That's why when I was a teen I worked out my right arm relentlessly- non stop. That's why we all did it- right fellas? I may have to wear glasses now but, I can throw a jerkbait all day.
Thanks for all the great points on rod/reel/line/ and technique. Been fishing jerkbaits for years on a spinning set up. Often in a kayak. Just bought a casting setup for JB since I get fatigued after awhile with a spinning rod. I use opposite hands for spinning and casting.
great video! quick question. when throwing braid, are you tying it right to the jerkbait? Are you using any type of fluorocarbon leader? And or do you tie the braid to a clip or barrel swivel? Thanks
excellent tip on using braid, i had someguy that laughed at me for using, and told me it was wrong, im glad to know it really is another trick in the box!
Its not a trick, you should be using flouro. This is just something he does personally. Braid pulls your bait up, and when a fish eats a jerkbait theres no need for a heavy hookset. You actually have a higher chance of ripping it out of a fish’s mouth if you hookset on braid. If you want less stretch, use braid but with a leader, a long one. That’ll keep your bait down and give you enough strength for jerking the bait without too much stretch. But who am I, hes a pro and im just a boy from Cali who jerkbait fishes all year.
Favorite thing about jerkbaits is the arm pump , it's like your Riding a 2 stroke haha . As a new angler a jerkbait has become my number 1 confidence bait
You the man, I love jerk bait fishing, and I live in SW GA. When it's working, there's nothing more fun to me than that pole loading up on the other end.
I have two setups for jerkbait thanks to you Brian and Matt and Tim from Tactical bassin My warmer water setup is a without My Colder water setup is a Dobyns DC 684CB paired with a Lews Pro Ti with 10 pound Flouro. Allows me to slow the action of that jerkbait and still get it down to depth "If you didnt think there was a science to this stuff, you were wrong"
Nice video. I fish jerkbaits 365...I've caught almost every species of game fish in our waters including perch and bluegills crappie ...huge trout ...bass...its all about technique....I learned from watching fish twitch as they die .
Cool video! What about the jerkbait getting tangled up in your braid B Lat? Is there a way to work around that? Would a braid to a shortish fluoro leader be viable?
B-Lat im just an electrician that fishes alot and i learned this year using my. Curado BFS 8.1 with a 6'8"ML was money all fall with soft and hard jerkbaits
Love the sound effects Brian! So, I get using the 20-30lb braid for A number of reasons like you mentioned. With the water being 4-6’ visibility, I will probably still tie on a 6-10 ‘ floro leader, But that’s just me. 🙂 I totally get your point that it’s not winter, and you’re really not letting the bait set still hardly at all. Plus, you experimented with this more than I So I got to take your word for it. LOL God bless!
I like the 8 pound nano braid for my jerk baits. Although, like mono, braid has a lot of friction in the water so I have found that I don’t always achieve my desired depth easily
Late to the party but man, gotta say the sound effects and hand gestures were on point in this one. What about middle of the summer hot as balls water temps in the high 80s for a jerkbait? I can visually see bass chasing Shad and busting the surface. Any good?
Lmfao What is a buzz bait look like nothing! Nice video Great info I’m wondering if I’m gonna be able to do this from my kayak I like wiggle warts in those bright colors I like the old-school storm wiggle warts not the old old ones they used to come in a yellow box you could get them at Walmart those things are killer the bright colors man have a really good Drawling power
Dude, that braid explanation is spot on! I've been telling my buddy I catch way more on a jerk bait with STRAIGHT BRAID! I've tried the leader thing and as soon as I switch to all braid BAM! The action you can get with braid has it all over leaders. Most of the time I am using a jerk bait I'm not waiting long enough on the pause to have the bass inspect my line anyway. Now in the Winter, with those longer pauses, maybe I'll choose to use a leader with my braid. Oh, and you are so right about setting the hook on a fish caught far away on a long cast. Nothing compares to braid there! I don't need stretch in my line when a fish hits 75" away!
So as far as gear ratio what’s all around good gear ratio I prefer medium to medium I’m still learning how to match the hook the bait up with the proper fishing pole like learning the weight of different lures
Great setup video, I from Spain,I fish a bass in my country and I really learn about the specific techniques in your canal, thanks 🙏 Is the best explanation of a probassangler in all RU-vid!!
I've been fishing since I was a child but what I love about watching your videos is you actually take the time to explain why not just why you fish up allure in a certain way but what it does to make the fish bite something a beginner needs to know
Hey Brian your videos are really awesome! I’m just getting into fishing. What makes the jerkbait the best windy day lure as you said in this video? Also as a beginner with a limited number of rod/reel set ups is it just kinda best to use braid in general?
