I use pressure spray guns at work. Sure the clean up is a bit of a hassle (though honestly, I kind of enjoy cleaning my gun). The other big benefit other than the ones you've mentioned is that the gun itself is lighter since the tank is detached, which when you have to paint all day, is much nicer for the ol' arm!

The siphon spray gun can put out more material than shown the tip used in this video is a 1.8 which is a bit small when it comes to siphoning mateiral. As paint gets highly viscous like above a latex consistency you typically have to thin a bit more to get a good amount of material or use a larger tip.

Where the pressure pot really shows it's versatility is that you can tilt the nozzle in any direction whereas the siphon and gravity feed guns limit the nozzle angle. Gravity feed works well until you are spraying upwards and the paint can flow away from the port. Siphon feed works well pointing up but can pose a problem pointing down when the paint level is low. Pressure fed nozzles can be pointed up, down, and sideways. I still thin paint for the pressure pot because straining a thick paint through a mesh can take a long time.

A flexi pipe on the gravity feed system is a hack for spraying overhead, but two hands are required for holding the pot and gun.

You're videos are so good! I've learnt alot quickly about the variety of spray guns, and their pros and cons. There's something I am a bit confused about though. Could you please provide an explanation of what exactly DEFINES an HVLP, say, from a conventional sprayer/LVLP/LVMP. At the moment they're kinda merging into one, and I think a definition of how they work would help explain what makes them different. I realise you touch on it in your videos but you don't really provide a detailed definition of their physical differendes that make them unique? Charles

Clear and concise video. I bought a dual head syphon gun for spraying PU foam (A+B 1:1) the material looks thinner than 'brush on' paint, is it HVLP or LVLP ? Also can't decide on the size, type of compressor.

@PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo

AFFLICTION08011 hi if you want to use a siphon cup you would have to choose a spray gun air cap that is siphon feed and change the fluid line to a suction cup so yes it is possible but you need a siphon air cap and separate cup to siphon out of

QUESTION; 3:33 do you think if the suction tube in the tank is longer then it needs more pressure to suck the paint up?
@PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo
@PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo 7 лет назад
Hi sorry we didn't see this question typically it shouldn't need much more pressure with a long tube but if the tube is to long it can become blocked because its touching the bottom of the pressure pot
@danwingo7512

I'm sorry but you're wrong about siphon fed guns. I used a Binks #7 for years and it sprayed as well, if not better than any gravity fed gun I used. I'll take a HVLP siphon fed gun anytime over a a gravity fed one. As a matter of fact the last gun I purchased was a Devilbiss Finishline Siphon fed and it is fantastic.
@PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo

Hi Dan conventional siphon do spray like a gravity the 7 would be conventional the flg siphon setup is a conventional cap to the flg has both hvlp and conventional caps. Hvlp itself tends to not make great siphon but can be done

What would be considered "Airless"?
@PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo
@PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo 6 лет назад
Airless uses high pressure against a tip to break material up and is what is most commonly used by residential and commercial contractors for painting . In general air spray guns give a finer finish than airless spray guns
@bodeine454
@bodeine454 6 лет назад
Pittsburgh Spray Equipment Co Let me see if I understand this somewhat. I have a 5 HP 20 gal Craftsman air compressor and I can't remember the CFM rating but I'm sure it's not very high. My understanding is that you need a decent size 2 stage compressor to use a HVLP spray gun effectively. At least if your painting larger things like cars etc. I don't paint things that large, I would only be doing things around the house like a go kart frame, mini bike frame and a long locker room style metal bench for now anyway. Would a siphon feed spray gun be more suitable for my needs or will an HVLP gun work? What about just a gravity feed gun that's not HVLP? I'm a little confused about what would better suit my air compressor for now.....A bigger compressor maybe down the road but not in the budget right now and also don't really have the room for a bigger compressor at the moment.....
@PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo
@PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo 6 лет назад
Jeff Stone you will be able to spray for a short amount of time most gravity guns are hvlp conventional will suit you better for a small compressor a siphon feed is limited with thick materials if a pressure pot is available it would give you more versatility
@bodeine454
@bodeine454 6 лет назад
Pittsburgh Spray Equipment Co Thanks for the info, I've recently learned about LVLP spray guns and am considering those, they also sound like they would be more compatible with a smaller compressor....
@PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo
@PittsburghSprayEquipmentCo 6 лет назад
Yes LVMP spray guns will use about 11 - 15 CFM and tend to break paint up a bit more effectively
