Episode 10 of The Speed Operation is here! The most exciting episode yet as I put myself to the test in several speed and strength tests, which include a 60m and 120m time trial along with other performance measures such as jump and weightlifting tests.
As my training journey towards the 2024 Track & Field season continues, I'm feeling ready to compete and make progress towards my goals, which include competing at the Paris Olympics and Rome European Championships in summer.
My indoor season begins in the next week and I'm excited to see how my testing results convert into a 60m race! Hopefully I can break my 6.70 60m PB in my season opener!
Please make sure to like, subscribe, and leave a comment if there's anything you want to see in the future.
Thanks for watching!

It’s interesting that you’re absolutely blazing fast but you bench more than you front squat. Do other guys in your club have similar bench:front squat ratios?
@joeferguson200
@joeferguson200 9 месяцев назад
It’s a weakness that I’m trying to address this year, my quad strength isn’t the best and my speed is generated from my stiff ankles/strong calves. The other guys don’t have this issue, but I’m working on fixing it🙏🏼
@Leonidas-eu9bb
@Leonidas-eu9bb 9 месяцев назад
the bench is insane strong! what was bodyweight when doing those strength test? If i'm not misstaken i see him doing powerclean more than front squating wich is crazy.. It proofs that squat strength doesn't mean much but powerclean/snatch and jumping correlates much better. Even his hamstring strength with nordics isn't that strong from what i saw. I think it's his core strength and movement efficiency that makes him so fast.

Loving these videos. Its so interesting to see how much is involved. Didn't realise how much strength work there was. I was reasonable at sprinting years ago. Tried longer distance including a half marathon but not for me!

What work did you do to get really strong and stiff ankles and calves?
@joeferguson200
@joeferguson200 9 месяцев назад
A lot of it is genetic but mainly doing plyometric based drills, I always do explosive drills as part of my daily warm-up routine and focusing on short ground contact time whilst doing them really helps with the ankle stiffness

Bro your toe is pointing down when your coming out the blocks. bring the up. dont drag the toe! Your right arm comes all the way back in your drive phase, thats too much energy going the wrong way. At all times when your arms are going up they should be shaped like a V and going back they should be shaped like a L (L,V). Your doing a great job, sometimes its the little things that will bring your time down. Because you clearly have what it takes! keep up the great work!!!

why didn't you run the 120 on more outer lane?
@joeferguson200
@joeferguson200 9 месяцев назад
Since I had to accelerate up the hill for the first 30m so to try and find a nice balance, with the indoor 200m you start at the top of the hill which makes the outer lanes more beneficial

How do you find your body weight affects your sprint times
@joeferguson200
@joeferguson200 9 месяцев назад

@@joeferguson200 tips for top end speed granted I'm 5ft8 , I've ran 3.76 30m from first movement. But my best split timed from 30-60m has only ever been 3.08 quickest. Lack a little flexibility hamstring wise , obviously made massive progression from when I started Feb 2023 but still top end speed hasn't seem to improved just acceleration/technique

Do you recommend a spike that really raps around your foot or one that’s a bit more lose?
@joeferguson200
@joeferguson200 9 месяцев назад
Personally I prefer a spike that fits tight so that it’s not moving around when you plant your foot, and prevents any power loss especially if you’re running around a bend
