This is my first time showing video cameras on the channel, so the video might be really bad. I didn't know what music to add, if you don't like it you can mute the video.
I don't actually know if the camera is fake since the manufacturer(s) don't have a specific brand on these cameras. I assumed it was fake since the instructions don't really match with the camera, and using the camera is different from every other SQ camera I own. The description of the listing claimed that it was 1080p. In any case, I just want people to know that there are at least two forms of this camera that look the exact same, with very different video quality.
List of all differences (that I know of)
-It records in a 4:3 aspect ratio
-It can only record in 1280*960
-The light patterns are different from the original
-The Field of View (FOV) is a lot more narrow
-There is no toggle between video resolutions
I was browsing eBay and saw a listing that was selling an SQ11 camera for $5. I thought that it couldn't be a real SQ11 since those are around $10 so I decided to check it out.

For those of you interested in buying the SQ11 camera: I would suggest buying an SQ12. The video quality is a better than either of the "SQ11"s shown in this video, and the wide angle lens is better for these small cameras. Unfortunately, I do not have any actual source to where to buy these cameras, since I bought all of mine on eBay, and item listings change very frequently.

Another way to differentiate the fake from the real one is that the lens on the faulty one is welded, while on the real one it can be removed.

The fake model's 'camera clip 'appears to have a much better/additional swivel joint at it's base whereas the genuine one doesn't.

2:25 You have to wait 5 minutes because when you switch it on, it records because of the movement and then it records five minutes until it goes back to standby mode. The next time the camera records movement, the camera flashes, then records again for 5 minutes and goes back to standby Sorry for bad english i come from germany

It didn't record cause the LED didn't blink. I tried this with mine and I couldn't get the motion detection to work with my fingers. It's best to move the entire camera, but he did it too gently.

I am not sure what you are referring to. These cameras are completely offline. You can view the videos on your device if you have a micro SD card reader.

I have this camera and gor done reason I can't play the files I know its recording because the files into days the duration of it but mo matter which program I use they all say unable to play. Usually VLC Player will play anything. Any suggestions? Or did I just purchase a lemon

If the video files are corrupted, I guess my only suggestion would be to try a different sd card. Otherwise, I guess it is a lemon.

So i have one, that only knows 4:3 video and photo mode. red and blue light are never on at the same. but my ir lamps and motion detection are working. is that a fake or just an older model?

Sorry for a late reply, but I would consider that to be a fake model. Every SQ camera I have (that I would consider real) all record in 16:9 and have the 1080p mode (blue and red light on).

There should be a video feed if you connect the cable and have the camera on. Otherwise, I think there's something wrong with your camera.

I probably bought the 2 fake ones from wish... they drive me nut as the operations are so complicated especially switching between the ON/OFF and Mode buttons and checking the blue/red/flashing lights; I never manage to have the motion detection recording work. Now I decided to buy bigger battery camera.

The picture quality on SQ cameras aren't that great, I see them mainly as a fun novelty. Using the camera definitely has a learning curve. As for the motion detection, I've never been able to use it too.

When looking for night vision point the camera into your lens of your phone , with the camera on and when it hits the infrared lights you can see them on the camera phone screen for example, if you turn on the camera on your phone get the remote control of your telly pointed in the camera on your phone you will see the infrared light coming on same principle.

I bought 6 of them from good known Chinese eshop.So i suppose they are not fake. I tried to make them work as motion detection mode. I formated the micro SD as fat32 and 32g ,through the cam and i tried and formated disks through PC.No one of them worked. I power on the cams , in 720p and 1080p modes , i follow the procedure of 3s mode button in every compination : the 1st blink , then does nothing, Only continues video of 720 or 1080 with the power button on/off. The 2nd cam,seems older version , can't save he file TIME in the coresponded time.Always stays in preformat time of 2017...In motion detection does whatever it wants.It seem that function one, two times.Nothing more. The 3rd doesn't bother at all when i try to energise the motion detection . The same with the other 3.Plus that the night infrared vision doesn;t work at all at least one cam.Fake...

If you are buying an sq11 online, it is very difficult to tell the clone apart from the original. When I recieved the clone camera in the mail, I thought I recieved a real sq11. Some websites will tell you if you are buying the clone. The website(s) will state that you are buying a 480p sq11. If you are buying a 480p sq11, it usually means that you are buying the clone. I only realised mine was fake when looking at the video I recorded. The sq11 is made from plastic. Sorry if I didn't answer your question, as I am using google translate to try to understand what you are asking.

las dos son de plastico yo compre la fake :/ espero no te pase igual por k no sirve ni pa una mierda :/ son casi identicas la unica forma es verla andando si pesionas la tecla mode esta ara ciclos de 3 cambios primero azul lo presionas cambiara a violeta y si lo precionas otra ves se pondra rojo pero la fake pasa de azul a rojo cada ves k la presionas esto es por que no es 1080p solo es 720p una cagada :/ estoy muy triste....

