It does. With speedsters like Libbok, Canaan Moody, KLA etc, Springboks need to put the backs on the level they were in the Danie Gerber era. Boks were formidable up front but their backs also had a devastating effect.
I applaud the new appointments. It would be naive to think that we can win the World Cup again without further evolving how we play. Very keen to watch the Irish play at Kings Park!!
@@Alias-gy3tz Not in the sense that the occasion is bigger. But it'll be a bigger test of the Boks' ability. 2021 Lions weren't that great, Gatland's gameplan could be countered... Boks could match them physically. This Irish series is going to be huge challenge. Home ground advantage will help yes but Ireland looking ominous
I think the movement of coaches between hemispheres and nations, is good for rugby, it would be nice to see some of the heavyweights get involved with nations below the top 10
With Rassie at the helm planning probably started just after the wcup.Rassie is always planning ahead and i think the appointments are not just excellent but also very strategic. Way to go Boks!!
The Rassie coaching setup, over the past 6 years hasn't actually had a full 4 year cycle. Rassie took over 18 months out of the 2019 WC and then had no rugby for another year and a half, after 2019, due to Covid. Hopefully this time, he gets a full 4 year cycle, to show us what he can do.
I would be very interested to see whether they make any changes to the defensive structures that have worked so well for a very long time. Tony Brown will most definitely bring plenty of attacking witch-craft, which with the likes of Moodie, KLA, Kolbe etc will be fantastic to watch. Some brave calls, but very excited to see what they can do as a Springbok fan. Also very interesting to see Jaco Peyper added as a permanent part of the coaching group - that has to be another first from Rassie?
No France appointed Jérôme Garcès in 2021 as part of the coaching team so it isn't a first. But good appointments nonetheless. Excited to see what Brown can bring as teams need to keep adapting their game to stay on top and importantly, not have one style of play either. I am hoping to watch NZ game in CT later this year and this is the year to win a RC with a clean sweep of teams too.
After all said and done, the Springboks absolute greatest asset is their ability to evolve! The Jake White era was great, but became to predictable. No way that happens to Rassie!
Some good moves .. what I am looking forward to in a few years when farrell leaves ireland is ROG in at head coach and his 3 former team mates joining the ticket, felix, Jerry and PoC staying on. The experience they all have from NZ, SA, France and England will be unreal.
Would love Stuart Lancaster to made Irish head coach after Farrell. His experience and that level and the work he’s done at Leinster I think makes him ideal.
@@davineames makes you wonder if England kept faith in Lancaster and his team what could've been. That being said, maybe that experience is what pushed them all to excel.
@@coatknight All England had to do was bring in a director of rugby to sort out the off field stuff and let Lancaster do his thing on the field. Also he would have had Farrell as his assistant.
Saffa based in Ireland- Flannery was excellent as an in studio pundit on Irish tv- really impressed me. Not sure of his credentials as a defence coach, think he was more forwards coach at Quinn’s
So by the end of 2027, Rassie will have been with the boks for near as dammit 10 years. 3 world cups. Surely that's got to be some kind of record? What's thr longest recorded coaching tenur?
@@Kroema. man those were different times hey. 12 tests in 7 years, and an 83% win record. Rassie is coming into year 6 now, but i doubt he'll retire with an 80% win record. I'm not even too sure what his win record is now, if I had to guess I'd probably say about 60-65% but that really is a thumbsuck.
The appointment of an attack coach is very telling how they want to play. Can't wait for them to completely evolve and play a slightly more attacking game and people turn on them in 2027 and still find any excuse to criticize
Yes they will. This notion that the Springboks do not play attacking rugby is utter bs. I can not believe some South Africans actually fall for it. The Springboks have an all round game. They can defend, scrum, maul, great in line outs, AND they can run the ball.
@@Alias-gy3tz they don't play an attacking based game they really more on defense and kicks and rely on the dangerous back 3 to create tries i don't mind it but i think pointless kicking is a major issue like when we have penalty advantage in the opposition 22 and then do a stupid cross that was never on or box kicking when we're behind last few minutes of the game when we can just run it and find some space use your penalty advantage wisely it's a free play and even if it doesn't work u still have the penalty instead of just wasting the penalty advantage
To clarify, SA only had 3 years in the last cycle as they missed a whole year of rugby due to COVID (unlike any other team who lost maybe 40% of games) so they actually had to rotate more in fewer games than they had planned (I'm sure the next Chasing the Sun will touch on this too). This cycle, they have almost a "bonus" 13/14 tests that they wouldn't have had in the last cycle. I do expect a refresh of the squad but it won't be as drastic as the last cycle and more of a slow burn over the next 4 years. I expect (hopefully) we will see a bit more stability in selection and as result, more consistent results, at least over the next 2 years. Need to get a Rugby Championship and beat Ireland to kick on properly from the World Cup.
All those muppets who have always reassured themselves with that simplistic and false mantra that the Boks just play boring rugby are now shitting themselves as they realise that the Arendses, Kolbes, Moodys, D'allende's, Kriels , Esterhuysens , Willemses et al have now SA's first dedicated attack coach and one of the calibre of TB. Our recipe just developed a notch - from pulverise and Destroy to Pulverize, Destroy and Cut to Absolute Pieces.
