Hi Eric thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this early season action! Yes indeed - I encourage you to take the plunge one of these trips and plan for a camp-out on the boat. Nothing beats the connection with nature in a secluded Alaskan cove - and if you are lucky you may get a glimpse of the Northern Lights! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

Hello Zac, I have been enjoying your RU-vid videos fishing out of Juneau Alaska I would like to take my grandson fishing on May 15, 2024 please recommend some charter boats that offer combination fishing in that area. Thank you, David Williams.

Hi David many thanks for watching and I'm glad you are enjoying my videos! How cool that you'll be in Juneau this spring! My friend Captain Alan runs a great operation - him and his wife are awesome and they have a very nice boat. adventuresinalaskacharters.com/. There may be some kings showing up by then (catch and release), the halibut fishing will likely be available but a little slow and there should be rockfish available as well. There will likely be plenty of whales around also! Best of luck - tight lines! Captain Zac

The smaller Halibut was really biting and will be a nice catch next year. Overall y'all had a very good outing catching a variety of different seafood. Now this is what I call living the good life

Hi YourNextCast thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this early season action! Yes indeed - reeling up heavy jigs from 100 to 300 feet deep will definitely give your arms a workout! Reeling an 80lb halibut up from that depth gives your lower back a workout! haha. Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

Nice trip- love the action. Tossing 7 ounce jig heads... man, down here I toss max 1 oz jigheads with swin bait. Fishing shoreline/surf, harbor. BTW- I think those flounders would be tasty Awesome being able to park and camp out. Beautiful scenery- couldn't ask for more. Again- great job on the vid.
@CaptainZac

Hey there thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this early season action! We vertically fish these jigs so the strain isn't too bad but if you jig them (especially a 24oz jig) up and down all day it can be a strain. These flounder aren't the same as the east coast flounder which are delicious. Halibut are the PRIZE up here in Alaska! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

Nice video, Zac! I’m jealous that your Hewescraft easily converts to a sleeper. My older one does not…and I’ve not found a good option. Caught 3 Hali’s myself yesterday, but I’m in the same position as you. Still 20 pounds of last year’s hali’s in the freezer, so I’m not keeping the little guys (yet!). Thanks for sharing, always a joy!

Hi Kim thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this early season action! When I was a bit younger I used to camp in a soft-top cover boat - we brought a tarp to close off the back, had a small heater, and slept anywhere a body could fit (on the floor, across the two captain chairs, etc.). I'm not sure if I'd be as adventurous now haha. Congrats on the three halis! Sounds like we are in a similar situation finishing up the last few fillets from last season. Plenty more 2023 halibut to come!!! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

That would be so fun to spend the night on the boat in a calm bay. Outstanding. Also the best place to see a Brown bear, from the boat. 😀Would it be legal to cook some crab for dinner while on the boat? Also are Flounder good to eat? I think I've seen it for sale in the store. Thanks, Captain for taking us along on this fantastic trip!
@CaptainZac
@CaptainZac Год назад
Hi Steve thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this early season adventure! Haha yes indeed - the boat is exactly where you want to be when there is brown bear lurking in the area! Yes - it is legal to cook crab on the boat. That can be an amazing ending to an Alaskan day! The flounder up here aren't very good to eat however the flounder on the east coast are delicious. So you've likely seen the east coast version in stores. The big prize up here of course is HALIBUT!!! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

Great variety of fish and nice crab haul. Seems like all the wildlife are out on show. Cool underwater dolphin. It's so hard sometimes to get nature to cooperate. 😂 Does Mary sell her photography? That looks like some serious camera hardware. 👍

It’s great to see the fishing pick up! What’s the prediction for the year for the fishery! We will be back up there next year in August! Can’t wait we haven’t been up there for a couple of years now!

Hey Steven thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this early season action! Haha that's the million dollar question! Around Juneau we should have a better silver run this year than last and I'm encouraged that the halis are staring to show up which hopefully is a sign of great things to come! I'm sure you are counting down the days until your August trip! Thanks again and tight lines! Captain Zac

Those small chicken nugget halibut you put back Are they legal to keep if you needed the meat???
@CaptainZac
@CaptainZac Год назад
Hi Jimmie thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this halibut action! Yes indeed - the regulations in Southeast Alaska (sport fishing - not guided) is 2 halibut per person per day, any size. I still have a few fillets in my freezer from last fall and I expect to be filling my freezer in the next few months with tons of halibut. The little ones taste great and I certainly don't judge anyone for keeping them. I just prefer slightly thicker fillets and I've seen just how many small ones it takes to equal one nice one, say 40 or 60lbs. If I didn't have halibut in my freezer, I probably would have kept a few of these since I love seafood. Thanks again and tight lines! Captain Zac

Hey @markleonard-pe3os thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this! Mary will try seafood every once in a while but she typically doesn't enjoy it and prefers other options. Tight lines! Captain Zac

Years ago I was in Hawaii and the locals called me Hali, I never knew what that meant until now. Should I have been offended? Does that mean they wanted to fillet me? So many questions, so little time.

Haha this is awesome! Maybe you should schedule a fishing trip up here to Alaska and run the Hali mystery to ground! Thanks for watching and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac

Brother why don’t you get Mary an electric reel. Tell her I apologize if that is an insult. Is there a size limit on halibut
@CaptainZac
@CaptainZac Год назад
Hey David thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this early season action! Haha funny you say that - I'm the one who wants to get electric reels and Mary is a real trooper with a normal reel on those deep drops! Electric reels open up some very deep halibut spots and also black cod (sablefish) which can be 1200+ feet deep! For sport fishing (not guided) in Southeast Alaska, the daily limit is two halibut per person per day any size - no size limit. There is a size limit for charter fishing - a reverse slot restriction. Thanks again and tight lines! Captain Zac
