Sprinter Van modifications on a budget. We are a family of 6 and do not want to fully convert our rig into a camper van. My DIY build is meant to be portable so that bench seats can be taken out and the kitchenette, bed, etc. put in for road trips. We still like to accommodate up to 12 passengers at a time and have the ability to use the cargo space.
My wife @firewifesadie and I have come up with creative ideas to appease our taste for niceties while retaining the stealthy design of the van. It's a creative process to live minimally and always a battle between wants, needs and space. While we focus on budget friendly ideas, there are some things worth the investment to bring creature comforts of home to yours on the road.
I welcome ideas, suggestions and feedback and welcome you to join our Sprinter Van private Facebook Group. | facebook.com/groups/sprintervanowners also check out my instagram @projectsprinter (picture of me welding👍🏽)
I have a very similar radio that stock I believe. I don't know what version it is but terrible reception. I can't get any AM. And FM is very spotty can't even get my favorite country radio station to come in full time. I think I'm going to try to pull the radio out check out to see how or if the antenna is hooked up properly. I'm going to check out the rest of the video to see how to do it
My 2020 3500XD Sprinter 907 has basically the battery in the same location. Same ground quick connect at firewall also. However the little black plastic distribution box "pre-fuse" box is similar but different, similar fusible links and connections in it. In my case there was a loose locknut I believe where the up-fitter Thor added an additional bus bar causing my entire Sprinter to be dead, not even the emergency flashers would work. It was towed with the drive shaft disconnected at the rear. A 2019+ 907 type Sprinter video would be great!
This is the best scan gauge walk through from a sprinter owner. It’s boggling that a company like MB has not equipped these vans with such basic and important features like Mpg and distance to empty. My 2017 still doesn’t have it so I bought a scan gauge ii as well.
I actually liked the way did it. Hole saws may not be the correct size and by cutting by hand, you get a perfect fit. Landmarks can be deceiving, always measure if you want perfect symmetry.
Hi, i have a question for you. I bought the same reversing camera and the LED module that was on the oryginal does not fit. Mercedes sprinter w 906 2011. Did you have any problems because in the movie I saw that you also did not like something. Please help.
Not sure if this is the same as a 2015 Sprinter, but my friend took his to the dealer. They said the rear AC belt takes a "special tool" to replace it, they want to charge him $750 for all the belts. I wonder if their "special tool" is a long screwdriver?!
I want to share my review of the Fantastic Vent 3350 because my experience with the fan is anything but fantastic. I bought mine 18 months ago, as friends, who have an older model, said it was very good. However mine makes a lot of noise and pushes so little air that I can barely tell if I have it set to exhaust or blow. If I turn it up to get more airflow it becomes even noiser! The rain sensor closes the vent at night so I can only assume that it senses the night time moisture and closes even though it is NOT raining. My friend's older model seems to push more air than my newer model. I get much better & quieter airflow from my little Sirocco fan and it was only $!60 not over $600. Dometic agreed to replace the fan and the airflow improved a little but it is still very noisy AND the rain sensor closes the fan at really odd times like late afternoon. So we can't use the fan unless we manually open the cover. So in summary, I have found it an appallingly poor performing fan that is just not worth the money.
I really like the notion of using a bar to attach the L-Track to the van. If you were to do the project again, with the likely (low) weight supported by the L-Track, would you have used aluminum bar instead of steel? I'm thinking of ease of fabrication and weight savings would make aluminum a good choice here.
Great install! I have a question about the crossover. I'm replacing both door speakers and tweeters. Each speakers has its own feed. So do it jus wire them in or should I use the crossover on 1 set of wires? I have door speakers wires and separate tweeter wires behind the mirror. Thank you
How did Mercedes ever get away with such a cheap crappy stereo in the first place..its unbelievable cheap n nasty with terrible sound...mines a 2007 model
Great video!...very helpful for my build. Do you have a radio install video right now? I need to know ow to put a new stereo in my Sprinter. Thanks a million for your time.
navigation that does not use cell towers is preferable. using your cell phone for navigation encourages tracking and other invasive practices. you can update Garmin, Tom Tom or any other nav system easily with a laptop.
Kudos for sharing. My thoughts: 1. Buy a hole saw kit on Amazon so cutting becomes trivial. 2. Flip the headliner over and there are lots of landmarks thus no measuring.
Great job. Particularly like that you walked through the fix for the factory design/fab defects on the side plates and wiring module. Git to be frustrating to spend that kind of money only to discover a problem with a cross over piece!
Thanks for the video. I stopped after 1 min though because the image doesn’t capture what needs to be seen. You should make sure the framing is better next time.
I have this same unit and installed it last night under the drivers seat of my Mazda 3. I love it. It's not going to bang while you go down the street, but the sound inside of the car is great!
I want to mount this on my front seats so I'll definitely want the non-drilled holes. Many conversions have swivels on the front seats (after all, they're probably the most comfortable in the vehicle) but I want one that slides into the back. It doesn't have to do more than support its own weight back there and it's back over the base while driving so this should do the trick!
Hey ! I have the stock radio on my sprinter 2012. How do I connect it to the radio unit? I want the USB and Aux mounted in the dash as u shown in the video.