Yo tuve la fortuna de comprar la original y en 150 mx pesos (7dls) tiene los 3 modos y lo que si me di cuenta es que la original solo está en color negro pienso que es la única forma de saber que tan genuina es, igual y estoy equivocado el autor del vídeo podría responder eso?

Different fakes probably have slight differences, as there's often multiple different fake versions of items unfortunately.

I don't recommend, the battery just Las 10 minutes after a full charge :/ and the optional modes for night vision, and motion don't work

Just purchased one of these and it didnt come in packaging like that at all. Is your cameras saving files as mov. files? This one is and i cant play any of them. I have updated VLC player, also updated Window Media Player classic, and installed fresh version of of Klite Codec Full package. Nothing will play. Any suggestions?

I think you might have some kind of knock off. All my SQ cameras record in .AVI files. Does it seem to record video? Like does it have the same light patterns as shown in the video?

@@doodlejkreviews Yeah, everything seems the same as far as function goes and it records files but in mov. Cant open them with anything. I even tried downloading quick time player and it would not open them either. I am not using an apple product though, windows 7. Thank you for responding btw.

@@ZenithClarity Have you tried a different SD card? I don't know if that would change anything since these cameras don't record in .MOV files. Also, have you tried the composite video cable to see if it works on a monitor/TV?

I have never gotten the motion detection feature to work on any SQ camera, but I did see a comment earlier suggesting that you need to wait 5 minutes before activating it.

I think I was too unclear in my response, the camera does record when in "motion detection" mode, but nothing obvious triggers the camera to start recording. Whenever I activate "motion detection", the camera doesn't detect motion to start recording, but rather it just records normally. As for the 5 minute segments, that is just how these cameras record. It's a feature called "cycle recording" and is present in many dash cams. When the SD card is full, it will automatically delete the oldest 5 minute segment in order to keep recording.

Sorry, I can't give a definite link to a real SQ11. I think almost all of the ones currently on eBay are clones. You should try getting some of the other SQ cameras. The fake SQ12 had better video quality than the fake SQ11.

I've got one real : Mine works only for a few seconds (about 10 to 40) and stops. What is the issue ? I charge the battery at each new attempt... I tried formating the card in NTFS it did not work at all. Then I formated it again in FAT32, it works again but only for about 10-40 seconds then it stops. I tried every sort of recording. I know the manual by heart... It works for taking pictures. For video only 720p work, never 1080 never motion detection and never more than about 40 seconds... ? I tested 2 different 32 go TF cards tested all OK... ??

I have a fake one(I thought it was genuine when purchased), and it's awful. It's clearly scaling up from 640x480, which is part of the reason it has an awful picture at 1280x960(exactly double in each dimension of 640x480) This is also a 4:3 ratio, not 16:9 like 1920x1080. Even for 640x480 it's terrible though, it's nowhere near the image of even the oldest VHS camcorders, or even any reversing cameras etc, for example. The majority of 640x480 webcams are likely also better. The fake I have can be used as a (terrible) webcam, at the real resolution of 640x480. The audio is basically worthless, and is recorded at 8khz. The IR LEDs seem to be fake.

I bought both of these cameras on eBay, so I can't really answer your question. I think the safest option is to buy a different camera in the SQ series, like the SQ8 or SQ12. As far as I know, there aren't any knock-offs of those cameras, but maybe they do exist.

The SQ11 doesn't have Wi-Fi. If you want a SQ camera that has Wi-Fi, get the SQ13.

Doodlejk i dont think so. I used have 2 sq8, the cheaper one records in lower resolution. And both work quite good for a long time. so I think both sq11 is real, just different version.

@@vnhealing - Yes, only five minutes with a full charge. I was informed perhaps my 32gb Class 10 memory card is not compatible with my SQ11 and maybe that is the problem. I just ordered a 4GB Class 6 card and hoping that will fix it and allow it to record for longer. I'll let ya know!

They are Infrared lights, on the front for the night vision. They are invisible to the human eye. The lights only show up on camera.

I don't think there are fakes and genuine... It appears some are rejects, never worked whilst others came through alright.... But even a good one can have the firmware go corrupt if the clicking procedures are not correct and the boot files are disturbed such as the TIME.TXT FILE.... It's a nightmare, there are other cameras the shape of totally round with led night ir....except there never was ir diodes inside the case... the sellers say switch on night vision in the app..... The only thing that does is desaturate the colour image to b/w but in the dark there is nothing because there never were diodes inside.... its all a fraud. Bad China men.....

