side. For much the reasons she states. The Adams are modelling iconoclastic behavior. Plus, looking back on it now, as a sorta of creepy kid, with beatnik parents, living in a Gothic mansion; I kinda "grew up Adams". Of course, I also loved the Munsters. And I also love how Southern Bree gets when she makes an impassioned point. 😍

The Munsters hands down!! The Addams Family was just too corny for me. But I do love the Addams Family movies 🍿

Lily Munster's look is closer to the lesser-known Mark Of The Vampire than to Bride Of Frankenstein. Also, my vote is for The Munsters because of the Fred Gwynne/Al Lewis double act.

The whole joke with the Munsters is that they look like monsters, but really they're a regular corny sitcom family. The Addams Family look more or less like normal people (albeit they dress a little goth). The strangeness is in how they act. The Munsters LOOK strange, the Addams Family ARE strange. I think that approach makes the Addams Family funnier. The Munsters' humor is a little one-note. Their big gag is someone meeting the family and then running away in fast-motion like Benny Hill. The Addams Family has the good jokes.

I am really enjoying your shows. One suggestion: when discussing two shows perhaps shows quick snippets of each so the audience can compaire and contrast, keep in mind there are lots of people who haven't seen the shows, sad tho that is.

I think when you see how little musnter has had reboots and compared it to the addams family plus I see young people and old watching the addams family the munsters is really just the old people from what you have seen

Like you, I love both, but I'm on Team Bree here. Addams family edges out the Munsters. I like the background of it being a snarky New Yorker cartoon, but honestly the 90s movies (which hit me just at the right edge), probably knock them over the line for me (though I knew the property even before those).

I once had the Munsters DVD of the two seasons and I got back into the show due to TV Land's airing schedule then. I love the Munsters!!! Do the Brady Bunch vs the Partridge Family, that would be great!!!

I always loved the Addams Family best. I liked The Munsters but I thought The Addams Family was brilliant In a way that The Munsters wasn’t. I loved characters like “Thing” and Cousin ITT. The Munsters, though lovable, just acted too normally. The Addams family characters were wonderfully and wittily bizarre!! FYI-Blossom Rock who played “Mama” was Jeannette MacDonald’s sister.

Great topic. I like the "VS. series." Please continue it from time to time. Like you two, I enjoy both the Munsters and the Adam's Family for different reasons. But if I'm on that deserted island, which one am I going to wish I had with me? I'll side with Bree and say the Addam's Family. As a kid, I recall watching in anticipation for some of my favorite scenes / characters: (1) Always the scenes in the train room; (2) The scenes with Cousin It or Thing. Mortisha and Gomez were also always a delight on screen. Cheers

I really want both of these to have but I haven't seen any episodes of the Munsters in years but I've been watching the Addams family on ME TV but maybe for Christmas I'll get one of them? I definitely need to revisit Munsters but as of now I enjoy the Addams family better.
