I really want a “Bang for the Buck” buyers guide! At least for rods and reel but you could make a whole week out of it rods, reels, hard baits, soft baits, apparel etc… I am loving this new buyers guide idea.
Caught a 4.8lber yesterday off a savage gear bluegill just SLOWWW crawling it along the bottom. Pretty good for central IL while the water is still really cold!! Thanks guys for all the tips and tricks!!! Great first fish of the year for me! The ending of this was absolutely fantastic!
Tried throwing an s waver 168 in lite trout even though I didn't think anything in my lake was big enough to eat it. First warm day of the year I caught the biggest bass and biggest pickerel I've gotten from here in the same day, as well as had followers in a size category I didn't know existed here. Thank you guys for the guidance, it's amazing what you can find throwing bigger baits!
I've paired up most of my shimano reels with the st. Croix mojo bassn line. Those rods just feel really comfortable and I've had a lot of success with them. I know they arent really up there in price, but I've come to really really like the mojo bassn line.
(silent stares) "Are we gonna do an outro......." LOL. Thanks for the high quality content and awesome information, men. Always a pleasure listening to y'all. Ice is FINALLY off the water here in Colorado. Time to get after it.
That new Curado 150 MGL is absolutely phenomenal. I have it on my 610 M Expride for jerkbaits and other techniques and it can bomb the Rerange a mile. 👍🏻
I really appreciate the spring buyers guide this year. Some awesome information as always. Chatter bait was also my bait for 2021. Going to devote time to swim jigs this season but will have a chatter with me at all times. I bought the 7’2” medium heavy Expride last year and it’s amazing. I have two NRX rods and I almost like it more. So versatile in that model. I also bought the 71 curado MGL during the Black Friday sale and it’s so money! My jerk bait and square bill reels but could absolutely throw light jigs or small swimbaits. Thanks so much guys! Heading out today for the first open water trip today!
Hi Matt and Tim! These buyers guide you create helped me out a LOT since I started watching your videos (and it’s been a long time)! Something I’ve been wondering for a few months was if you could do a travel rod buyers guide some time in the future?
This is why I never miss a notification! Love the awesome buying guide for tackle, gear, and all the fishing arsenal you need. Breaking it all down helps a ton at eliminating what you need and what you think may work.
Talking about the Curado mgl 1500 it really is something . Other day I just had two rod and pond I was fishing has little bass and little bait and I was casting a fat free fingerling across the pond 🤯🤯
I’ve jumped into the 300 or so price range of rods recently, and man, I’m hooked. Today’s my birthday too, so not a great video for my wallet to be watching. Haha. Thanks matt and tim for all you do for us newbs in the community.
Man I bought my first mid-range reel this year, the Curado DC, been throwing it on my topwater/SB/rkcrawler rod by TFO. It BLASTS on everything else I have. I mean, I go bankfishing sometimes and I can now hit old spots and jack a RK55 to the bank on the other side that is almost 2x my max distance previously. I’ll never go back
I have the Shimano Metanium MGL paired with Shimano/Gloomis Conquest 7 med/hvy . This combo is blessed by the God's. This combo is very very very light and strong as it gets. 💪. It's my go to.
Finally see the X-Bites getting some love. Since y’all like the 845 CBR so much, you would love the Madbull. Another line of rods I’m absolutely blown away by are the new Compile-X Steez AGS.
You guys should do a buyers guide on fishing lines. What lines you like for mainline/leaders for different applications and how you rig up your arsenal of combos with line so you have a combo for every application. For example, do you mainly just have everything rigged with a braid mainline and then tie leaders on as needed? Or do you have some rods setup with flouro mainline for certain applications?
I have a 7'4" Heavy fast Bass X and it is super versatile! I typically use it with heavy braid to mono leader for my walking baits, and 168 wavers. I can cut the leader and go straight braid with a frog and it has the softness for trebles and the backbone to jam a frog hook home.
Some of it is just personal preference. I’ve used a lot of the top dollar rods but in the last few years I don’t use nothing but G-Loomis rods and Shimano Reels.
I ordered the Loomis IMX Pro 966 SWBR from TackleWarehouse. It’s supposed to be back in stock tomorrow. I hope I get that notification that a shipment is on its way!!!
Hey guys, if you are looking for another brand to try, try fenwick. I have fished the world class rods, their highest end rod. They are awesome, super light and extremely sensitive. Very similar to a expride in my opinion. Have fished the 6’8 MH, which is an AWESOME close quarters finesse jig and swimbait rod. And the 7’6 mh, which is great for almost any bait you need to launch out there. Give em a shot you wont be disappointed!
I use a 7'1 Medium fast Legend Tournament Bass for my wacky and neko rigs for smallie fishing. It's definitely a bit tip heavy, but once I hook them, I never lose a fish. The St Croix lazy action really does make a difference.
@@dailjr883 I have the Victory 7'3 Heavy Extra-Fast, and it's more of a fast, but even then the blank loads up deeper in to the blank then a typical extra-fast would. I used to use a Shimano Compre extra-fast for wacky and neko rigs, and maybe the first four or five inches of the tip would deflect. On my victory its at least six or seven inches down the blank that deflects, and when you lean in to a fish, you get a lot of deflection down in to the backbone of the rod. I personally like Croix actions because once I hook a fish, I have so much confidence it's never coming off, but it can make it harder to work baits if you want to hop them fast, or work a jerkbait, etc.
Skeet Reese signature series yellow rods were great, crazy sensitive and stupid light for a steal of a price. Sadly I think they were discontinued and can’t find them anymore!
Omg…. I may have found my new favorite lineup. Purchased the Tour Versatile, and loved it so much, that I picked up the Braillist. Paired them both with Curado 151 DC’s. One HG and one XG. For the style that I fish…I might have just found the only two rods that I will ever need! Thanks again for the recommendation!!!
