Thanks for the video, after many thousands of $$$ for repairs not needed from both MB and Freightliner, misdiagnosis and actually a fried computer thanks to MB dealer Hendrik Motors in Charlotte NC after a $3,500 preemptive change of the timing chain, I come to the conclusion its better to learn how to fix it your self. Just did complete service, motor, transmission, rear end, new glow plugs, intercooler and hoses as well as resonator and seals. Got 420K on mine and still hope to see an other 2-300K. Being retired today I no longer can afford the costly dealers and it is so helpful to have folks like you that share know how as in the end the older engine are still workable without a fancy shop charging $280 an hour. Aside parts are often a fraction what the dealers want. Sven

Hello Clay... I first want to thank you for your video... I sure hope you have others... I just found your channel.... About my issues... I recently bought my second Sprinter van... My first was a 2004 140" 3500.... I loved that van...My van today is a 2012 170" Extended ... I thought I got a good deal... Until I got it home in LIMP MODE.... And found that the previous owner cut off the catalytic converters... And after diagnosing some 32 other issues...Such as a bad swirl motor... And bad turbo intake plastic thing that is separated and blowing compressed air from the turbo ... You get the idea...... I want to watch every video you have ever produced about Sprinter Vans.... All right this may not be exactly for free I will need to mooch for a couple days and fish 🤣. In all seriousness I know quite a bit about them . But I do not know everything. Hey, are you me? I just bought a 2013 170" extended van from IL that seemed like a good deal and on the way back to Michigan it entered LIMP MODE. Just got back from one of the only dealerships in the Detroit metro area that will look at sprinters and they want $3400 to replace the left and right manifold and fix an oil cooler leak. I too will be keeping a close eye on this channel as it seems I will need every bit of guidance I can get on the issue if I want to keep my wallet in one piece. Plus one sub.

Hey, just saw your video, very helpful! Could you explain in couple words the symptoms the van had and why you had to tear the intakes apart? Want to double check see if my van is doing similar things, thanks

Well even if you take the intake soften that is not your problem you certainly cannot harm at what we had was it was going into the limp mode and it would say Something about one of the runners not working you could clear the code and drive it for a couple seconds but it would go back in the limp mode there was a ton of carbon buildup inside the intakes and this is very very common for sprinter vans that don’t use blue DEF and maybe comment to them as well but I’m uncertain I’ve never owned one hopefully that information is helpful to tim if you got any other questions just let me know

as in are those arms supposed to be on a certain way? which side is supposed to default open or closed?

Yes there is in this video will show you I’m glad to hear you were able to clean your intakes. But I’m going to tell you from experience personal experience that it will go back into limp mode very quickly from my experience there’s only one way to clean them and have them continue to work and that is to disassemble them completely and reassemble them arms included Let me know if you need to know how that works but here’s the video where I show you how to put in You should I call sprinter van playlist because you should assemble it completely as one unit and install it entirely it is a pain in the butt when you have the intakes in there already but I show you how to do it as a complete unit and how to make installation brackets ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GQNEXVn0-cg.html

just ran across your video and you guys did a very good job. I have a 2011 3.0L Freightliner Sprinter. About how much should I expect to pay someone to do this type of job? The code says "intake manifold runner control stuck open". Please let me know what you think.

The dealership quoted the gentleman that I did this for $3500.00 I did them a lot cheaper than that for him. Because he let me shoot the video of me doing it and it took five days should’ve been a 2 to 3 day process. He paid $1000 for his intakes off of eBay and did not look in the box before he brought them over to me. They sent him two of the same intakes so that created a light complication. Luckily we were able to get one local for about $700. You may be excited Josh to hear that probably within the next week or two I’m going to post a video showing you how to bypass that intake problem code that you’re talking about. But replacing the intakes is the proper way to repair it. And I’ve been meaning to make that video for about three months now. But I’m absolutely certain I’m getting very close to actually doing it if you’ve got any questions you can hit me up on Clays Ac and Auto Repair on Facebook messenger. Is it possible to remove the oil cooler without removing the intakes? In this version, from the video, you don't have the EGR cooler....

