I’m not sure how so many people think he got a free pack of gum. I included the money swap graphics on the left side of the screen to make it extremely easy to understand. He paid for the gum... then gave me 2 $20 bills, 1 $5 bill & 5 $1 bills to get his $50 bill back.
It also has something to do with living in the metropolitan equivilant of a cesspool. You can't surround yourself with shit and then be surprised when shitty things happen to you...
Many years ago, I cashiered at a gas station. We had a shift manager that was an excellent quick change artist. He had us all trained well to stop them in their tracks. I had the pleasure of watching him at work one day when someone tried to pull it on him. He managed to turn the tables on the con man and we watched in astonishment as he grained ground. When the con man finally left, my manager just held up a $20 and said, "Pizza on him." Best pizza ever!
Now that I've watched this I realize this is what happened to me when I was like 16 working at Dunkin Donuts. I always knew something was sketchy about that day
It happend to me when I worked at a gas station that's exactly what they did during rush hour waited till I had a line of 10 people and got me for 100 when I was 19
I dealt with a guy who was really good once. It started with just a $20 and he masterfully distracted and confused me for way too long, changing his mind about what bills he wanted, etc. By the end of it there was around $80 on the counter and the only thing that saved me was remembering that he only started with a $20. I called him on it and he bolted. He was scary good.
For a small breakdown of those who didn't directly follow: He gives $50, gets a pack of gum and $48.91. Balance is 0. He throws in 2 more dollars with the $48 and gives it for the 50 dollar bill. Balance is 0. He gives you the other 50 dollars to get a 100 dollar bill. You've now got his 50 dollars and your 50 dollars in your hands. Which means you owe him just $50, not $100 even though you end up with a total of $100 in your hands.
The way he sets the quick change up and presents it like he's about to show a magic trick is hilarious. 😆 He might as well have said "Alright look, I'm about to try and fool you" when he gestured and started his bit.
I got confused by this when I was 15 working at the registers at coles , someone tried to do this to me , I was so confused I called the manager and luckily they knew it wasn’t me screwing up it was the customer trying to rob us
An old women tried doing this to me and she thought I was just a young and vulnerable individual working at a grocery store . Luckily her skills weren’t up to par and I did everything right
Thatz called the "Flim Flam" In Detroit, I had that pulled on me when only one time when I was about 13 or 14 years old in my family's grocery store. Once it happens to you, you will never forget it.
@@dominicvanniekerk5457 yeah honestly him trying to give the 50 when you had the 50 in change almost confused me and if I was super rushed I might have given him the hundred
When I worked as a gas cashier, whenever they did this shit I would play dumb acting like I didn’t know what was happening, giggling woo hoo and then just switch gears real fast and start screaming at them calling them thieves. Every word they spoke I just yelled “thief” really loud over it. Lol! They would just leave. I enjoyed it. Broke up the monotony of my day.
Its crazy because they do this during times when its peak hour for business, chat with you a long time so you get anxious about how large the line is, etc. Small tactics to just throw you off.
That was one of my favorite parts of the video. Even if you didn't notice up until that point that it was a scam then that phrase should have set off alarm bells.
This happened to me one time😭 after the transaction me and my coworker looked at each other like " wait.. what just happened???" It was embarrassing...
Nowadays I'm looked at like a straight criminal if I try & pay for something with a $100 bill. They be like....."ooh, we dont take those" Like I just printed it at home.🤦🏼♂️
@@scfinisher1355 I say the same thing when someone's trying to pay me with a 100 for anything under a $10 transaction. I know they have a plastic card or mobile payment as an option. Not worth the risk
This happened to me when I was 21yo cashier at my grandpa's liqour store. I only got took for $20 but I never forgot it. Everytime a scumbag tried to pull this shit after that the anger welled up in me.
As a former gas station/convince store cashier. I had this happen way to often. People don't realize how much we pay attention and know... There is way more involved that many will never understand. Good eye and knowledge on the scam.
Its a numbers game for them. Yeah you might be on to them, so were the last 2-3 places they tried it. The next one might not be though. Same reason why they typically target busier places, it increases the chances of you not catching on because you are just trying to keep the line moving.
I think he was more saying that because he was acting innocent because he was being “wrongly accused” so he’s like he wish he knew how because “he’s not”
I tried this, but they spotted it almost immediately: Cashier: "That'll be $1.09" Me: * gives a $20 bill * Cashier: ".... and your change is $18.91" Me: "wut? I gave you a $72 bill!" Cashier: "Leave."
The thing to do is just shut the register once you gave him the change. Don't let them try talk you while you have it open, that's how they get you confused.
2:12 I think the biggest "Wtf" moment of all this, for me, was watching the customer reach over the counter and put his hands near the open-register. I'd lose my shit if anyone did that while I was working the register.
I worked as a cashier at a fast food restaurant. When they start to do the quick change to break the larger bill. I knew what was up. I tell them this ain't a bank and push the register drawer shut. All done right there.
I love the shoplifting videos, but I have to say these ones are more entertaining and far more interesting. I’d love to see more. Either way, all the content is great. Keep it up!
Thanks, I appreciate it. It bothers me that the top comment is “this is the most interesting gas station in the world.” Are people that blind? This happens in any standard 2 week or month stint in most average gas stations and in many places more.
It's not just gas station clerks, though I'm sure they see the most of it, anywhere there's a cashier there's some idiot with a brilliant plan to get free shit.
one simple way ive avoided problems with change is always leaving what the customer gives me in plain sight. i leave the bills they hand me on the counter top until i hand their change to them, so there is never a question what they used to pay.
Once the till closes. That's it. I've told them, tell your story walking to Bank of America. This is a convenience store, not a bank. I cant even imagine what bank clerks go through.
Huh, good point. I've known about this for years, but never thought about banks. I wonder if the real pros ever try that; maybe in the past, probably harder these days with cameras and electronic registers.
That's pretty cool how he replayed everything towards the end without him talking just to show everyone in the same area of work what to look for. That's a sign of a good leader
I had this happen to me when i first started as a cashier about a year ago, I never had any training about it or had even heard of it before. They got me for almost $2000, needless to say i'll never forget about it or let it happen again.
