In today's video I'm sharing the top spring fashion trends of 2023 that I won't be buying. When I'm looking to sprinkle a trend into my wardrobe, I like to make sure it's something that feels timeless for me. That way, I'm happy to wear the trend for months and even years after it's gone "out of style".
What are you buying vs. not buying this season?

I am a knitter (and sometimes crocheter) and it is NOT a cheaper alternative to shopping. But it is definitely slow fashion and a great hobby, I love making my own sweaters. Though there are folks who thrift old sweaters and the like and unravel them to reuse the yarn, which, while time-consuming, is certainly cheaper.
@ros8986
@ros8986 Год назад
yarn is very pricey. for chunky embroidery I would unravel and then wrap around a board, steam iron to take out the kinks.
@33Jenesis
@33Jenesis Год назад
Agreed. Good quality yarn is expensive and hard to source depending on where you live. Unraveling old sweater I find that the yarn can be weakened by washing, drying, pulling. I do like using granny squares to make handbags, sweatshirt front decoration, etc..
@estrellacasias

Agreed. Not cheaper at all I only crochet clothes if it's something very specific I want like a patter or design. I mostly do blankets

But crocheting is definitely becoming such a trend. So many people around me have started crocheting this year (I’ve been doing it for a few years now) and it’s strange seeing so many people doing it lol
@albiesspace
@albiesspace Год назад
Mind be a bit cheaper if you compare it to a sweater with the same quality as the yarn. At least where I live. 100% wool sweater with a good quality knit can cost a lot. But the synthetic Primark sweater will be cheaper than the yarn, yes. I have utilised second hand yarn as well, but it's hard to find enough of a kind for a sweater, and they don't always say what it's made of so it can be hard to care for it properly.

I appreciate the neutral tone towards trends. I personally find it too intense when content is either all in on trends or all in on hating the very concept of trends. I like the approach of knowing your own style, understanding what works for you and what doesn’t, and then viewing trends as an offering, as something to intentionally and mindfully consider and selecting what might add value to your wardrobe or your needs and being detached to the rest. I appreciate how you walk through your decision making process with us. Ty 😊

My wardrobe is mostly denim, black, and neutrals, but the one colour I get the most comments on is a lime green linen midi shift dress. it seems to cheer everyone up, including me! It’s not a colour I would normally choose, but now i love it. i love your stance on being true to our own style aesthetic and helping guide us in finding it!

LOVE this video! This is a good reminder to check our closets before shopping. I’m into the loose tailoring of this rendition of minimalism. This is perfect for me as I’ve been wanting to elevate my style beyond sweats yet maintaining the comfort. Also the older I get the less comfortable I am in “fitted” clothes below my waist. I did buy a pair of high waist wide leg pants that I can wear with flats. A lot of this I have in my wardrobe already. Sheer clothes and metallic pants-love it but not feasible for my lifestyle. Motocross and corsages-old enough to remember this 20 years ago, will pass on it.

I am here for all the bright and saturated colours - I find that spring is a good chance to pick good basics or a few brights up to last a long time. I am keeping my leather jacket and I have a maxi skirt I have loved for years that I bust out in the summer and honestly good on you for reminding us to wear what works for us. I already dress minimally so I am sitting the trends out and quite happy to do so.

I am a man, and I am really feeling the denim look at the moment. I think the formula for me is to have a structured third piece (jacket or coat) and a strong statement boot, like Dr Martin. The denim runway looks you showed looked too casual to me. Also, your skin and lipstick look great.

I’ve always preferred silver jewelry and look better in it and it has been sooo frustrating these last few years that hardly any jewelry brands carry silver - or if they did, all the cute styles were in gold. (Looking at you, Ana Luisa & Mejuri👀)

I'm the opposite. I remember back in the 80's I had such beautiful gold jewelry pieces. The 90's grunge movement made it uncool and everyone switched to silver jewelry. I was so sad about it. I grudgingly switched to silver. When gold came back on trend I was so happy. Gold looks so much better on my skin tone and golden brown hair. I'm now old enough to not be a slave to fashion and will continue to wear my gold because it suits me better. ☺️

Extenuating circumstances meant I had to leave most of my clothing behind I am trying to rebuild but with my personal style in mind this channel has helped me to think about what I'm looking at buying and how much I actually need, I currently have approximately 50 pieces excluding outerwear and undergarments and since I layer and some pieces are season specific I have about 1-2 weeks worth at any given time which I was fine with until I was faced with the new work uniform will be having to wear (office) so I am needing to figure out how to gain pieces for that, I'm really hoping for affordable options with some selective quality pieces, but being mid size that's difficult, and taking time so (lots of laundry) I'm glad though to see lots of inspiration for office wear as well as reminders for mindfulness and slow fashion I'm glad that content like this is out there.

An affordable way to experiment with more color, if you’re for specific colors not often found, is to thrift something you like and dye it! I thrifted a stained white cardigan for $1 and bought a bottle of Rit dye for $4 and now it’s a gorgeous kelly green color. Great way to freshen up old clothes or white shirts that get the dreaded yellowed stains on the underarm area.

I relate so much to your way of viewing trend s as well as minimalism hahaha after years of trying and failing being super minimal about everything I’m now finding a balance and I just don’t want to buy stuff anymore, not things I don’t need at least lol. I feel like I’m leaning into a lot of vintage, linen and brown leather stuff,,, kind of cowboy pirate vibes but wearable hahaha. I love neutrals but it is fun for me to see others wearing bright colors hehe… thank u for the video.

I don’t get tiny bags. At best it is like a corsage, decorative. Gigantic bags are not practical either. Shoulder carry a heavy bag for years can wreck pelvic alignment, causing lasting issues (my first hand experience). Now I use bags that are not too big so I can’t carry a lot. Also the strap drop is shallow so I use my hands or elbow for handbags. Doing so seems to stop exacerbating my body alignment issues. When I do need to carry more I use a backpack.

A problem with recreating the trends with what you’ve already have got in your closet is that the silhouettes and cuts have already changed greatly and, for example, my old sheer top looks very bizarre (in a bad way) these days. Not overspending and sticking to a great capsule wardrobe is great, but from time to time you need to add or change pieces that are time and age appropriate. People dive into minimalism a bit too extreme sometimes.
@pathos9864
@pathos9864 Год назад
@@JBUHJBUH we all change. Our bodies change, our age changes, the world around us also changes. There is nothing wrong with upgrading certain items in a wardrobe. For example, my classic blazer I bought 10 years ago doesn’t fit me the way I like it these days, and it’s ok to circulate the things: let the old one go and substitute it with smth that reflects you and your body these days. I also support minimalism (not only in wardrobe) but ppl get sometimes too critical and get stuck with the idea of having certain amount of items. What I’m trying to say is that occasionally, it’s ok to have a “healthy” rotation of items in your wardrobe without choosing either a continuous shopaholism or extreme outdated minimalism.
