The part about high percentage first read targets is B.S. , i've seen every single college game of Mariota and he did not make alot of throws to first read targets, he would sit in the pocket and scan the entire field often going to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th guy. And he is accurate. The only time I would see him un-accurate seemed like it was usually from fatigue after having ran the ball on a designed run for 10-40 yards then line back up and snap the ball within 10 seconds and have to throw it.
Im not saying Mariota is better but how could you say his percentage dropper to 25% if a. you only reviewed 1 play and b. he threw only 5 interceptions to winston's 18
Mariota had four touchdown passes and a perfect passer rating in his first NFL game. Your like the 49ers that passed up on Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers. Who would've predicted the success of Russell Wilson and Tony Romo. Hard to predict the next great Quarterback
Winston is gonna be better then Marcus he is already familiar with a pro style offense for bout 6 years and Marcus is only familiar with it for 1-2 years and I don't knock mariota he is a nice qb but he really can't throw down the field and I have watched him play back at Oregon he didn't throw bombs he threw slants post curls screens n run plays and option plays he never really threw deep passes so of course he not gone have many interceptions while as jameis is a stud he may not be as fast as mariota but he still can get loose on a bitch ass as ppl have seen the past two seasons he can virtually make every possible throw you would like he can make your off balance throws off your backfoot type throws and much more he also can throw bombers and be very accurate when he is on game his INT'S are something he will get better at n tone in his mechanics and one thing jameis knows how to do better then mariota is he knows how to win better as jameis has a national title to his resume in college while Marcus doesn't But at end of the day jameis will win 1-2 to 2-3 super bowl rings while Marcus will win games n win playoff games n put titans on map n may win a superbowl he is not gonna have the better stats over Winston overall is use to winning very very big games taking the sorry ass bucs from 2-14 to his first season 6-10 to his second 9-7 and is gonna take them to 10-6 11-5 or maybe better and don't say he is a Aaron Rogers hybrid he is not that accurate A-R is a baaaaaaaad man with a pigskin
2015: "Winston set his self apart with his accuracy!" 2019: "Winston has thrown 5 INTs this game. He is always turning the ball over!" When he's on... He's ON.. When he's off...he's OFF I'm a huge Titans fan and feel bad for Marcus. Marcus has a VERY HIGH ceiling. When healthy, He's shown he could be a great QB! One of the problems is that he's been hurt every year and came to a franchise that didn't care about winning. Only money. In 2016 he threw for 26 TDs and 9 INTs and was invited to the Pro Bowl before he broke his leg, All while throwing to WRs who aren't even in the league Anymore. They were fired by the new GM & Owner, yet none of the WRs played more than a year before they got cut and never picked back up again. It's now 2019 and Ryan Tannehill is starting over Marcus. Marcus took the Titans to the wild card playoff game and came back in the 4th quarter, after being 3 scores down, & won the playoff game in spite of the Horrible 1970s, "Smash Mouth" offenseive scheme. He hasn't had an offensive scheme that fits him and maximizes his greatest abilities. They've all been trash...He has had one of the worse Olines, except in 2016, & is constantly getting sacked or having to hurry and throw the ball because hes about to be sacked. He finally got some great WRs in 2019-2020 but Oline & OC still trash. I hate to see him leave TN next year but it's the best for him. I hope he goes somewhere that can run a spread offense, with an Oline that will let him stand in the pocket until a WR gets open. He does have a couple flaws but can easily be fixed with a good Offensive and QB coach... When there's pressure & he moves in the pocket, before he throws, sometimes he won't reset his feet. He will throw off balance or throw and only use his Arm strength, which leads to accuracy being off.. And the other thing is that there has been times where he will try to wait for a WR to get completely open instead of trying to throw the WR open. He's shown that he excels with uptempo, 4 or 5 WRs lined up and the Oline is atleast decent in pass blocking.. If there isn't a window to throw, A pass rusher got free, or he sees a pocket to run, He will use his legs and make huge plays. He's always money during a no huddle - up tempo and him calling the plays at the line. Even with those couple flaws, He has some things that you can't teach and is very important for a franchise QB... 1. He has the best attitude in sports! 2. He's nothing but a team player! 3. He's a winner! He will do whatever it takes to help his team win.. wether it's Throwing TDs, Running, Flipping over players, Catching and throwing his body in front of big ass LBs, so he can make the block for his team mate to get the 1st down or a TD! He will succeed somewhere.. The Titans have a loaded roster (Other than interior Oline), a very good GM, A great owner who will spare no expense so TN can win championships... They are still trying to find the right coaching. 2nd year HC who is still learning, a bad Oline coach and a 1st year OC who has never called plays before. So unfortunately, I think it's best both parties move on. Marcus should go pick any team he wants, that best fits him so he can live up to his hype and Win... And the Titans keep Tannehill, draft a Great QB that fits the system or trade for one while the coaching gets more experience.
