Former NBA Superstar Spud Webb of the Atlanta Hawks, Slam Dunk Contest Champion from 1986, now a Business Executive, still proves he can dunk with the best of them 25 Years later!
That is amazing. I am 6'2" and I remember the very day I couldnt dunk anymore. I was 36 years old and one day just couldnt dunk it easily. After that day I was able about 20 percent of the time for about another month or so and then just couldnt get up there anymore. I went from a a 39 inch vertical in high school to a 27 inch by the time I was 35. Now after a broken leg at age 66 I am proud to say I have a 12 inch vertical. Aging sucks
Same happened to me. That is a very empty feeling. I shot up to 6’3” my senior Year of high school and never played organized ball, but spent much time my last semester practicing one and two handed dunks, which when I traveled through South America, was rarely seen, so I was treated like a celebrity on playgrounds. About a decade later I was back in the USA with a bunch of high school and college kids who were dunkaholics. I got a steal on a fast break and wanted to show them the old man still had it but the legs just didn’t respond. I realized my hand was not far enough over the rim and laid it in. Then I felt the pain in my tendons and that was the signal from God to stop.
Spud use to play basketball with me and my brothers in Dallas Texas. At that time he couldn’t play worth squat, he spent nights with my family and was best friends with my baby brother. He was dealing with social issues at that time which is why we let him sleep over many times. Who would have ever guessed that he would become who he is today. I’m proud of you Spud, This is Eric Overton’s big brother, by the way Eric passed away a few years ago.
Spud was a hero of mine growing up and I still look up to him. He proved that whatever anybody else labeled you didn’t have to follow you through life.
Yea u can actually hear the trampoline "bounce" or whatever when he first jumps! For those of you who haven't seen Spud in action go watch the NBA Dunk Contest he won!! Truly incredible
Right!!!! Not to mention he went up so easy back in 86 u can see how worked to get up to the rim and now at 60 he does it with ease 🤦🏿🤦🏿 but still a legend though
It always amazes me how no matter how old these guys are, you can immediately see that their muscle memory is still there and their comfort with the ball is on another level
@@Andre_Jordan Read the comments my man. A lot of these people think he actually jumped 40+ inches and did a two handed pump dunk with no warm up in dress clothes. They are talking about the way he went up and dunked so the dunk is definitely included in the conversation.
Especially when you considering the PED's used today, along with HGH and these testosterone elixirs that replace all the hard work and dedication that all the "OG's" like Spud and others use to put in.....
@MUFC I do hear soccer names and I understand it's your favorite sport. Everyone has a right to choose, but Muhammad Ali, Sir Lawrence Taylor, Joe Montana, Tom Brady, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Henry Aaron, Mike Trout, Wayne Gretsky, Tiger Woods, Serena Williams; Household names❗Global Icons❗Universally Known❗World Renowned❗ Question? "*Do They Play Soccer*"????? 🤔▪
They lowered the rim when they panned over to him. The below filming up shot gives the illusion that the subject higher than it is and I am being such a tool bag right now but I LOVE the writing of the clip. Great video
Obviously he jumped on a trampoline but still no loss of respect, spudd webb is a legend. Time eventually takes away everyone's physical talents. That doesn't take away from his greatness though.
That's no "trampoline" he still has hops and his team saw it up close and personal, don't low rate the guy for doing what has come natural to him for doing it for so long, give him his props and celebrate that he's still here to show younger players how to get it done
@@AveMcree I suggest you look at the 1986 Slam Dunk contest. Better yet let me show you the hops Spud Webb has. Any spectacular dunks you have seen since then we're all fashioned after him, Dr J., MJ, and others from the 80's thru early 2000 with Kobe and Vince Carter. Show respect to those who did it first!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-y4zWLagc-14.html
The most impressive Spud Webb dunk came in late 1983...North Carolina State against Houston in the kickoff game for the college season of 83-84. Spud dunked right over Akeem Olajuwon. Amazing athlete. Must be video of that dunk somewhere.
When I was a kid, Spud used to come to summer basketball camp at Arkansas State University. He’d talk to us and put on a little show. I still remember him standing in front of the basket, taking one step and jumping off both feet and slamming it with two hands. Sounded like thunder…I thought the goal was going to come down. He was freakishly strong for his size. Good memories.
Joseph Cantu HOW DO U KNOW ITS FAKE...U ARE PROBABLY RIGHT, BECAUSE IT DIDNT SEEM LIKE SPUD USED ANY EFFORT TO GET UP THAT HIGH....HOWEVER, SPUD WAS A GREAT DUNKER IN HIS DAY......THX FOR COMMENTING...
+Joe Johnson I mean I don't know 100% but the angle of the camera and the way he effortlessly floated up definitely indicates a stepping stool of some sort. no doubt he is a beast but another tell tale sign was the horrible acting by the players trying to antagonize spudd.
Joseph Cantu I HEAR U....U ARE RIGHT, IT DIDNT SEEM LIKE HE USED MUCH EFFORT TO JUMP HIGH ENOUGH TO DUNK....HOWEVER, ONE WOULD THINK THAT HE COULD STILL DUNK AT 47...47 IS NOT THAT OLD....IN FACT, IF HE REALLY CANT DUNK ANY MORE AT 47, THEN THAT SHOWS US HOW AGE CORRODES ALL OF OUR YOUTHFUL ABILITIES....THATS SCARY....LOL....
