Great video! About 3 weeks ago I put down ammonium sulfate at just over 2lbs per 1000. I also put down Humic12 mixed with water soluble sulfate of potash. The grass turned dark green and thickened up quite nicely. Not sure if it was the fertilizer, humic or potash...none had iron in them. I raised my HOC as well to help it thicken up. Next is weed control...ugh.
@@CentipedeCentralLawnCare I also have spots where the centipede thrives, but there will be a 1 or 2 foot section where the runners just won't grow for whatever reason leaving a bald spot.
Do you use Pre-Em for spring? I’ve seen where that can prevent runners tacking down into the soil. If that isn’t the cause focus on improving the soil in these areas so the centipede will be attracted to it
I'm don't want to use complete synthetic fertilizer, but I'm having a hard time creating a plan. Do you have a time line of what you put down and when? I'm thinking about buying some humic acid, but I don't know what fertilizer or winterizer or Preemergent every year.
I typically fertilize in May and July and keep the Nitrogen low (around 1-1.5 lbs N per 1000 for the whole year). If you want more details see my “How to Fertilize Centipede Grass” video. You could also do Humic every 1-2 months to build soil and also Iron and Micronutrients (upcoming video) monthly in the growing season. Another good hybrid fertilizer that works great is the Anugreen. I have a link to it in the description of the “how to fertilize “ video. It’s a 16-0-2 that also has iron and organic matter. Thanks!!
I did mine ! I bought the fertilome centipede and I did Humic acid .. I see brown dead grass underneath the green sprouts though and the soil is very compacted .. should I rake all the brown and re seed ? I de thatched and bagged the thatch but still there is brown and compacted soil , I also used liquid aerator this year
If you can gently rake out the dead stuff without doing any damage then you can do that. The thing about centipede that is tricky is you can’t just blast it with N and get it to fill in like Bermuda. You can try seed or just keep doing right things and be patient with the process, your choice. I’ve never done centipede seed but heard it can be tough and take a while to fill in. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks I will be patient ! I will do another application of humic as well .. thanks for all your stellar work and for replying to my comments .. appreciate it
I am having issues sourcing a 15-0-5 fertilizer locally ( I am trying to follow your recommendation ). Any suggestions on a solution? Lowe’s has a 29-0-5 in stock.
This particular fertilizer I’ve never seen in stores. If you are interested in getting some, click the link in the description of the video and you can buy online, free shipping. Thanks for watching!
Wow, thanks for letting me know! Take a look at my “how to pick the right fertilizer” video and in that description I link to a couple of other fertilizers I recommend for Centipede. They work great. Thanks
Just ran across your channel so I’m going through all your videos! I’m 4 weeks in to a newly sodded centipede lawn in Eastern NC. It’s taking very well so far. Do I need to wait until next season to start using fertilizer and post emergent weed control?
Thanks! If it is establishing well and so young you have the right idea in waiting a while before you apply anything. Especially w/ centipede sod...For now just make sure it’s getting the right amount of water and sun. You could probably do some soil building like with Humic and sea kelp. I will do a vid on kelp this spring/summer.Thanks for watching!
@@CentipedeCentralLawnCare will do! Been a dry few weeks so been using the sprinklers almost daily to get around 3/4” per week since installation day. Roots are really starting to penetrate down nicely into the existing soil so I intend to ween it off the daily watering now and just make sure it gets around an inch per week, preferably all in one or two large doses (trying to encourage it to keep sending the roots down deeper to find water in between waterings). Definitely subbing to your channel! 👍🏻
