I use your split video as a reference/refresher every year or so. Because even now I will forget something when I'm busy trying to remember everything 😅.

I had a hive swarm yesterday…My wife and I got the swarm! I had inspected the hive a few days ago and had planned to split it…I have another hive likely to swarm if I don’t split it soon. I now have swarm traps (old equipment) baited to catch any news swarms (swarm commander, old drawn frames, and lemon grass oil). Hopefully any new swarms will end up in some bee ware.

Love the format and there is a video for that (whatever that is). Did a hive inspection Saturday saw 2 queen cells with larvae in them first chance I get going to look again if I find anymore I'm going to pull a nuc off of them. Just wasn't prepared to deal with it then I'm about halfway between Dallas and Tyler Tx the weather here like you said has been some what of a roller coaster ride

Great conversation. This is my first season as a beekeeper. If you are successful in trapping a swarm and reintroducing it back into a hive, have they got the urge to swarm out of their system? I mean, it could only be a matter of hours from initial swam to trap to resettlement into a new hive.

I just started keeping bee’s again last year ahead of schedule, I started building hives to get ready for this year and I guess the conditions of the commercial bee pollination company at the farm next door were less than ideal for the bees , so I imagine that the 6 colonies that moved into my hives were just happy to have a new home, so I started before I wanted to lol . I will back track a little, my mentor was my uncle , he grew up in Denton valley Tennessee, hence my family the Dentons, my uncle started keeping bees back in 1940 because we had orchards that needed pollination so the bees were well cared for and my family sold apples mainly but always looked forward to the fall markets to sell their produce and honey . Some of my family moved to Maryland where I reside now on a farm on the southern shore nestled in many farms of corn, melons , pumpkins etc . My bee journey didn’t start till 1971 , my uncle had slowed down to 5-600 colonies in his 5 acre orchard and that’s where I got my start , I wore a suit when I just started and as I got older and more efficient I wore a vale , and then nothing a lot of the times , I got stung a good bit and then after a while I developed an allergy to bees, I thought I was getting tougher but I later found out the more you get stung the more chance you take at getting an allergy, in my case I started having severe reactions so out of fear of getting stung I quit , I’ve always loved bees, I eat propalis , wax , royal jelly , honey , pollen , I’ve eaten every thing but the hives and the bees themselves 😂and I still drink honey and ive consumed 2 lbs of honey in a day at times , natures candy!! Ok now that my love and obsession for all things bee has established , something happened a couple years ago and the obsession for bees started to override the fear of getting stung so I decided to get back into bees after a 25+ year break from bees, a lot has changed, there are more backyard bee professionals and bee bullies now days and there are a lot of things I never dealt with before , beetle , wax moths , trachial mites , varoa destructor mites and tons of habitat being destroyed and the overwhelming use of pesticides and herbicides, one thing hasn’t changed though, bees still swarm and the basic principle of raising bees is the same , but being a woodworker has enabled me to do the building of hives at a cheaper cost , I built 5 cedar flow hives , I built my first horizontal hive , which is a Brilliant idea !! I will be building more for sure !! And I built 100 langs with some nucs too , so this year i have 3 pound packages coming so hopefully I will have 12 colonies going into winter , I never bought bees before, we always trapped our own so buying bees I have 0 experience with, so my biggest question is how much does a 3 pound package grow from March until winter comes and you have to winter ? P. S. I’m excited about getting back into bees and there are plenty of resources on my farm and around to feed the bees well, I really like your guys channel too , it’s on my favorite list ❤

@@CentralBeekeepersSupply the bees are still the same , they love sugar, salt , sun from the south , they sting when you pinch em , chase you back to the tractor when they get hot , they swarm in the spring and sometimes in late summer and your favorite best producing hive will never last longer than a couple years when you get a dud queen, you just always have to be on your toes and let the bees tell you what they want and do your best to keep up with them 😃🙏🏻 they really are magnificent little creatures , the way god meant them to be , survival oof the fittest 😀

Ok fans of this channel. I am stepping way out of my lane,so full disclosure this comment has not been condoned, endorsed or solicited by any of the staff of Central Beekeeping supply. We are blessed to have this fantastic store in our area so we not only have access to any Beekeeping supplies we need but also the wealth of knowledge that John and Corinne bring to the table and share freely. Stepping in to their family owned and operated store is like visiting family. Like I stated at the beginning, I have not been ask or endorsed to make this suggestion....but, here goes. John and his family operate a beautiful farm and in doing so are involved in a lot of very interesting activities that are not all related strictly to Beekeeping. His recent muskrat trapping and skinning video was a perfect example of this. So my question to all of his viewers is would you enjoy watching videos by John and his family that are related to other activities outside of the usual quality content we get from this family. Maybe a behind the scenes look at how they build their equipment, the process of shipping, some of the "counter discussions" they have that are amazing teaching opportunities, and day-to-day activities they have on their farm...in other words, just a closer look at these wonderful folks. My motivation is pretty simple, I have met very few folks that have worked this hard to go from basically a hobby in to a full blown supply store and I think they deserve a much bigger following on RU-vid that will help spread the care and propagation of bees to a ever widening group. If you would enjoy seeing more videos of Beekeeping techniques and other parts of their farm life be sure and hit the subscribe button ,share ,like and comment. If anyone deserves to see their channel grow it is this great family. And thank you from one of their customers.

As a new beekeeper (starting this spring), I really appreciate a video like this. There's a lot of information on the internet about beekeeping, but I felt like I was sitting down with a subject matter expert and having a conversation while I watched. Most of the content out there is blanket content that is very helpful for the initial learning phase, but doesn't address specific and more complex concerns that a newer beekeeper may have. Thank you for the great content, you have earned my subscription for sure.

If I set a swarm trap near my hives will i catch the natural swarm sir?
@CentralBeekeepersSupply
@CentralBeekeepersSupply Год назад
No guarantees, but you can bait a hive body, place it minimum 50-60 yards directly in front of your apiary at around 9’-10’ off the ground and have a good chance of catching your own swarms. You might check out this video on setting swarm traps. I hope you catch ‘em! m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--qvnoBi_PME.html