Y'all really need to try more of the new st croix victory rods, (if you can even get em) it's hard to believe they're only around $200, like the exprides they feel and perform WAY above their price points, it's quite unbelievable. I also think y'all should try some sixgill fishing gear, I think you would be surprised what a small company like that can produce..their quality is awesome but they also have great sales and literally the best customer service and transparency in the industry and I promise you that you will not find one better, anywhere.
I do like your channel very much, have learned a lot ftom it. There are two things I can always count on.. High level of your knowledge is one, second is the word Daiwa never is never bering mentioned 🤣🤣🤣 never heard of Steez, Zillion, Stress-free Veststile, TWS??? What about Shimano Antares? How is that all possible...🤔
20+ years of "being one" with my GLX MBR 842C (w a Curado 51E). G.Loomis, --> "... finesse fisherman's dream ..." 1/4 - 5/8oz, it seems precisely made for weightless 5" Senkos, my 2nd favorite bait ... ... right after topwaters.
Just put in my TW order from my Tax refund! Dobyns Fury 806, and an E13 Defy black 8ft heavy SB rod for soft baits like Hudds, and Real Preys. You want to talk about a fun bait to fish, get a Mega Bass I wing 135! The thing gets crushed and is as much fun as throwing a Slammer! I need a jerkbait rod and was thinking about the Zodiac 6 10 med. I know it's not an expride but I can't really afford one right now. I geek out on you tackle vids Lol!!! Ice is off half our lakes in North Central Massachusetts!!!! Pumped!!
You guys should really start trying more of diawa's stuff. i have been fishing shimano for years but once i picked up some of my higher end daiwas, shimano can't compare. The zillion and steez are just on a different level.
Perfect timing. Dropped my medium rod in water yesterday and it's gone forever. Ordered the Curado 150 mgl but can't find the 6 10 expride. Looks like I'll be in the hunt for a while.
You guys have tested so many different brands and their products that it's insane 😳 so out of pure curiosity, have you guys tested out aftermarket bearings for your casting reels (i.e. Boca or Spool Speed) If you have, what were your thoughts and if you haven't would you be willing to? Maybe for the summer months you have 2 identical setups on the deck of your boat, 1fully stock and the other with a Spool Speed Full Tune Kit. Use them both all summer and then give your opinions at the end?
You guys should open up a tactical bassin used gear store so that people can pick off some of your old gear that you don't use anymore, if you have 27 different brands that you're using from a rod manufacturer there's just no way you can fish all of those consistently, so open up the door and let some of us novices in to get access to your unused or lightly used equipment. :-)
I’m surprised you guys never really talked about the 1st Generation A3 years back. That reel is a beast as much as the Tranx is. I always wanted to ask what’s your favorite swim jig rod these days, and if you have used the Dark Sleeper rod? Love the videos. Thanks guys!!
Yall budget is different! Lol i LOVE the nice stuff but $300 for a spinning reel that “doesn’t really break the bank” come on Tim! Hahahahahaha great video fellas
I recently ask the question, chronarch or bantam if money is no object. You guys replied with bantam. I was so stuck on the weight I searched high and low and ended up with a 2020 metanium that I paid 286 for. This metanium is "the deal" buying JDM isn't for everyone but I got the metanium cheaper than I could have got the chronarch.
I’m sure people have requested this in the past and it would be more work for you. But have you thought of putting a time the item was talked about in the description next to the link of the product? Loved your videos for years, keep doing what you do.
the ending was the best 😆 🤣 😂 like this was super informative but i really enjoy watching these vids alot. Like a ton!!!! I watch old 3 yr old vids no joke. Like summer fishing also from 4yrs ago. I just need a great reel for deep cranking but i cannot make up my mind. Besides the tranx. I want one in the shimano line but which one. Curado? Is it a work horse reel.
Can you guys try out daiwa reels, maybe starting with tatula reels? I think your opinions on these reels would be very interesting to hear. Thank you for the videos they are very helpful!
Interesting to see the rods showcased have cork handles and grips over EVA or other foam grips in their design. Maybe theirs something to my first old school Zebco cork handle from 50 years ago handed down to me from my brother.
For just an all purpose rod would you rather have a G. Loomis GCX Casting Rod 7' Med Hvy 843C MBR , or a shimano expride 7’2 medium heavy ? Didn’t see a 844c mbr in the gcx series . Great video as always .
Good afternoon Guys, I noticed a new rod in the Expride line the 8' XXH have you gotten a chance to review or handle that rod and would you recommend for a swimbait rod? The lure rating is through the roof seems like an ocean rod. What do you think?
Thanks for the quick response. I know you may want to review it on video maybe 6 months to a year from now, but if you have thrown anything what's the heaviest you've tried? I'll stop asking questions and wait for the main review.
My wallet hates you... But I don't! Lol After watching Ned rig videos the past two days I figured it's time to try a new technique. Bought everything I could locally(zman is on sale at sportsman's warehouse and Cabela's right now), then went on tackle warehouse and spent a couple hundred more. Picked up a couple a-rigs too because they were in stock, last time you made a a-rig video they were out of stock for months so I figured I better get it now.😂
Love you guys been watching sence you were out in N Cali Now check out Phenix Rods you will be impressed...I Use those and Dobyns all day long paired with Shimanos.......Fish On
This was an outstanding video. I have deeper dive question. You comment that Expride is great and hard to go wrong with for just about any technique. Would you have a list or the ability to add a list of uses that match an entire line up by manufacture? So, for all set ups/techniques here is the Expride match - Spinnerbait, flip, frog, drop, swim bait etc?
