These are the movies that absolutely captivated me! Call me old fashioned, but I loved these well made fun films! So much better than the crapola they try to pass off today as entertainment! Thanks for this one! ❤️
Yes. Thanks for this one. I'm so glad Daddys little girl grew up! She would have ended up old Maid for real. Her Momhad the sense to know what her daughter needed! It's just what she needed love from her husband he forgot about her too often his wife Now finally empty nesters
@peacenow42because many big Hollywood movies today aren't made to tell stories, rather than make a profit over some rehashed and poorly overtold existing product. There are very few "real" movies today that arent made to sell something
I liked this very much. Betty Hutton's face had by then, in her thirties, matured into one of such beauty, and I always enjoy seeing Dana Andrews' acting talent.
This was an easy going movie, no heavy drama, i liked that the character Dana Andrews portrayed loved boats as in real-life Dana Andrews did. Nice to hear Betty Hutton sing in this movie. Thanks for posting this movie!
Loved this. Thank you for posting. I found the dynamics of her family interesting since I was treated similarly by my dad. It made me feel better. Always love Dana Andrews.
I was 10 years old in 1956. Now I’m almost 78 years old and very blessed to be so healthy and know the Lord and have a terrific life! Great little movie!❤
I really enjoyed this film, thanks for posting - Betty Hutton gives a lovely performance, she is very under-rated as an actress in my opinion, nice to see her more subdued in this one. With the right scripts she could have been a truly great actress.
What a dialogue! This is good. Plenty of style, glamour, and class (pun intended). Fred and Maggie are the top of their very one wedding cake. Love it! 🎥💋
Dana Andrew was born Jan 1st 1909. He really was almost 50 here! Betty could maybe pass as 33! Laura La Plante, who played Betty's Mom was born in 1904, just 5 years before Dana Andrews!!! Laura started in silents at the age of 15, this was her last film.
Opening shots with titles: Newport Harbor, Newport Blvd and in the background , as the car turns on to the highway, Pacific Coast Hwy. (aka PCH). All in Newport Beach, CA.
Your comment made me laugh, but I have my parents' high school yearbooks from the 40's and they all did look older. Not decades, but well into their 20s.
People actually looked older. But Betty Hutton in the ww2 clip of Murder He Says, is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen, she’s a doll and her expressions have not been captured since.
Does anyone know a product that gives that amount and those kinds of bubbles nowadays? Even Mr. Bubbles fails 😥 I had begun to think that amount of foamy bubbles had never even really existed and was just the glorified memory from youth.
I can tell you what I was doing in 56 . I was just 15 years old, and in a boarding school,In Madrid Spain. Now I'm a widow ,from a wonderfull Irish man . Live in the Gold Coast ,Australia . Be happy an prosper all. Pilar.💖💖💖
how come, in MANYMANY movies, someone whips up a quick batch of scrambled eggs? Doesn't anyone in Hollywood cook the good stuff? Like tacos, homemade pizza or turtle soup? Manoman someone's always missin out.🐢
Adele, I married for the first time when I was 59. Never saw it coming!! Rick is a terrific guy, and best of all.. neither of us was 'looking'..it just happened. By all means do what pleases you, follow your star and have a great time..but, trust me..life is full of surprises, some of them out of the blue..and..when you LEAST expect them!! Interestingly, it was my ability to enjoy my own company, that (I am convinced,) prepared me for being what Rick calls 'the best friend/right wife a guy could wish for!!"
Thank you this gives me hope.thanks for sharing your story. I am 45 never married, so I'll do what I do! I love this movie cause it does give you hope too!
I stopped dating after college to focus on my career. When I finally stopped looking for someone to fulfill me, I actually found someone I could fulfill. I was 42. He was 46. We were surprised by a baby boy after four years of marriage. A sweet life.
Her Dad ruled her and Mom knew this had to stop. Dad selfish as can be. Fred is right and good ole gal will be feelin mighty stupid in a few yrs. I have two girlfriends like this - SHE SURE DID RIGHT IN THE END
"Granny" looking pretty. Dana Andrews is great! I'm learning to like Betty Hutton more and more. I recently watched Red, Hot and Blue with Victor Mature and loved it! Your channel is fun. Thank you
all these young people who don't question Leo DiCaprio as a 22 year old FBI Agent or Keanu Reeves as a 19 year old FBI agent bitching about the ages. altho I do agree. they should have used their actual pictures of their youth in the yearbook; why not?
yes the dad and dana similar selfish manipulative types, laura la plante and jean hagen both great comediennes, ive been watching my fave movies again and again they are like old friends - betty can have her own real estate company in SF when fred is “traveling” but i see a similar dynamic w jean and normie in a few years haha
I loved seeing Laura La Plante. When she worked in silents she had a very modern look and she still does here. She's playing Betty Huttons Mom. Isn't she adorable? Laura's sister, Violet, also made silents.
