Sprinkler leaking fix: replace anti-siphon diaphragm Orbit

If you have a sprinkler that is always wet (and it is the lowest sprinkler or end of the line), then the problem is with the valve. Either the diaphragm needs to be replaced, or the solenoid or there is a malfunction with the internal channels within the valve body. This video shows how to replace the diaphragm. Takes 15 minutes.

Good video. The part from 6:05-610 is the most important part. I thought I had the wrong part because of the gap. The only thing I needed was the 5 seconds were you said this was normal.

Glad it was helpful. Nice to have that confirmation!

On the Lawn Genie valve, just below the solenoid, there is a 2 to 3 mm grommet that can fall out easily if the top is removed. If it does fall out it will be in operable. If it falls out, simply put it back in, but it has a specific orientation so that must be respected as well. Ask me how I found out - ha ha.

I have a similar problem the drip lines don’t seem to stop, even with the sprinklers valves off, the issue is when the sprinklers are turned on the drips don’t work however if I manually open the valves they work, so I’m wondering if it’s a solenoid issue? But I also think it’s a diaphragm issue as the water would not stop running from the drip lines.

How old is your valve? Orbit has 6 year warranty? . Might want to call them or check website for replacement.

I’m having the same problem. I don’t know how long it’s been going on but my lawn is wet and it’s draining into my water meter box. Is that something that happens with so much run off and the sprinklers being off for five days?

Gravity will drain the line to the lowest sprinkler location. It should stop draining in a minute or two. Depending on the grade of your property ( flat?), it could take longer, but it doesn't matter. Ongoing leakage or sogginess with valve off means either you have a leak at the diaphragm or the valve has had a good life and must be given a proper final burial. I have had to do that, too. If your other valves and lines are okay, then you've isolated the problem line and can start to fix what is wrong. Good luck!

Nice video. thanks for sharing it. I have several Orbit valves which have water leakings from Anti-siphon Lid. I want to replace Anti-Siphon lids and seal carriers. Do you know where I can buy the parts?

Hmm, is that back pressure that subsides, or is it constant? Or do you mean leaking when pressurized when sprinkling? Well, might try orbit.com for parts. It's possible a local plumbing or landscaping company might have it. Just hope the net cost of driving and parts are not more than a replacement cost of $17.00 at big box for a new valve in which you can take apart for parts...

@@westvalley411 I just realized my valves are lower than the sprinkle heads. Somebody told me that could be the cause. I probably will have to raise the valve height by reinstalling them.

@jfc650 yes, 6 inches above the highest sprinkler. Make sure to cover the valves group in winter to prevent freezing water to damage system. I have one group covered with decorative hollow plastic rock and another with an upside down 5 gallon waste basket. Also put 1 inch or larger tube insulation on all pvc lines. It's cheap and easy to do.

@@westvalley411 Thanks so much. Our winter is relatively warm, no freezing point. 😀

I have a valve that leaks at the bleeder valve. Very slow leak. I replaced the diaphragm but it still leaks. Any ideas?

You can try to replace the bleeder O-ring, but the valve may be broken or worn out. What brand is it? How old? I have Orbit and they are under warranty for 6 years. Go to manufacturer website. Most of us don't keep receipts for Items like this For under twenty bucks. But take a pic of tge leak and upload with your problem description.