This I why ESPN doesn't know shit about sports... Mariota proved he is very accurate at the combine. Science isn't always the greatest. I've seen this kid since he was a sophomore aka RD Shirt Freshman and he's incredible. Best player I've ever seen
+Mkxhh Do you see where Manziel is right now? But Winston isn't like Manziel. He's already went to the pro bowl. All I can confidently say is: Winston> Manziel
Francois Leduc mariota is more like Aaron Rogers hybrid with russell Wilson deadly accurate fast super fast release comparing him to jameis isn't even fair because they are nothing alike Winston is more traditional Brett favre mixed with daunte cullpepper
clearly one sided ESPN hating because Mariota didn't accept their invitation, as you can see only winston was shown in their sports lab. An insult to Mariota on comparing him to drunk Johnny gtfo..GFY ESPN
They don't know what there talking about. Jamous Winston should be compared with Jamarcus Russel. And Marcus Mariota should be compared with Colin Capernick. Jamous Winston throws way to many interceptions to be compared to Big Ben, how does one manage to even think about comparing Big Ben to Jamouse Winston? 1st of all, Jamous Winston threw over double the interceptions Big Ben and there's a big difference between NCAA and the NFL. 2nd of all, Big Ben isn't an idiot.
How’d that work out for you Mariota haters? He only threw like 14 picks his entire college career and they choose to show those couple picks instead of the 90+ touchdowns
hahahahah....that is so BOGUS it made me fall of my chair LOL. jameis RAPIST thief crab-leg winston accuracy? aahhahah right, that's why he threw over 28 INTS in 2years while Mariota threw 14 INTS in 3years combine.
If you're watching this and STILL think Winston is the next jamarcus russell, just say you hate him. Just say you absolutely hate him. Winston's accuracy and football IQ is off the charts.
His 66% throw accuracy is so damn good. Shit amazing. What's Mariota have? Oh damn. The same thing. But wait? Doesn't Jameis have 18 interceptions? Shit Marcus only has 4? Whaaat. Hmm. Must be a typo. Mariota obviously has to have 40 interceptions cuz I mean Winstons accuracy is said to be off the charts. Hmm damn it sports reference stat keepers.
i dont compare him to JaMarcus because he's not as big and he's not as slow. Winston's not some statue in the pocket, now he isn't Cam, but he's not a statue. Winston's mobility is a lot like Big Ben which is why that's my comparison. his qb skills are similar to Ben as well. Jameis does need to work on the interceptions and i think he will improve and not throw as many.
only reason winston had more picks is cuz he throws it in tight coverage and gambles mariota and hi bubble screens mariota never gambles if winston was like that his picks would drop drastically winston is still better
firstly, a career like Dalton isn't that bad....i hope my favorite team's QB at least passes like Dalton and Mariota sure won't run like Dalton, he's faster....i think Mariota is very smart...that's not an issue, the issue with Mariota is the offense he played in...i think in time, he will be fine....i know why they compared him to Manziel, but i dont agree. he reminds me more of Kaepernick or a bigger Griffin and yes, i do think those 2 QBs will get better too, though i dont know about their teams. as for Manziel, he doesnt have great speed, that was a bit overrated which is one reason i dont like the Manziel comparison.
Lol.. They were nothing alike. Mariota is levels ahead of Manziel. Besides this isn't even about Manziel. This is about Winston and Mariota, and after week 1 I think it's safe to say Mariota made Winston look like a joke. It's only game one though. So, I guess only time will tell.
Ok guys really we won't which of these is better I ill they get taken out of crapy teams one thing tho Jameis made it to the probowl mariota didn't but that's due to an engry
Jameis Winston will be one of the best QB's in the NFL in a few years.. Mariota, however is just a glorified WR.. He is more like Terrell Pryor than Manziel.
spaceman pimpin here ya go since you probably dont. Jameis winston threw for 3900 yards and 66 percent pass completion. He also threw 25 TD passes, but a lofty 18 interceptions. Marcus threw 4500 yards with a completion percentage of 66 as well, but he also went and threw for 42 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions. Soo ya. Winston is obviously GOAT.
Oh and Marcus also had 770 yards on the ground adding another 15 touchdowns to the list. And Jameis ran for 65 yards and only 3 scores. Granted he isn't a runner. That's just more points and stats for marcus to take advantage of in the NFL. Winston on the other hand will sit back in the pocket and let his poor awareness force passes and cause interceptions.
