DIY vent fan install on a sprinter Van. Fantastic fan 7350 was installed on the roof over an are that had roof ribs. The roof ribs require a custom base so that the fan could sit flat. After applying Butyl tape under the base and everything got screwed down a good amount of Dicor lap sealant was used to seal around the base. The factory foam gasket and some black silicone were used on the actual fan. @projectsprinter
On our first camping trip, the fan stopped working. The company shipped a new motor that I had to replace myself. • Van Fan Stopped Working

I picked this up off eBay and it didn't come with the screws or remote. I installed the whole thing before realizing I had no way to turn it on. I looked all over for a picture of one without a switch. Thank you so much for showing me that it appears not to be broken. It's just the sensors and not broke off. Sigh. Heavy sigh. Thank you.

Now that's one fine job on the installation of the fan and the production of your video too. Thanks for putting this up.

Do not measure twice. Measure 10 times. This is not a do-over scenario. This is a space mission to the moon. Mistakes are not an option. I spent 30 minutes inside my van measuring where the van will fit and marking my first corner hole. Then another 30 minutes on the roof measuring and marking the lines for my cut. I also stopped a few times in the middle of cutting to measure my cut to make sure it was not running in/out. My cut came out perfect and I do not regret taking the extra time to do it right. I highly recommend placing your fan in a spot where you only have to cut into one groove/valley/bump or whatever you want to call it. Cutting out that groove weakens the roof considerably so try to avoid cutting more than one groove.

when applying caulking of any sort. use a solution of mild soap and mainly water. Spray it on the caulk and use finger to smooth it out. This will get rid of any air gaps as well seal properly and look much better.. Window installer do the same thing

Where is it best to place the fan (front vs back of bus) . My kitchen is toward the front of the bus but my bed and pets area is toward the back. Just curious where it’s going to be most efficient!

No leaking issues.

This is great! Thanks! Were actually doing the same thing, moving the fan so we have to work around the ridges. Have you had any leaking issues since putting it in?

heith :) That's actually why I searched videos on this because I wanted to know how high (height lol) it went. I thought it could be cut down, though.

I have been watching a lot of videos on this. I am about to install one of these on my 2002 Dodge ram van. I am really starting to think that screwing through the top of the roof is not necessary at all. Those extra holes are asking for extra leaks. Wouldn't enough sealant around the edges hold it down fairly well?

How did you paint your roof AC? Did you remove the cover and paint it or paint it while on the roof?

Nice install. But how do you power it? Any info on wiring the fan to the 12v system?

I remember there was a constant hot going to the center light. You can try that. I will be installing an aux batt. System soon and it will tie in to that.

DO NOT(!!!!) make relief cuts to flatten the roof like in this video!!! Very very bad idea. You are risking so much for basically nothing. Just build up the flat areas to the higher levels with an adapter or stuff the gaps in the grooves with mastic tape. Keep it simple. Don't create unnecessary work where one wrong cut/bend and you just created a bigger hole and have to buy sheet metal and do welding. Don't do it.

After over a year, have you had any leak issues? Would you do anything differently if you had to do it again?
@DIYSprinterVan
@DIYSprinterVan 7 лет назад
Christian Butcher No leaks yet and we have had some good rain. I might make a sound deadening cover for underside when driving in long trips to limit the wind and road noise.

thats alot of rattle trap... they say only use about 25-30% coverage, anything above that doesnt do anything but add cost and weight.

how did you wire the fan?
@DIYSprinterVan
@DIYSprinterVan 8 лет назад
I had my headliner down so i was able to wired it straight to a blue sea 12v fuse panel. The fuse panel is directly connected to my aux battery in the back.

how do you do the wiring? where does it connect to?
@DIYSprinterVan
@DIYSprinterVan 7 лет назад
cody modes the wiring is pretty simple, it just needs a 12v power source. I had my ceiling panel down and was able to hide the wires. It then connects to a blues sea fuse box. But you could directly connect it to one of your 12v cigarette outlets.
