Rustoleum 2X has saved my junk numerous times. We have an outlet store Ollie's who sometimes gets cases of it and sells at a reduced price. I stock up. Ocean Mist is one of my favorites. You are so kind to feature my gold table. Thanks for the shout-out.
@@JunkinwithStacy When we remodeled our kitchen, I designed a section of floor to ceiling cabinets for my paint and tools. When people walk in, they want to know why we have such a huge pantry. Just how much food can two people eat? I open the doors to my wall of paint.
Been visiting numerous videos to get a clue . . . Way back in the day was an old man in Texas that would use his router to make really nifty schtuff. He has long since passed. Saw once in his workshop a toilet tank cover . . . Yep a wood grain to match the stained woodgrain tolit seat. Oh, how I wanted one 💕 You have now started me on a mission toward that journey of over 40 years ago. And yes, I will also put an alabaster and brass flush handle for just the right touch to finish Saving you so I can post to you photos of the project 😅
You are so welcome! That Angel has been outside in the 20 below weather for 2 years or however long this video has been up and it’s just now showing wear. Your cookie jar should be great.
Thanks SO much for your video, Thought I'd be having to sand and sand a glazed ceramic pot before painting. Went to Walmart and got the 2X. So I'm now ready to go.
I think you will never be sorry you prepped a surface. The owl that was sprayed in this video already had a rough texture so it wouldn’t need sanding. A high gloss finish can be sanded to give the surface scratches for the paint to grab onto.
Is it possible to paint over a finished pot? I have a old ceramic pot that I want to change the paint on it. But I know nothing about painting. And I was wondering if it would even be possible to do it.
Yes it’s possible. The process is the same. The paint won’t last forever if you’re scrubbing the pot but if it’s a flowerpot that’s just decorative you can paint it.
I took a ceramics class and my glazing was terrible😪 so I’m happy to see that I can just spray paint over my bowls and mugs. I know this video is 3 years old but could you do a video using textured spray paint on ceramic🤔
Well as long as you’re not drinking from the cups or eating from the bowls. I don’t think 2X is food safe. You could use a dishwasher safe mod Podge so you can still use them. It’s winter now but in the spring I could give texture paint a whirl.
@@JunkinwithStacy I definitely don’t trust my skills to eat or drink out of these even with regular glaze on😂 my plan was to just use these as decoration.
I ended up watching your video trying to google trying to figure out what paint I can use to and paint the flowers that’s on my tea pot. It’s all ceramic but I wanted the tea pot one color and flowers a different color. Love your video..Other then the 2X spray paint that u use I use on a lot of things and it’s good paint. It’s a hard paint to find where I live. I just finished the mini mason jar lights 10 count to hang out on my porch. They came out so good!!! Once the 2X rust oleum spray dried I scuffed them up with a low grid sand paper. Love doing DIY projects. Thank you for sharing your video. Have a good day! 😊
@@JunkinwithStacy Thank you! 😊 and yes it is. I think it’s because all the factory’s are running slow and just heard a lot of the stores lost truckers. So it’s not coming in like it should.
You know I was at Menards to get lights and there was no spray paint. I thought they must be changing the display. Now that you said this it all makes sense. I guess it’s a good thing I hoard paint 😂
@@JunkinwithStacy OMG 😳 so I guess spray paint is out everywhere.🤔I thought just here in Oregon they where out. Well your smart to stack it up. I said spray paint is like toilet paper 🧻 couldn’t fine it anywhere in 2020..now 2021 is no paint lol. If you need a color u don’t have always keep in mind to ask the people at the store if they have any in the back because they only put out so much. 😉
Love this video, thank you!......so one question.....do you NOT need to add a clear top coat then? Or maybe it would depend what you're painting?.....I'm looking into painting some ceramic bull skulls & thinking these types of paint as a base & a top coat might work vs. glaze & firing. The pieces I'm looking at are pre-fired once already. Thank for any advice!
2x is a primer, color and it’s sealed so you don’t need a topcoat. If you want extra protection you can it won’t hurt (although some clear coat can yellow really bad). You don’t need the extra step. Mine has been outside in 40 below and over 100 it took 2 years to flake. If I had taken it inside in the winter it would have lasted longer. Inside it would still be perfect.
Oh no! It could be a number of things. If there was any oils on it that could cause it. It could be the brand of paint. I would suspect oils though. Do you know if it was clean with a waxy polish?
