Who's Watching the Kids? by PBS Montana is a documentary film that exposes the dark side of the "troubled teen" industry in the United States. The film delves into the stories of several families who sent their children to these programs, only to discover that their children were subjected to physical and emotional abuse, neglect, and other forms of mistreatment. The documentary sheds light on the lack of government oversight and regulation of these programs, and advocates for the protection of vulnerable teenagers from the dangers of these institutions. It is a powerful and thought-provoking film that provides insight into the reality of the troubled teen industry and the impact it has on families and young people.

My friend was sent here and it scarred her for life. When she returned from this place, she'd changed so much. Before she was sent there, she was confident and always happy but when she returned from that place, she was anxious, sad and full of self-doubt. That was over 20 years ago and she still has all kinds of issues with her mood and self-esteem. The stories she told me of that place were terrible and it sounded like it was some horrible cross between a cult and a prison camp. If there's truly any justice in this world, the people who created this place have a lot coming to them.

I was there from 2004-2007 i went in at 14 came out at 17. I had only smoked weed once, drank wine coolers and had an attitude problem. Wine coolers, and cigarettes and a bad attitude cost me my entire high school experience i came out with no credits, no support system. And i went down a very dark path way worse than it would have been if i had never gone there. To this day im still not over the psychological damage of that place. I trust no one, have trouble maintaining relationships, and still havent learned how to communicate my feelings effectively in my intimate relationships. This place broke me.

That place was terrible. It did nothing good for me. I saw people trying to kill themselves, people being restrained and hurt by staff, and everyone was totally isolated from the outside world. That place was garbage and I am thankful it is closed. It is a giant money scheme. I hope everybody that ever had to go there has found peace from the psychological abuse.

So the only parents that are grateful for the program are those affiliated with it. Cathy is a “certified performance coach” and Paulette’s daughter was a member of the staff “who began penalizing” (abusing) other kids. These parents are disgusting. Your child becomes too difficult so you ship them off to get abused?! Don’t call yourself a parent.

This is absolutely horrifying. Its torture. Then these kids are expected to assimilate back into society, but it would be extremely hard. It makes me wanna leave my home and save all these kids.... predominately normal teenagers.... 😪

Assimilating back into society was hard for most of us. I spent 19 months at Spring Creek and Tranquility Bay in Jamaica. I still struggle with anxiety and get flash backs to my time there. It’s been almost 20 years and it still affects me. I wish our voices were heard more and that no other kids had to experience what we did at these programs.

Places you mean. There were at least 5 inside the US. And 3 outside the US. I've been to 2 of them. MT (SCL) and Jamaica (TB)
@ISa-jy8ol
@ISa-jy8ol Месяц назад
There are thousands and thousands of these places all over the US and the world. Not all are WWASPS - but there are tons of different “therapeutic boarding schools” marketed for “troubled teens” that have the same issues of abuse.

I went to say bye to Karlye when I left in Aug 2004. At one time I saw a staff member body slam her once because she didn't want to sit down. Cliff was his name. I was assigned to be her family upper level when I was about to turn 18 and took my exit plan, so in the month of July 2004. She was bullied and very suicidal and everyone dismissed her. She was so sweet. That entire place was vial. Once a girl, second cabin top left (forgot the family name) jumped off the balcony. A girl (omitting name) in my family had a seidure and my entire family was so upset because they took a century to get the poor girl medical care.
