Spraying a Staircase - using Airless 

Hi ya, i can't understand why you've not kept it... it's good to have the options. If you protect surrounding you can use airless... but you'll say the same.... fan size of the HVLP does help loads.

I've the same against the walls and at the back of the camera stand. For the few pounds price they've very handy to have.

Dust Sheets or you could you tye carpet protector sticky plastic roll.

all good, also look at everal aqua 40. spray tip.. I finished these off with a 206FF tip... thinned a little bit more, slightly altered the pressure.. but sprayed great. have a fiddle and let me know how it goes.

this house was lived in.... I've literally just finished touch up today.. job done!! Doors, with airless..or hvlp... you can pin a dust sheet on the other side of the door frame/room you're not working in.. tape off the door side you don't want paint on.. low tac tape and drop plastoc sheet on a roll will protect it. Then tape off the edges and sides with tap and brown paper. Don't over think it... you're spraying at lower pressure than doing a ceiling and will have a smaller tip... you'll be in control. It's not as hard as you think it is.

Hi, I didn't want to mention any names ;) I've a mix of tips and guns and guards. a tip and guard can go on any gun, so use what you have thats best.

Pressure plays a key. But as the width of the fan is bigger than the surface you spray, that's why you'll have more spray in the air than normal on staircase spraying. Remember, spray tip size and paint viscosity also needs to be taken into account.

@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator definitely, I saw painthq using a 106 on spindals.... That seems very small but could help with over spray I guess. I did use a shield too on spindals but still seemed to be alot in the air... Doing doors with a 310 wouldn't have helped I guess. Pumping it out.

@@t.dizzle83 I've a 108 and it puts a lot of paint out in a 2" fan. Whereas a 208 has the waste of paint but less dumping of paint as it's doing 4" width. Trial and Error a bit with it.

Oh no... That's a good one to have by you. Keep it. It's a 2" fan... .10 is a good size also... You'll need a fine gun filter as well.. have you got that? You'll use it on skirting and door frames... Windows as well. Try it on the spindles too. I was using thinner paint ... 123plus doesn't need thinning... The Everal Aqua 40 I found was warmed by the room temperature we'd had, so seemed like it had been thinned. And you can find .10 may give tails unless you 1. Turn up the pressure a bit more... Not really an issue. 2. Drop a tip size .. like using .08 instead.

I have a 100 mesh gun filter (which I use for everything up to a 15 thou) I'd go for a 60 mesh for 17 thou and above (which is very rare).

I know it's almost certainly down to how I did it, but I got a lot of overspray dust. I am going to try again doing some entire rooms though, getting to old for brush and roller now.. Thanks..

you can, or do a few coats with the sprayer. work out whats best really

@@marsdencarl89 no issues using LG intelligent eggshell. It's like spraying F&B.. lovely. Lightly sand over with mirka gold flex pads. A couple of light coats of 123+ ... Then LG UC and finish with 2 coats of the eggshell. You'll soon spray over it all, so don't worry about the extra light coat of 123+. Price for brushing it. It'll look great.

What's flugger? I used zinnser 123+ Which is different to 123. Have you tried a coat of BIN?

The best primer for Oak.. is aluminium leafing primer... That stops any staining.

@@leadbetter74 at that money.. i'd say save and wait a bit longer, as you'll wish you had.... look at about £1k.... you'd make that money back in no time... either buying a decent HVLP or airless.

Keeping the over spray down so it isn’t everywhere in the air I find a problem in occupied houses… maybe an extractor? It can land on anything and everything…any advice appreciated.

I did about 9 doors, stairs all frames and skirts … there was just so much in the air, seemed a lot anyway but there was a lot to spray. Scuff x, about 1400psi… was trying to bring it down.

No problem. But I'd now use Aqua BIN (tye green can)

On the stringing? I did last, nib over, wipe over with damp cloth. All looks good.

@@MrShanenicholls yep. I did spindles first. Then came back to the wall stringing... And came up from the bottom as not to get hose over anything wet.

Nope. I'd like one... But I'd also worry where any extraction dust was going outside lol

I didn't know the front door was open... And the garage door... And they'd knocked a blinkin hole from the hall to make a new door into the kitchen and garage! I couldn't get top coats on till the day after.. but then I was the only one in... All windows shut and a lot more control on the overspray. But if it were perfect conditions... I'd be on TV lol

Hi. Expensive in what way? No not any tips, use the finer finish smaller tips.... That way you won't waste paint... 110, 210.... Get the correct gun filter in too. I found with the 108 it wanted to put too much paint in too smaller area

Good question! lol, No, mainly it's a 40% sheen instead of Helmi 30 being 30%. The everal Aqua has a lovely hard wearing finish too.

A 495 is a 495 basically the same without the phone app electrics etc which seem pretty pointless anyway Tritech all the way with extra cheese
