I'm a grumpy kiwi. I'm traveling for work, and after a long night we checked in to this hotel, but they didn't tell us that in five hours a full day of fire alarm tests would begin. We could have gone elsewhere, so why didn't they let us know? I'm pretty damn exhausted.

Probably the reason why they're doing it. The whole entire day is to test all the initiating devices and make sure they will activate the system and if they won't activate the system they will replace them. They did this at my school at one point and didn't even let us know till after the alarm was silenced the first time

Reminds me of a place where i used to do night shift. Evac system test always around 3am usually once a month. The amount of swearing that always started as the test did...lol

It’s called code 3 horn, and this sound alone has created a fear of indoor pool fire alarms even though I know it will never happen and never heard/seen it.

@@the_mariocrafter no I don’t have a fear of fire alarms, if I did then I wouldn’t be an enthusiast about it. I made this comment two years ago and I did a little bit more digging into the world of red squares on the wall that scream at you. I just have a phobia of indoor pools. Something about them is just… off

Happened to me in Kindergarten during nap time ever since then I start developing a fire alarm fear and now I worry about them a lot so I watch videos to desensitize myself and exposure therapy it's the closest I can do .

Simlex 4003. I absolutely hate those pieces of shit. I like the DIN tone on the dynacord promatrix 4000 much more ( Its a super advanced PA system, and thats even just the old version.) The new versions have call stations with displays from literal phones. And its fucking smart home compatible.

They have to walk around the building and test every pull station and detector. When they test it they set it so that it only goes off while the device is active before they reset it. That’s why it goes off for a couple seconds and then stops.

They could also be testing the in-room speakers. I'm a technician, and when we do the in-room devices, there's someone at the panel who sounds the alarms when I go into a room, and silences them when I leave. It's much better than 40 hours of constant ringing.

At least it woke u up at 9:30am because last year I was in the golden sands hotel in ocean city and the first night the fire alarm went off at 2 am and it was a false alarm but when we got back to our room I couldn’t fall back asleep so I’m pretty sure I was in more misery than you

So, I'm a bit of a geek in Alarm systems, so I can lay out why this scenario happened to you: 1. Why 9:30? This is an inspection, so it has to be done by an official inspector, likely Johnson Controls as they make these devices. Due to this, the hotel has to schedule an inspection, whether it is convenient for them or not. 2. Why all day? This is a full system test. So they have to make sure every fire alarm, smoke detector, and pull station functions. with a hotel, that can take a while, hence why they started at 9:30. It is also why the alarm only periodically sounded. They had the system in "walk test" mode, to where they could pull each station and not have to keep silencing the alarm. Sorry this happened to ya, but trust me when I say the hotel did not do this to mess with yall.