Really liked this! Betty Hutton, Dana Andrews and Jean Hagen (Singing in the Rain) are all great. Betty was more than an amazing novelty singer, she was a good, sensitive actress. I also really liked the beautiful, wise mother in this film- not familiar with the actress. As far as the casting- I did think a lot of the folks coming to the 15 yr reunion looked more like it should their 30th, but still- an interesting, sweet movie.
The Mom was played by Laura La Plante. She and her sister Violet, were silent film stars. Laura did some 'talkies' and this was her last film, 1957. She lived to be 91. She died in 1996. with her very short unfussy haircut she looked modern even in the 1920s, astonishing how she looks the same in 1957! She has a very distinct look & she was a good choice as Betty's Mother.
This was Betty Hutton's final film (1957). According to Betty herself, she received no viable film offers after this film. Betty was lucky to get this film because she had walked out of her Paramount contract 4 years earlier which basically caused her to be blacklisted in Hollywood. She again walked out on a film in 1967 which only contributed to her further demise in the business.
She had problems memorizing her lines. I believe she was suffering from some health issues that were undiagnosed at that time. It's really a shame, she had so much to offer.
I agree with you. However in an interview Betty was asked about this film. She barely wanted to acknowledge that she did this film and dismissed this film as TV. She then abruptly changed the subject.
@@jackanthony976 Yes I saw that she prefered to think of 'Greatest Show' as her last film. It's curious that she dismissed it (as well as say she did not feel the roles she was offered were exciting enough) while in retrospect, she was very good in such a role?
Festus is blowing up balloons! And Granny Clampett is on liquor duty! But why didn't they say it was the 20th reunion? They're all so old! Overall though I'm very impressed with the story. Not predictable at all.
would have loved to have met betty hutton. a great entertainer. from what ive read about her, she was a matter of fact in your face woman, telling it like it was.
Thats pretty funny. Yes I've noticed that they tended to put older actors into roles that were obviously too young for them, thought we wouldnt notice! lol!
At the 1 : 07 : 56 mark the symphony music made me cry the sound is so beautiful . My mom used to play this and others. I love wonderful movies and music . Thanks for sharing this movie
Thanks for sharing this movie! A good cast make this well worth watching. While the cast appears to be too old for a 15th high school class reunion it is still a good movie.
Graduate at age 18, plus 15 years = 33 . It could be believable. Especially since this is the generation that survived world war two...that might age your face a bit? Anyway, Betty Hutton and Dana Andrews are gr8.
@@artroraback8663 Hats off to the makeup Dept! Saved Dana Andrews 15 years at least. I read that he had a drinking problem that made "The Best Years of our Lives" difficult to film at times, so drinking should age him beyond his years I guess? He even had a line here about his character looking for a bar anywhere he would go. Yikes! Ahh, the secrets of Hollywood!
Just listening to the beginning of the movie I’m so happy I found this to watch instead of the crap on Fox CNN and msnbc. We need to stop watching those shows while their increasing they are increasing their incomes, they get rich we get nuts!! Watch pure good old fashion movies so the brain recalibrate to calm peaceful mindset I turned my cable off. I haven’t watched tv in 3 months. Don’t listen to the News unless I have to get weather. We are being brainwatched!! Time to watch pure movies without sex drugs and cursing. Tv is killing our minds. Watch these great movies when life was good!!! Also the less we tune in, their ratings go down and maybe we all align ourselves to basics.
Although it fleetingly captures the loneliness of some of its principals, it is largely a nostalgia-ridden and unimaginative comedy-drama that makes its points haltingly and without impact. Like the members of Carson High School's class of '41, 'Spring Reunion' tries desperately but fails to make its rosy dreams come alive." Spring Reunion was a screen comeback for actress Betty Hutton, her first film in five years since her departure from Paramount Studios in 1952, after the completion of the musical Somebody Loves Me. Although Hutton's performance was praised by several critics, the film generated little interest and failed at the box office. It was Hutton's last feature film. The film opened at the Astoria Theatre in London, England in late December 1956.
Dana Andrews was 47 when he made this... meaning he would have graduated at 32! But I guess 23 years later in Grease Stockard changing was 32\3 graduating ..... life was hard back then.....