I actually like the fake ones I wish it was 720 by 480 so it would be 16x9 but a for $2 baggers and choosers Here is something I would like to know is there a way to turn off the date time stamp? And is there a way to make the blinking LED light when it's recording stay on keep blinking I use these in rockets and I need positive confirmation the video is working before I walk away being able to see that the blue light is blinking still would be good positive confirmation

1) If you have a fake version of this camera, I don't remember if there are options for the time stamp. For most SQ cameras there should be a text (txt) file for the date/time that has a Y or N at the end (Y for timestamp, N for no timestamp). 2) There aren't any options to have the light be blinking when recording unfortunately. I have lost footage a few times because of this design decision.

With the fake, I do not have the option to switch the video and photos to 16:9 (other than cropping into the video). It only takes pictures and videos in 4:3. With the box, I was showing how it is a perfect replica of the real one. In this case, the box is showing inaccurate information.

@@doodlejkreviews Adapter. But yesterday i was charging cam about 3-4 hours. All the time the Red LED was light constantly. I didn't wait for it to change to blue and unplugged the wire. There written about 2-3 h in the instruction. But i have not charged cam fully before the first usage. Is it critical?

If you use an adapter it usually turns on the camera and starts recording video. This function is used to make the camera work as a dash cam. For my cameras, the red light flashes on and off while charging and is constantly on when fully charged. I don't think you have damaged the camera. All electronics recommend charging it for multiple hours before first use.

What are you using to charge the camera, a wall adapter or a usb port on a computer? Generally, the camera will auto record if it is given power from a wall adapter. If that doesn't work, try to reset the camera with the reset hole on the side. Otherwise, I think you may have received a faulty camera.

In your description you state that you're assuming one is fake and the other is real. I am wondering why you are making this claim considering the quality of Chinese goods and the quality control that are instituted by most Chinese manufacturers. I just bought one on Amazon for $23 and "assume" it is real as it is sold by Amazon. It came in one of the boxes you show in your video and when I opened the box it was Blue. So are you saying that Amazon is selling fake goods?

To be clear, I just assume that what I have received is fake due to the false marketing regarding the listing. On the listing, it states that the camera records in 1080p with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Since the blue one records at 1280*960 a 4:3 aspect ratio, which also has no option to change the resolution. It doesn't even follow the instructions provided with the camera. With all these false claims, I assume it's a clone of the black camera that does provide a 1080p, 16:9 aspect ratio. I don't know what arrived to you from Amazon, but I don't fully understand Amazon's structure. I thought that Amazon accepts goods from sellers, stores it in their warehouse, and ships it to people when they buy it. From my understanding, it's not that Amazon is selling fake goods, but rather the sellers are selling the goods. Sorry for a late response, I just never check this channel.

This probably means either you don't have an SD card inserted, or it's incompatible - eg: capacity too high, formatted to wrong file type(should probably be FAT or FAT32), etc. Here's some notes I wrote for myself when testing out a fake one: power button=hold to turn it on, or off blue led=meant to be '720p', but must be '1080p' video - which is actually 1280x960(almost certainly scaled up from 640x480) press power button briefly to record=led turns OFF but is recording press again=stops recording, led lights again tap mode(M) button: red LED only=each tap of power button=photo=1280x960 Meant to have another mode = red&blue LEDs together=1080p, BUT DOESN'T WORK=only shows blue OR red, not both DOESNT WORK ON MINE=almost certainly fake 'leds'=night vision(using ir leds)=after set 720/1080=hold power button 2 secs, after let go it blinks 3 times. timestamp=change Y to N in time.txt to turn off timestamp, or change date etc to match what actually is. --- blinking blue/red, then quickly turns off = means no SD card inserted

At this point, they are being sold for even less, I bought this blue fake for $5, and most recently, I was able to buy one for ~$0.60 from AliExpress.

@@doodlejkreviews They are completely worthless though as the recording quality is useless and the files get corrupted. The LiPo battery on mine shorted out and wouldn't charge after 2 days

I have the same experience. Here in the Czech Republic I bought SQ11, for recording FHD video. I received, for the price of $ 13 fakes with a resolution of 1280x960 4: 3 and a photo instead of 4032x3024 only 1280x720. !!I'm upset and I'm returning the camera for a complaint - it doesn't meet the parameters !! I'd rather go to Runcam 5 orange here with us it's for about $ 100 but it handles 4K video!

There's nothing wrong with good Chinese products, but people keep buying whatever's cheapest. Likewise western brands that rebadge whatever's cheapest from China. Even at cheap prices there's some quality bargains, there's a lot of excellent earphones for example. I really like the Uiisii HM7 earphones for example, which are about $us10 or less, sound very good, are very small, the cable is even mildly perfumed! DJI, Huawei etc are Chinese companies anyway, not to mention practically everything is made there.
