Ha! Well, ain't that something. The thought briefly crossed my mind, but because I found it buried, eventually convinced myself it was rock. Thanks for straightening that out.

I had a lot of chips and pieces about the size I brought back, but wound up leaving them or giving them away to other members. That log really was cool, a really pretty orange and white banding. I'll post a better photo in discord.

Yep it's open 24/7, 365. No facilities of any kind.

This is BLM land, and they are generally the most generous federal agency when it comes to mineral collecting and rockhounding. No permit needed here. Their website even has maps on where to dig as well as where it is not allowed on the mountain. Edited to add: the above applies to personal collecting. Material collected here cannot be sold legally unless you had a permit to collect it for commercial purposes. I haven't and don't intend to sell any of my Saddle Mountain material.