+Joe Johnson well this is actually a perfect parallel but Tony hawk just turned 47 a few weeks ago and on his birthday did a 900. which even for young guys is crazy.
Not being a hater but he used something like a spring board to give him that additional lift. He slowly dribbled and barely bent his knees and was able to do a two-handed dunk. Back in the day, he needed all the energy he could get to be able to dunk. He never jogged and just flew like superman to dunk. However, he was great and an inspiration to all average height players.
I had a spud Webb poster in my room during high school. I’ll never forget his first reverse dunk in the contest bounced off his head he was so high. Great memories!
Google global truth project and read "the Present" to see the truth about life/death. Nothing is more important than checking it is true, especially pgs 1-4
It's irrelevant that he won a dunk contest. He can bearly move. This is soo obvious that he used something to jump off, it's almost a waste of time to even try explaining.
First time I saw Spud Webb was live at a preseason game in Wichita Kansas vs Seattle. There were WSU alumni on both teams and was an amazing experience for me as a kid. During the pregame shoot around he dunked the ball and the arena erupted. I had no clue who he was I legitimately thought he was a ball boy. We didn’t have the internet so learning of all the rookies was much different back then. As another short basketball player I was an instant fan of Spud. So much spring in his legs. Love you Spud
People are saying that there was a trampoline under him. Understand this, in order to be one of the chosen few too make it in a league like the NFL NBA MLB, you have to be a freak of nature. Therefore it doesn't surprise me at all that SPUD after all these years can still accomplish such a feat
okayyyyy but that does not take the fact that he is human which means his body goes through the same physiological effects that comes with aging just like everyone else, which means he will loose the ability, to move, jump, lift like he use to. By the age of 50 you lose up to 15-30% of the muscle you had when you were 20 that is a proven fact. NOT to mention the dunk is fake you can tell by the camera angle and the way he dunked was not a natural position
You can HEAR him hitting the trampoline. And for those that say he could dunk 25 years ago, why not now... 25 years ago he never got that kind of elevation double pump action. Back then he barely eased it over the rim AT THE HEIGHT OF HIS ATHLETIC PROWESS. No way in hell this is real. Look for videos of Michael Jordan dunking NOWADAYS. They're the same age, Jordan is a foot taller, greatest dunker in history, and Jordan can barely get it over the rim now. Yet Spud Webb is flying, wtf ever.
I agree. You can tell he jumped off of something. To do a double pump as he did, you need a bit more effort and more speed. He did it too effortlessly. Again, he jump off of something as the lift was not natural. But back in the day, he did get up high. He was way more impressive slam dunking than any 6-10 or 7'player. Check out the slam dunk contest video and you will see how high he gets. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fk-t2HnXfy4.html
Wtf I said MJ isn't the best dunker in history. VC is the best NBA dunker in history. Best dunkers in history are probably TDub, Air up There and K-Dobbs. You are not telling me who is the best, I've seen too much dunk vids, I know what Im saying, so stfu.
Mattia Santangelo He won the slam dunk contest. He often dunked during games around players far taller than him. It’s proven bone density thickens and muscle fibre becomes stronger in your 40’s. So tell me again why this isn’t real?
slapmyfunkybass because the average person who’s bones are “thicker and stronger” in his 40s didn’t have an entire competitive basketball career, with the amount of stress his knees have been through I’m surprised he can still even jog the way he did
Lol. He did that in his Sunday best too. Still have my spud web dunk contest poster in my collection. Used to be my favorite poster as a kid growing up.
@@edgibbs3229 We all know it's fake, using a trampoline or a box of some sort, but the way down can be a problem. At 47 and with some extra belly pounds anything can happen, but he managed it like a champ, that's all
I remember watching him get a rebound between 2 bigs, and it looked so fkn crazy. All three were in the air, bigs feet a few inches off the ground, and his feet were up near their knees, but all their hands were a little above the rim. I’m like, dayum, bruh don’t need a running start. 😬✌🏾✌🏾✌🏾
that was funny.but not as funny as reading he's one of the greatest dunkers due to his height. he wasn't a great dunkel, he just had one of the highest vertical jumps.
DaLeadBull Its just like jordan missing shots when he played against that kid with the Kobe bryant Jersey on........ No one can expect Jordan or Spud to be as great as they were when they were in their prime.
Lol Spud is still one of sports biggest freaks of nature...was a kid in 1986 ...still remember how marveled I was to see him do what he did ....Spud is a Legend!
it's crazy how people don't see it's supposed to be funny and a joke and how he cleary jumped off of something, not trying to offend anybody, but to me it's so obvious not even a question
I always wonder why millennials feel they need to address if something is fake or not?!... (everything is fake to New generation by the way) like fake ass, fake dunks, etc. just enjoy the bid stop pointing out the obvious...what do y'all Git from stating the obvious???????!!!!
Spud was a great player who beat the odds. This is a cute video and yes everyone knows its fake but still cool. You can even hear the springs of the trampoline at around 1:01. Thanks for the laugh Spud enjoy your day.
I remember meeting and talking to Spud Webb during an exhibition game back in the 80's. I was standing eye to eye with him thinking how does he do it. Best part was watching Dominique Wilkins throwing down monster dunks while standing right behind the basket, absolutely amazing.
