I’ve been very interested in this module. I am still trying to put together my first system so this has been very helpful as all you videos are. Thank you!
This is awesome video. You’re definitely a power user😊 One thing I wish you have explored is the CV inputs of ch. A,B,C &D. I own a Hermod, and I’m a little on the fence with it. But it really packs a lot in the module. A user needs to spend sometime with it to get the hang of it. These tips really show off it strengths. One thing I haven’t tried yet is to program sequences in my DAW, then record them into Hermod. I can be a little more creative on a standard midi controller vs the manual input or randomization on the Hermod. Another thing I need to dig into is the using the Hermod to control start/stop function of my DAW. I can do this using my DAW to control the start/stop in Hermod, but would like it the other way around. Anyway great video. Very much appreciated.
Welp, gonna necro the hell out of this video. So, just picked up a hermod for pennies and dropped it in my rig. Such a powerful lil beast. It was a toss up between this and O&Crime (they were the same price) and I'm happy with my decision after this video. Now to just memorize the hundreds of weird button combos lol.
Yes. It has midi to cv every which way possible. Do as long as your sampler has some kind of connectivity, it'll work. Cool points for hermod, it will connect to anything. USB, midi din, cv, doesn't matter. There are things about the workflow I don't care for, but I still consider it essential. That, plus Pam's, you can do anything.
thank you for this video. i decided to get a hermod to shut down abelton and logic. im gonna get it in 2 days. i don't have a digitakt but i have an op1. can i take some drum patterns from the op1 as well as you did with the digitakt?? is that possible to sequence the op1 with hermod to add it to my modular set up??
Great video, this is probably the only eurorack sequencer I'm interested in! Is it possibile with the USB input to play more than one note on the external device (OP-1 or any other MIDI keyboard) and have the Hermod distribute the CV for each note along its eight input? Ie, is it capable of doing polyphonic MIDI to CV conversion? Thank you 🙏
Quinn Djinn's Queer Gear - Sure, but the question was different: can I press 4 notes simultaneously on my MIDI keyboard, and it distributes each note "live" to the four CV outputs?
Quinn Djinn's Queer Gear - Exactly. I was pointing that out because Victor was talking about sequencing three *different* synths. That's obvious you could do that because of the eight tracks. It was less obvious if this tracks can be used for the external MIDI input polyphony.
Hi Victor, did you get this working as expected? It amuses me how a lot of folk misunderstand poly to multiple mono distribution. I had the same query a few weeks back about a plug in midi effect which does the same thing (Xhip Notelogic) and thought there's no way I'm asking that on a forum or within a comments section!! So I asked the developer and he was very helpful. I'm quite surprised it's not more common, such a creative and powerful way to play synths. My intial concept was to play multiple analog monosynths as a single polysynth with sligtly different settings on each. However, as I've gone the midi route (using midi-cv convertors for the analog stuff) it also lets me play multiple patches using polyphonic distribution on a Waldorf Blofeld in multitimbral mode. For anyone reading this who thinks that's easy, just set them to the same midi channel, is entirely missing the point! If you're handy with a soldering iron check out MidiGal by Midisizer for a fully hardware way of achieving this effect. It's the MidiDisp firmware option.
Nice video but you forgot to talk about the possibility for her mod to record external midi cc and than convert into a cv signal. Does her mod can do that ? Thank you !
Jade so chance is one effect that you can layer with others, chance and euclidean for example with recorded cv steps? What about clock division per track?
Hi Dawless, I was wondering if your impressions on the Hermod have changed? Do you still have it? I'm asking because on a previous video about hardware sequencers you complained about the pyramid not been reliable, with lots of bugs, and better on paper than in reality...But in this video, you said the Pyramid is one of your favorite ones...hence my confusion... I've recently got myself a Hermod and sometimes I love it and others I hate it. In particular, it bothers me the fact that it doesn't boot with the last project loaded and that very often it freezes, forcing me to re-start my whole case...
Yeah its a love hate relationship with Squarp. Imo its the best most featured packed sequencer for euro out there, but like you said, some times it freezes and theres a few "problems". I still think its an awesome piece for linear composition, not so much for nonlinear, which is how I prefer to use my Modular systems
Dawless Jammin' what do you mean by linear/non linear? Are you referring to the random/experimental/evolving or self patch nature of a eurorack system? As opposed to the traditional chronological song composition? If that’s the case I tend to agree although I’ve found the Hermod to work really well with quantised random patterns and the fact that keeps timing of many tracks at the same time helps to produce all of the things we like about eurorack...
I might still pick up a volca sample to have something easier to carry that I can stick samples off the 808 into so I don't need to own a bus to cart it to a show
Can you imagine how much cheaper Behringer eurorack modules would be?! Modular is vastly overpriced for what it is, which is completely understandable considering that it's develped mainly by small boutique companies. I wouldn't be surprised if Behringer developed a companion range of modules for the Neutron...
@@leftmono1016 the way to get started for cheap is to build from kits, personally I don't have space for eurorack in my tiny place but once I get more space I could get into building kits.
I love the simple fact you hit play on your drum machine and your modular sequencer starts from step 1. It takes me almost 3 patches with yarns, rene and tempi to do that and still not perfect. Question, does it accept (master) clock messages from ext instruments through the Midi In? Is it capable of distributing them in the system afterwards?
I love the depth of functionality of the thing but I just can't see myself menu diving for hours with that vintage nokia screen with one knob control for everything. It doesn't seem particularly fun or inspiring. Is there anything that has a good balance of depth and hands on control? A lot of the ones with a lot of physical tweakability are so basic.
agreed! really had high hopes for the Hermod but the workflow killed it for me personally. if Squarp was willing to add just a few additional features it really could help it to be more of a performance friendly sequencer. unfortunately they seem to be unwilling to add any additional features that users have suggested which is unfortunate :(
You could build a little construction with wire and install a rectangular magnifying glass above the display ;) I have some screw holes free in my 1U row above the Hermod...
This is a another example of impractical design from Squarp. Another waste of money just like the pyramid, totally impossible to fathom out. Impossibly microscopic screen. you need a computer with the manual on show all the time, where would you find the space for all the eurorack gear , It is totally unrealistic. I have a pyramid in the Shed, in its box . If someone comes and nicks it , be glad to see it go. J Horrobin
That size of the screen concerns me too. My eyesight isn't what it used to be (even with glasses) and I fear I wouldn't be able to see it. I got the BASTL Gramma, and the print on the case is so small, it's useless to me.
