I've been kinda dreading rebuilding the carb on my 2000 XL1200C. Man, you are a true legend. Simple video, easy to follow, no nonsense, no corners cut and very informative. Very much appreciated!
Imagine having a 97 sporty with a busted choke cable and carb that desperately needs rebuilding because of a bad diaphram....and then stumbling upon this video. Thank you sir!
Hey, I'm glad you mentioned about using gloves. We all take that lightly, and regularly immerse our hands in various solvents. A lot of people don't understand that your skin absorbs all that crap and your liver and kidneys are exposed to it. Literally this morning, I talked with an old co-worker, and he mentioned the several older guys that retired early due to various cancers. We all gotta' die of something, but if by simply using things like gloves, a mask, etc., can expose you to a lot less of this hazardous material, don't be lazy when you're younger. Just consider it. Take it from an old fart.
This was a great video for getting in and getting it done. The tip of using the automatic punch for the float pin -> GOLD. I bought one, filed it down, and it worked like a champ.
Dam bro you are amazing 😲I’m gonna take my carb out next weekend . 03 sportster 883 you inspired me to do it myself I ordered the kit from Amazon I’m gonna do it just as you have thanks . You know your stuff I hope I don’t fuck it up lol 😂 I’m gonna watch your video about 10 time lol thank s
Absolutely love this video! Just only thing I wouldn’t recommend is getting the carb cleaner next to the neck of rubber holdings. They eat that shit like termites on wood overtime! Great video man, hope you’re still doing your thing
i was shocked to find out the carb itself isnt bolted in place. its just wedged in place by the air filter (which is bolted in place). just amazes me they would design it like that
@@philiplippens2690 your carburetor is flooding ...you have to take it apart and find out what's going on.... might be just dirty or you need a new float needle... follow the video you should be able to fix it... thank you for watching and please subscribe it will help me out
Thanks for the video. I had no idea about checking the acceleration pump...and it ended up being one of my issues. One thing to pass along...the float should be set at around 18°-20° before it moves from resting position on the needle 👍 safe rides 🤙 Also...***new subscriber***
Better than the video I just watched. Going to have to do it myself, as the HD sports center in Duluth MN will not work on my 93 sportster. Could remove the carb myself, take it to another place.
Great video, I just bought an older 1200 and I'm sure it needs the carb rebuilt. This was very informative, I appreciate your detail in rebuilding yours. This will help a lot
Blessings to ya Brother, VERY NICE JOB, I TAKE MY HAT OFF TO YA, JUST ONE SMALL THING ,MY ACCELERATOR PASSAGES WAY SEEM CLOGGED, HOW DO I CLEAN IT , DOES THE ACCELERATOR NOZZLE COME OFF, IT IS BRASS AND FLOAT BOWL COVER IS ALUMINUM, THANK-YOU AND RIDE SAFE !!
Awesome video I picked up a 91 1200 sportster and gas comes right out of carburetor while the bike is running. I have had bike for 2 years and bike ran great. Bike just started leaking gas. Do you have any idea why this would happen. Thank you for any help with this problem.
If when i choke my bike and it makes a chug should and spits air and kills engine do i need a carb rebuild and when i turn throddle the side dont move up im new to rideing and got a 2000 harley sportster 883
So I just purchased a CVP premium tuner kit, also replaced the accelerator pump. I installed everything, however I think I have a small spring leftover about the size of the one that goes on the air/fuel mixture screw but a little smaller. Can you tell me what all gets springs? I put everything back together and the carb doesn't seem to be getting any fuel. It wasn't having any issues before. I put everything back together, turned the fuel back on and tried to start the bike. When i rolled the throttle nothing was coming out of the accelerator pump needle and after taking it back apart there was no fuel in the float bowl. Possible issues?
Hi. My brother in law has a first year Heritage fuel injection bike but it has sit for 10 years. Do you have a video on how to clean the fuel injection system.
Hi Kenneth, the only reason I can think of on this carburetor to flood the engine instead of coming out from the overflow down on the ground is that the overflow is clogged up...regardless if it's flooding you need to replace the float needle and make sure your seat ( the hole where the needle is sitting) is perfectly clean and not causing the needle to stick in place .etc.. You need to figure out why it is flooding and that's all there is to your problem...choke have nothing to do with this...make sure you not using any sharp tools to clean the "hole" up...carburetor cleaner spray and other solvents is the best way...if you scratch it where the needle seals the fuel it's fucked! Thanks for your interest in my video and please subscribe to help me out
I've been watching your video about theSportster carburetor (Keihin CV 40 seems to me) rebuild complete guide . I've learned a lot from it. I disassembled my 1999 fatboy (Evo engine) carburetor many months ago, including the butterfly shaft, but didn't take pictures of it. Is there any way to find the Keihin CV 40 butterfly shaft assembly diagram that shows the washers and dust covers order? I've been searching my two repair manuals and spent the whole day on the internet with no luck. Thanks a lot for your help
Hey I have 1995 1200 sportster and the spray nozzle isn't spraying gas in the carb therefore making my bike run way lean..and the slide diaphragm isn't sliding like it should, would I need to rebuild it?
Hm, it's better to replace all the rubber membranes together at once, but where it's possible to find to by the main jet needl drive membrane, with drossel assembled at last?
Hi Maxim, it is very easy to replace the top diaphragm (membrane), You can just pull it out of the plastic slide and after lubing the new one install it back in. I have looked up for you link on ebay for the whole kit. Hope this will help you and good luck with your carb rebuild job. @@DoityourselfMotorcyclerepairs HI, thank you for the concern, now I'm trying to overcome the problem with fire rejekts at 1/4 of the trottle, all the carb parts seems at norm condition, may be only adjustments needed, good luck to you!
I'm trying to find a video confirming the accelerator pump. With out a check ball I see no way it can work. I know for a fact my carb doesn't have one and at the moment gas just spits up back into the bowl rather then coming out the nozzle. I've seen a video where there was a lot more going on with more holes and a check ball on a cv 40 accelerator pump, so I baffled at the moment. Clearly there was more than one design, and if there was never a check ball in the design your carb and mine have, how could it ever really work. Why would they put most of the accelerator pump parts on a carb and not have it function. In my opinion the engine vacuum is on the wrong side of the throttle blade to assist the gas from just getting pushed back from where it came from, rather than the smaller hole in the nozzle. A huge majority of motor cycles never had accelerator pumps on this type of carb and ran fine.
Fist of all he jumps around.doesntshow which side the float is supposed gothen tells u it supposed to be level when Harley says the carb is supposed to bev15 to 20 deg and float hangs plumb.doesnt show how to change diaphragm on the carb..he starts it up on choke for 30 seconds and says it's good what horse shit.
