I definitely enjoyed watching you and listening to your explanation. Very interesting way too get it done. And yes I will be using your process. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video/work. I am forever grateful. Shoot straight!!!
recoil pad ever. So I'm searching for a leather covered recoil pad maker here in Germany. I found him, a tiny company of gunstock-makers in Thuringia nearby Suhl. But at first I will try it for self. Thanks you so much!
I really like when you say " I wonder if somebody like this video... well I was mesmerized by it all ! Before becoming a aeronautic inspecter, I was a military aeronautic assembler and you made me realize haw much I miss working with my hand... ! Thanks so much for that demonstration !!
Thank you so much. I've been slaving over a leather covered recoil pad and the magic sauce was the armpit leather. I tried skiving it super thin, sanding, soaking in water, alcohol, leather conditioner, ect. but flipping the hide over and cutting the blank from the other side of the skin where the arm was got me a wrinkle free pad with almost no effort. Rich, you are this armorers personal hero.
Rich, You will NEVER have to worry about me bypassing you for "do it yourself" leather work or gun smithing. This has been by far your BEST video. Never heard of Skyving before and found the process very interesting. Jona's commentary during filming.............................Priceless!! Great job.
Definitely interesting. Great to see a craftsman at work. I always wondered how the leather on my soft comb was stretched to conform to the shape of the comb.
I really enjoyed watching a master work. And my friend you are a master. I stumbled onto your video cause I was installing a recoil pad on my browning shotgun. This is way over my head. But very interested. Thanks for sharing. 😊
I just found your channel. I've been familiar with your work for years. About 25 years ago I attempted to do a leather covered pad for one of my guns. "ATTEMPTED"... Thanks for sharing and I look forward to more videos!
Rich, this is a perfect art I've ever seen. Many many thanks for. I own a old Merkel Side by Side Shotgun with changable sidelocks and English style gunstock. Fine engravings, fine checkering, but the former owner hast used the ugliest
Really a nice touch, looks Great but for me I prefer the cheaper rubber pad for shooting. I would use the money saved on more ammo since the price is going out of sight. I used to reload my own shells until shotshell parts became pricey and hard to get. Thanks for the Vid!
Nice to see a master at his craft and Thank you for taking the time to show us your art. What would having that custom pad cost to have you do that Rich ??
Buona sera mi potete dire quanto costano i vostri sovrapposti vanno bene per il tiro al piattello si trovano in armeria in Italia se potete rispondermi in italiano grazie mille buona sera
Nice work, to say the very least. I've watched you and Larry Potterfield perform this task and have determined it's not worth the trouble. You see, the Louis Vuitton shoes look so brilliant because they possess no plugs. The plugs disgrace the whole laborious process. I mean come on, you used fine Nigerian goat skin that you yourself skived. Is there no way to secure a cover that fits snugly over a ghost piece between the stock and the leather pad obviating the need for plugs? I know, I know, that's NOT how British gunsmiths did it. Guess what? Maybe you're smarter and a better craftsman? "That's not what people want." Make it...They'll want it. Just remember, you have heard it here first.