Check this video out it’s a lot better even though it’s an installation video it gives you a very very good description of how to remove them and it should answer your questions , when unfortunately I do not know the answer to your question off the top of my head. Or obviously I would just answer it I’m pretty certain that you do not but this video actually shows you me doing them on a 2013. If you put in the 4.7 k ohm resister do you even need the swirl motor in there ?

I honestly do not know the answer to that but I was curious about what the ohms of the resister should be so thank you for letting me know because I’m going to definitely try it out . I know when the squirrel motor moves back-and-forth it goes off of one sensor to another sensor so I would be surprised if that works but I know people are doing it so I got assume that it works

Can you tell me where the Air intake temperature sensor is on that engine. Im having trouble finding it in order to replace it.

If I remember correctly it is on the inlet snorkel for the air tube on the passenger side of the engine

When i drive my truck uphill it starts to kick and loose power. But it is not giving me any codes no turbo leaks would it be the swirl valves and how i can i test witjy autel computer

And the only reason I say, that is because I don’t always get all of them here along with having a conversation here is terribly hard because messages get missed. OR YOU CAN ALWAYS EMAIL ME AT THENEWCLAYWAY@GMAIL.COM. When you’re looking at your auto scanner live data, you want to look at EKAS make sure that they’re doing the exact same thing that will tell you if it’s your Intakes, but from the sounds of it, it could be your particulate filter is loaded up. I would have to have some live data information possibly to be able to help you and then I’m not super good at all that information at least diagnosing it over text but we can certainly try.

I just bought a 07 sprinter I think I have a bad oil cooler leak .oil everywhere would this effect those banks? . I'm pulling alot of codes p2005 p2004 po234 . And 2 glow plug codes . Any advice on how to fix and where to buy the parts cheap ?

Well, you definitely have an oil cooler leak… it’s a 2007 so it’s gonna need the intakes done. You have to do them anyways to get to the oil cooler leak and then you change your glow plugs when you have the intakes out? I don’t know codes off my head so I don’t know what they’re for Probably for Intake runners I’m guessing.

Do the new intakes usually come with some holes that aren’t threaded while on the old intakes they are? If so what’s the best way to go about threading them?

Yes they certainly do, But all you have to do is take an electric impact and screw the screws in there it will tap itself it’s aluminum hope that helps you good luck Eric

Hey Mario good evening I’m sorry off of the top of my head I’m not quite certain that I remember having a problem with that coolant tube but if everything is still loose like it supposed to be you will be able to start all the bolts and then tighten them down once you get all of them started. I’m thinking that’s a possibility why you’re having a problem. Hopefully you’re not talking about the coolant to at the very front that is a very big pain in the ass. If you’re having problems with that you need to re-loosen everything up and then start all the bolts like I stated up there and try again sorry I hope I’m understanding correctly if not just feel free to message me back

Hey clay thanks for the video. I have an 09 with 52k miles I was wondering if I need to clean egr and manifolds Mine is limping but not throwing codes. Stop and restart fine for 250 miles did it again ideas? I do have a tuner on it

Your very welcome!!! My video of the intake install is way more complete ..... anyway ... that is strange .... No ck engine light when it is in limp mode before shut off? Removing intakes on these is not a fun job.. I doubt that’s your problem at that low of mileage . I very seldom ever seen these need to be removed and cleaned before 150,000 miles generally 200,000 miles or up. I wish I had some good ideas for you. the only other thing that I could think of is your EGR valve maybe going defective , I had that go out on mine before Intakes went. So sorry other than that I wouldn’t have any good ideas 💡.

I was told that the the charge tube could have a leak possibly from the extra boost the tuner is creating

That is extremely possible sometimes they crack. There may be one that needs to be replaced . inspect the hoses for cracks or listen for air leaks as someone presses on the fuel and let’s off of the fuel you should hear a sucking noise. You may even see the tubes expand where the crack is. I actually forgot about that I’m not that smart sometimes. And forget things. I’m getting very old..... lol Sorry I should have thought of that.