How do I go about repainting a ceramic Christmas tree, it has icky yellowed white paint and icky yellowed glitter. Not sure that to do first. Thanks Tammy
Hi Tammy are you set on spray paint? I would take the top off and run it under water. Clean it as good as you can. Try to scrub the glitter away but it doesn’t have to be completely gone. Let it dry. If you want to spray it you can with 2x. Acrylic paint will work too but you will want to scuff it and put gesso on it first. Once it’s dry tack the glitter. I have a glitter like a pro post on the website to help with that www.peonylanedesigns.com/glitter-like-a-pro/ Email me from the website if you run into a snag!
No wax is needed. I left this angel sit outside for the past 2 years. We’ve had 20-40 below zero weather and summer storms. This summer it finally started to chip. If I had taken it inside for the winter months it would have lasted a lot longer but I wanted to find out how long it would hold up in the elements. So if you take care of your outdoor project better that I did and take it in during winter you will get a lot longer wear than mine got.
Hello, so do I understand correctly that with this paint, if my ceramic pots have a shiny glaze on them, I don't actually have to sand them, I can just spray them over with this 2 in 1? 🤗 How exciting if it's true!
My Angel stay nice until this spring. So 2 years sitting outside in extreme heat in the summer and 20 below winters. It just finally had a piece flake off. I think if I had brought the Angel in during the winter it would have kept longer.
Oh yep. I was selling them for $6 but they’re up to 8 because the owls are getting more expensive. The only one that didn’t sell is a white one. Blue and black sold right away.
I want to upcycle a glossy ceramic lamp. I tried Kilz primer on the lamp which looked ok, but I was able to peel off sections like a label. Do you think the rust-oleum would do the trick, or go with sanding? I tried to sand off some sections with no luck. Thanks!
Hi Bill The Angel has been outside in the heat and cold for a few years and the paint doesn’t peel off. You will have to get the paint that’s peeling off. Make sure the lamps is cleaned and degreased before painting. The phrase squeaky clean is what you want. Once you have it clean it should work as well as what you saw on the Angel.
Was the pot previously painted or are we talking about the original glaze? If it was painted by someone after market make sure any loose paint. 2 X has primer built in. For a factory finish the process is the same as this video. If you’re worried it won’t stick take some sandpaper and scuff the surface.
I want to try my hand at this . I ordered a “ready to decorate “ Christmas tree form. Do I just prime and paint and I should I do the X2 you talk about ? Thanks so much
Hi Debbie! The 2x has primer in it so it’s all you need. It’s difficult to get at the moment because of the resin shortage (so I was told) but if you can get your hands on it it will work.
Hi this video is helpful, thanks. I spray painted an acrylic mug with a black basecoat and color shift spray. How do I get the smell of the black basecoat and color shift spray from the mug? I've had it drying in the garage with door open for a few days. Thanks
It will off gas (emit a smell) until it’s cured. It will take about a week. Sometimes longer. Good news is when the smell is gone the paint is well and truly cured and not just dry.
Thanks for the video - I bought your recommended paint and it looks great in MOST places. I have a few bad spots where maybe I rushed or put too much paint and I have a drip here and there I want to remove and fix that. Can you suggest the best way to do that! thanks for the video!!!!
You can sand down a drip until the area is smooth again and then put a light coat over it to bled it in. Or if the drip can be flaked off (like a big dollop of paint) flake it away and smooth the spot with sandpaper and then put light coats over it until the color is built up. Light layers of paint T the key to blending it in.
Hi! You mentioned a new Rust-Oleum spray paint for outdoor fabric, but I cannot for the life of me find it. Would love a link to the product if anyone has ben able to locate this new spray paint!
Yep it Outdoor Fabric Paint www.rustoleum.com/SprayPaint/products/outdoor-fabric-paint/ I got mine at Menards but I’m sure they have a locator on their website
I’m thinking of starting a online business with all my junkin adventures as like you do but my daughter says that I shouldn’t waste my time or money because ppl don’t buy junk like they used to nobody collects junk anymore the 50 year olds and younger don’t collect anything they’re simplistic so if nobody’s buying it then who are all the people on Etsy EBay Facebook and Mercari selling all their treasures to??? I’m tossed please help!!
🤣 your daughter is just straight up wrong. What people buy from the past might shift but there is always a market. She may have heard that farmhouse is dead and I heard that too but it doesn’t stop people from buying it. Lately I’ve seen a shift for the younger generation to want MCM and (this is gonna hurt) stuff from the 80’s. Depending on where you are what’s popular might change but the market is there.
😂 that is the corner of an old billboard flex face on the wall. If you see a billboard you like (non-digital) as the company if you can have it when they take it down. They can reuse them and you can build a frame for the part you like. The rest makes a monster slip and slide.