UNUSUAL FILM FOR BETTY HUTTON...SHE CLAIMED ON HER TCM INTERVIEW THAT "THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH" WAS HER LAST FILM...THIS SHOWS SHE MAY HAVE ENTERED DEMENTIA AS SHE MADE SEVERAL FILMS INCLUDING THIS ONE LATER ON...ALWAYS FELT SHE WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING MEANINGFUL IN HER LIFE AND HEARD SHE FOUND GOD IN HER LATER LIFE...LOVED HER...
HS Graduates in 1941 were heavily drafted. Many of them never returned. HS reunions were far from their minds, and probably depressing.. War Veteran reunions were more of their thing.
Having been born in 1950, I'm actually thankful for WW2 solving many of the overpopulation problems that have all come back to haunt our planet with every problem that man's fruitfulness has created tenfold. There's an end in sight, one that we will have to ride until all of the methane hydrates are melted along with all of the biological methane ends up heating the atmosphere and there's not much we can do about it unless we end fossil fuel usage immediately and that is not possible with our military using more than the Nation does. War is killing us and the Pentagon has its lobbyists that guarantee that it will remain in control in a time when we are the most powerful and nobody challenging our power, but we must pursue peace unless we want more war and continue to supply other countries that are bad actors in their race to KILL.
Why not make sure that you are truly saved by Jesus Christ and practice this way. Remorsefully confess with your heart your sins to Jesus Christ who is God and tell Him that you right now are repenting of your sins and you want to be born again of the Spirit from above. Tell Jesus that you are remorsefully sorry for breaking His commandments and that you are begging for forgiveness from Him. Allow His blood from the cross to wash away your sins. After this is done with your heart successfully the Holy Spirit will come to live within you and He will rebuild you from the inside out. Look for signs that you are saved. Things like spreading the good news from Jesus, getting other people saved, a craving for the word of God, reading the Bible, etc… These things are known as a calling and fruit bearing. If you're not bearing fruit then keep doing it. Sometimes it takes time to get saved. Read Matthew chapter 13 from the King James Bible. God bless!!!
If you are hearing voices there are legal psychoactive drugs to help you along your road to recovery, but voting for Trump will not help the Nation that you live in.
That Jesus is NOT God is easily seen at John 14:1, 28, in which he said to his eleven faithful apostles: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Exercise faith in God; exercise faith also in me........You heard that I said to you, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I am." Jesus made it clear that he is NOT God, showing a distinction between God and himself, saying further that "the Father is greater than I am", but there is much more. At John7, Jesus tells the Jews: "What I teach is not mine, but belongs to him who sent me. If anyone desires to do His will, he will know whether the teaching is from God or I speak of my own originality."(John 7:16, 17) And at John 7:28, 29, Jesus continues telling the Jews: "You know me and you know where I am from. And I have not come of my own initiative, but the One (God, whose name is Jehovah, see Isa 12:2, KJV) who sent me is real, and you do not know him. I know him, because I am a representative ("representative", Greek apostello meaning "to send on a mission") from him, and that One sent me." Then at John 8, Jesus says: "After you (the Jews) have lifted up the Son of man (on a stake, putting him to death), then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing of my own initiative; but just as the Father taught me, I speak these things. And the One who sent me (Jehovah God) is with me; he did not abandon me to myself, because I always do the things pleasing to him."(John 8:28, 29) God is not taught as Isaiah 40:13, 14 establishes, but Jesus was taught by God as Isaiah 50:4 says: "The Sovereign Lord Jehovah has given me the tongue of those taught, so that I may know how to answer the tired one with the right word. He awakens me morning by morning; He awakens my ear to listen like the taught ones." And John 1:1, 2 does not teach that Jesus is God, for an accurate translation of it reads: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was a god. This one was in the beginning with God."(New World Translation) So, Jesus is rightfully called "the firstborn of all creation" (Col 1:15), and "the beginning of the creation by God".(Rev 3:14)
you gonna force god to obey you? thats a laugh. “Those he foreknew he also PREDESTINED….” read the bible; quit telling people to push their own salvation. we are here to do gods will.
@@larrypahl5756 I did give the Biblical quotation of John 14:28, where Jesus said that "the Father is greater than I am", showing Jesus as subservient to the Father, whose name is Jehovah.(Isa 12:2, 26:4, KJV) However, many are unwilling to carefully examine the Bible, just keeps pushing "the Holy Trinity" down the road.
