Players like Sharapova and Sabalenka are not even grunting they are screaming. Doing it deliberately to mask the hit of the ball and delay the opponents reaction as you stated in the clip.
that’s saying it doesn’t give them an advantage but that’s not saying it isn’t necessary or natural … when I play grunting comes naturally it’s not something I do distract my opponent it’s how I generate energy when I’m tired or hitting the ball hard , similar to a “KI-AHP” in martial arts 🥋 it’s necessary
Shrunters do this to put off their opponent as an act of aggression. This is cheating. Tennis rules say that making noises during a point means you lose the point. Why don't umpires enforce this rule.
Me too. A rotten opponent/partner will always try to "uneven" the playing field. Refusing to warm up an opponent, hitting junk to give no rhythm during warmup. Screaming/grunting. Questioning every call, calling every ball that touches the line out... "losing track" of the score, always in their own favor. Grunting has just provided a new outlet. I played a "friend" in a finals and he pumped his fist and yelled like Serena after every fault, double-fault, unforced error... I got sick of it and gave up the match, but drop-shotted him and then tried to hit him at the net. Just for my own score-keeping. Sometimes it's not worth it to play people like this, which is why rules exist. Worst: You can't stand being at a bunch of occupied courts. Once a nice quiet place except for the uneven rhythm of balls being hit, now a scream-fest. But this is dying. Finally. Soon we will look back at this span in history and wonder what all the screaming was about and why it was ever a question as to what led to its decline in popularity.
Just do it yourself and you won’t be mad anymore; most of us that do it can’t really control it if we have been doing it for so long. Even if I consciously try not to, I can’t stop it from happening now and then, especially if I’m playing with a lot of effort (so like actually trying). There are some that are certainly obnoxious but they probably couldn’t stop if they tried either or they’d be all out of sorts.
Martial artists use the same technique. The “hyah*” isn’t 100% necessary, but telling them to do it forces them to use the proper breath technique in order to get that extra power
I understand the grunt when a match is going on for a while and you are quite exhausted but have to keep up playing your best stuff. Anyway, its sorta more of a psychological issue...when I run after a while, I start to "make this exhaustion noise" when breathing out, but then I stop it after a short while and keep it up to make no noise but just to breathe out..only when I'm done after my 12km where I stop right at front of my home door, then climb up the stairs and enter my appartment, once door is shut, I stop the controll and breathe in total exhaustion and with the sound, lay on my bead, almost K.O. and take a bath after like 1 hour when I'm kinda back to my senses again and able to stand up xD
I would say when you can't mute people in the game and they just keep spamming the chat every time they or you do something. Fortunately, there's a mute option and a delay on how many messages you can send at a time. :P
@@tdiaz5555 People over time have discovered new tricks in the game through experiments and pushing limits. I'm talking about things like wave dashes and clipping.
@daAnder71 i think cycling is very different compared to tennis. grunting can help you if you are doing something that requires short bursts of energy...for example, at my local gym, you would hear alot of grunts from the guys doing weightlifting and pull ups, and not too much noise coming from the people running the treadmill or bicycle
@@moptisevare183 honestly, i was born in the 90s so i cant speak on what tennis was like back then, but i can say that grunting is currently considered to be a very normal part of the game. however, i will say that television broadcasts have gotten a lot better in terms of picking up grunting sounds. in most occasions the grunt is much lower in volume than shoe sounds or the crowd or the commentators.(i would imagine that its more annoying to watch a game in real life in though). i will link videos of the last grand slam tournament final (us open) and you can see the grunt noises on both the mens final and women's final are not too loud or dramatic to where you wouldnt be able to watch tennis anymore. mens final (nadal): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S63gJTsLiXc.html womens final (williams and andreescu): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gTdKP61cXhc.html honestly, if you are bothered by that, maybe you should start watching pingpong haha....(also joking)
ESPN go for it... Just focus it more on power on exhale. Society forced them to hold their breathe for fear of freedom, which was unachievable as they were trying to squeeze back into the womb.
