Nice cockpit fairing, great machine.

It's good to see that any gyro builders nowadays are taking their noise signatures seriously, as in flying neighbourly and quietly. As the urban sprawl keeps expanding more and more outwards into rural areas, there is more possibility of sensitive ears being offended by overly noisy gyros buzzing around. Even the local police helicopter gets howls of noise complaints when it is tasked doing area surveillance missions.

I do not know if the noise abatement focus is due to altruistic consciousness or compliance with laws in some countries such a Germany. Nevertheless I too would welcome the absence of the high engine RPM’s noise and propellers spinning their tips near the speed of sound. The mosquito ultralight helicopter is especially ear-grating even without the presence of a propeller beating the air into submission. Engine designs are forced into two categories when considering power to weight specifications; spin the engine at high rpm’s and lower displacement with a propeller reduction unit (PRU) attached or large displacement and larger diameter and slower spinning direct drive propellers. The later being far too heavy for designers taste but far most pleasant on the ears. I prefer the sound of a converted Volkswagen engine or Subaru with a PRU to that even to the 2 cycle’s high pitched buzzing. I never have had the chance to hear it fly but Ron Herron’s Little Wing with that wonderful small radial engine would be a treat on both the ears and the eyes.

A touch on the heavy side for a single seater. Prefer the lighter machines.

When a guy is asking you if 419 is the weight of the motor, you know he understands physics.
@GyroGerald
@GyroGerald Год назад
Or either he is wondering why he was told 419 when he asked how much the motor weighs. Lol

@GyroGerald
@GyroGerald Год назад
@@hellycopulaucity4347 well it depends on what you want. This gyro price is at the end of the video but a used gyro can be found for $10K in the states etc.

New to gyros. How fast can it go with 100hp?
@cameronlapworth2284
@cameronlapworth2284 Год назад
Wrong question. All gyros are somewhat speed limited due to safety. Even a gyro with quite low hp can do 100mph + but its risky because the disk angle is very low and if you tip the disk below horizontal for anything like over a second you are dead. This is true of all gyros. Ken Wallis with 72 hp engine with a 42 inch prop was able to get one of his gyros (much lighter than this) up to 130mph but that was with short rotors (19ft) all sorts of modifications like an adjustable offset on the rotor head, adjustable stabilizer to level the airframe at those speeds. Most modern gyros don't go even that fast and its not about hp. My old direct drive VW did 80mph easily and I knew blokes who flew them over 100mph but they were nuts, really risking unloading the blades. If you are very experienced you can fly that fast (especially in a streamlined gyro) but you need to be disciplined enough not to punch the stick forward or fly in such a manner as to try responding to any thermals by applying pitch changes you use power to control altitude if the machine pitches in turbulence your machine is not set up right (mostly likely doesn't have down thrust on the engine). I didn't like flying about 60mph in an open gyro anyway your helmet wants to rip off your head and the harness straps would flick my nipples repeatedly. It was always much more pleasant flying between 35-40mph. The good thing about gyros is low speed capabilities and maneuverability. If you want fast to fly cross country I suggest a fixed wing.

@@cameronlapworth2284 very informative. I was just thinking I wanted to get to places in Texas faster. Hop from land to land without traffic and faster than a car
@cameronlapworth2284
@cameronlapworth2284 Год назад
@@Coldlegend214 Yeah you could probably cruise in most at 80mph safely some a bit quicker. Fixed wing like an rv8 is significantly quicker even a kitfox or something will cruise at 130ish. Sonex around the same. This machine with 100hp will certainly push along its just the rotor disk angle gets shallower. If you can handle something like an 80mph cruise gyros are extremely stable in thermally weather but your ground speed will come down in any wind. But as a transport from place to place any gyro even the $150 000 ones won't do much better than 100 some maybe 115mph but again very shallow disk angle. The heavier they are the bigger the rotors the bigger the motor needs to be. Look at the frame on this thing, Given the weight I'd guess its stainless steel welded - there's your weight. My instructors 2 seater with a rotax 912s (4stroke) significantly heavier engine still only weighed 180-190kg (can't remember which) 418pounds empty. There is no reason this should be so heavy 26 foot rotors on this. Not as long as some. But check out this machine for comparison. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TkSdn26d0Iw.html this one is open frame he built others with enclosures by comparison his blades where only 20ft 6 inch diameter and 6 1/2 inch chord compared to this thing 26ft 8 inch chord. his machine weighed only 255 pounds. at 9 minutes you'll see the take off performance, Its all about weight, including speed. 100hp 2 stroke imagine how much fuel that thing will burn a 54 hp 2 stroke drinks something like 20+ litres an hour. IMO (and it is just that) I would build a lighter gyro - use chrome molly tube instead of stainless or if you can get a Bensen style gyro I'd fit one of these engines ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jn3rv7RaWME.html not too much heavier than the two stroke 583 but four stroke only 11litres of fuel an hour about $10 800 including re-drive, prop everything. You could build an airframe, rotor head rotors etc for another $8000 even if you brought everything only making the airframe. Or you could buy a used gyro (that was light) and replace the motor with one of these. Get one with a light pod and you'd have a nice little gyro with good cruise, good climb, short take off. Just keep the weight off it.
