This gives me the warm fuzzies and captures what I love about New York. That there is such raw talent and there's a beyond endearing quality about that original cast.
in some ways, that could be a better experience than seeing the show. Of course seeing the show is completely priceless, but seeing the cast interact with each other like a family, as the cast not the characters would be AMAZING.
@cyrodilicbrandy Whats funny is I know that girl with the white mug that gets stared down lol, I was at an open call for this show a few years back and she was there she use to street team for the show and she auditioned multiple times haha she is a SUPER FAN. But i must admit that look she gave her was hilarious!
@KatherineLupin They were on the streets b/c all of the stage hands went on strike, but their union rules stated that they have to show up for at least an hour: hence the reason we get this video :)
Yep, and he was a swing (he understudied all the boys but Melchior)/ensemble member. I'm pretty sure it's him who announces that he'll take Otto's part because Brian wasn't around -- he sang Otto's part in the Bitch of Living videos from the strike, also.
I know this is a 5 year old question, but it was a strike held in 2007 by a group of stagehands working on various Broadway shows. Not all casts from shows affected by the strike did this, the Spring Awakening cast is the only one I know for sure came outside to do performances and had food, coffee etc on nights when their show was off because of the strike.

well kinds depends on where you live because where i live it was not talked about at all and the only way i found ot about it was the internet. I live in michigan though so its not close to new york or anything.
@ErosOfAchilles my issue was the fact that they were implying she was black therefore she was loud... not that they were identifying her because she happens to be the only black person in the group.

If your talking about the lady i think you are. You should watch from 0:25 to 0:35. Its hilarious! It looks like the lady who plays the older woman in the cast comes and stands beside her, then tries to figure out who she is..
Calling that person black seems to just be the easiest way to identify her... Her clothes and hair are similar to the people around her, so it's just the most defining trait. If skin color doesn't matter, then it shouldn't be any more derogatory to point out someone's skin color than if they were pointing out their hair color. It's just one aspect of someone's appearance...