I’m sorry at the beginning of the video I did not show you exactly all the different tools that I use to get the job accomplished but I showed you the tools that you would have to have to be able to accomplish the job during the video so unfortunately I can’t give you a list but if you watch the video and use the same tools I did you will most certainly be successful I wish I could be of more help good luck

I don’t know the answer to that I’m very sorry I wish I did. I know that this dealership charges quite a bit. . Last I heard they were $3500 for labor. Plus parts For your information I actually made a lot better video of the installation on one of these I’m going to post the link for you down on my sprinter stuff I have quite a bit of detailed information on doing these. Plus within the next week or so I am going to show you how to bypass the limp mode for the problem with these intakes. I’m going to start shooting it very soon and it only cost about $2 dollars to fix and you can do it in the driveway in about 10 minutes. It took me a day to take them off and another day to put them on but I was extremely careful .... sorry I can’t answer that question I couldn’t answer how much labor time it should be. I personally charge $1500 to do them plus parts of coarse

Ok. I've been having some strange happenings with my 2008 Dodge sprinter diesel for some time now. Everyone I've talked to about how mine is acting. All the "Professionals" go straight to my swirl valves. After thinking & dealing with this for sometime now. I'm not sure it is my swirl valves. I'm thinking that it may just be my EGR valve. I haven't a clue how to work on one of these. Or how they operate. I watched a video on how to remove, clean, reinstall the EGR valve. While the kid had it apart he actuated it. A light went off in my head. This valve working slowly which this making my throttle responce & taking off from stop signs slowly is exactly what I've been experiencing all along. Plus, The EGR valve gets horrible soot build up when you let these pos idle to long. For the first 7 years of owning this pos. I use to let it idle and leave my air-conditioning run to keep my cab cool. After I would do a job. My van was like heaven. It was so cool inside. Well, Now at only 55k miles. I'm paying for it ten fold. Next week I'll pull my egr off. Clean it. Determine if I need a new one or not. Then let you know if it cures any of my problems. I just don't understand as soon as us amateurs say anything about slow throttle response. All the professional go straight to the swirl valves. They never mention the soot problems with the EGR valve first. This is an easy clean or replacement even for us amateurs. I'm not sure I would attempt the manifold replacement??

Any luck? Mine has slow throttle response as well, takes off slow too like there's no power, but then once up to speed everything works fine

@@r.seaboats6666 mine has been acting really weird. On the 21st of last month I had major corotted arterie surgery. They went in and did a bypass on them. Splayed them open. Scraped them clean. This last monday was my first time out of my house. Which means my van sat until last monday. That's almost 4 weeks. I came out in the mid-morning and started my van. The check engine light was still on just like 3 weeks earlier when I had my operation. I drove it to the post office. Which is about 2 1/2 miles away. I shut it down came out when I started it up at the post office. The check engine light was off. It's still off & the van is running perfectly. I haven't a clue what's going on with it. I'm out of town now until Tuesday. When I get home on Tuesday. I'll let you know if the light is still out or not & how it is running. I'm still considering removing my swirl valves & putting in this electronic device the tricks the computer in thinking everything is working fine. I really think this is the best way to go with these trucks. This swirl valve bull shit sucks with these trucks. If we can remove the swirl valves & trick the computer into thinking everything is working perfectly. I'm all for that......

@@ltsgarage7780 yeah same here I just bought this van and would like to get it to run decent my 5-cylinder diesel 05 model was pretty simple once I removed a couple things and a new EGR had lots of power but this v6 seems to be so stubborn I'd hate to spend a grand on these manifolds according to eBay I'm not sure how the van would run without them or what they do

Why would you start half way into the job? Then, You are holding the actuator not explaining where it came from or how to remove it? I thought you were explaining how to remove the intakes. Do you think we all just understand how to remove everything before the intakes. Then have a brain fart? Not knowing how to remove just the intakes. I guess great video on how to remove the intakes. As for everything else I think it sucked. But I'm not making videos.

Because I made a video of how to do that to their two separate videos one of how to remove a turbo then I made a video of how to remove the intakes . I’m sorry it seemed confusing but I decided to make the video during the removal process . I do 10 to 20 jobs a week and sometimes I’m not sure how they will turn out so I don’t make a video of everything in this situation I did make a complete video of removing both pieces and how to get to them just look on my page you will find them sorry I was confusing to you
