So sad that our mass media shows murder & brutality for money💰 After watching tv show I feel like society is like masked Elite & Netflix is masked show organiser. So sad people produce & watch such shows, it degrades society & world 😢
I burst into tears when Ji young dropped her marble in front of her. Making that sacrifice for someone you hardly know broke my heart. I really hope he goes to find Ali's family and give them there share if they money.
@@niaonthego3442 she said she has no one to live for :( it broke me when she said it. I feel like she died thinking no one loved her or would miss her 💔
Its probably because the games really revealed their inner sides and survival instinct. Gi hun tho rash and hot tempered, was always compassionate and a happy go lucky kind of guy, as seen by how he tipped the horse betting counter lady, fed the stray cat and approached il nam happily from their first encounter. On the other hand, sang woo was intelligent and conscious which made him more calculative and selfish (as seen in the second, fourth and fifth game and how he killed saebyeok). Sang woo was also prideful (he lied to his mom that he was on a business trip and didnt tell her the truth even when he was comitting suicide. He also didnt help gi hun in the 2nd round and partnered ali in the 4th round instead because he thought gi hun was dumb.)
From the start sang- woo didn't have that quality. He was gaveup his friend from the second game. But gi-hun was improved his feelings for human beings.
the director actually said that the reason why gi-hun dyed his hair red was because it's suppose to represent his anger, they wanted him to dye his hair a color no one would expect him to even choose; more or less dye his hair in general.
Ohh damn, I thought maybe his hair was the same pink as the guards jump suits & that he was getting that syndrome where you take on the characteristics of your kidnappers. I thought this might symbolize him actually becoming one of them or something along those lines. Or his soul being gone.
Can anyone explain to me why the main character borrowed 10000 won from the banker at the end when he has 45 billion won in the bank? That scene just felt so random. That part didn't make any sense to me. 🤷♂️
This is a very bingeable series. But warning, don't start watching it at night otherwise you won't be able to fully binge all 9 hours of it in one go without sacrificing sleep.
My fav theory is this one: every main character died in the games resembling what they did while out in the real world. Deoksu dies falling down a bridge - like he jumped off running away from gangsters. Sangwoo tried committing suicide in ep 2 in the end he kills himself. Gihun swore on his mother life to the old man, his mother passed away. Ali took the money from his boss and ran, in the end he got played the same way, Sangwoo taking his marbles and leaving him.
@@Shejejjenwn_02 didnt say the squid game character was using iphone, just said a trivia about iphone, heres another one, korean dramas dont usually use apple products, they prefer their own brand like samsung
@@acedobleace Objection! In the game master's office, you literally can see a Mac computer. And other kdramas have put iPhones in the hands of antagonists too. I guess, your fun fact is a common myth.
All the character's death were already foreshadowed in Episode 2. Ali is eliminated because sang-woo took his marble the same as he took his boss money. Deok-su jumped on the bridge and was eliminated in the game by falling off the bridge. Sae-byeok die because she was stabbed on her neck same as she threatened someone with a knife on their throat. Sang-woo almost commit suicide in the bathtub and was eliminated from the game by killing himself. Also, the old man died from a brain tumor. Gi-hun swore on his mother's life, and his mother died in the end. Wow.
its sad to think that gi-hun's mother died with a broken heart thinking that her son abandoned her when he was just trying to win money to support both of them :(
One easter egg i noticed was when 001 and 456 met at a convenience store…if you look at the backround when both were talking you’ll notice the silver van which is used by transporting the players…
It’s becoming more common for korean shows to get multiple seasons. Stranger is a show I highly recommend and Sweet Home as well. I’m not 100% it’s getting a second season but the way it ended it seems so.

Lots. Lots of desperate people who think they have nothing to lose. I could never do something like this. No amount of money is worth more than my life or another imo
It is likely real. Underground games to allow a person a chance at freedom. Organ trafficking, powerful people abusing their power treating people like horses in a race. It happens in real life

@@docsnake he wasn’t the bad guy. It was the old dude. Sang woo was just a participant and wouldn’t be considered the villain, he is the antagonist if anything.
Something i would say about the ending as well is that it's paralleled to the birth of his daughter. Gi-Hun to me epitomes the good in humanity and such as he missed the birth of his daughter because of someone that was dying in the factory he was working at, he now is giving up seeing his daughter to save these people from the squid game. Life and death, you can't have one without the other and ultimately I feel like that's what this fantastic show comes down to.
also reminds you that even with all the prize money gi was depressed bc it's like he said before punching his daughters step father you think money solves everything ! but i think he should of just went on the plane due to the fact that he himself wasn't forced to come to play the games and wanted to see his little girl
What got me pretty hard was Sang-Woo spending the majority of the season spending time with Ali, and taking Ali under his wing, only to take advantage of Ali's trust in Sang-Woo. I get why Sang-Woo did it, I get where it makes sense narratively, and it makes sense for a person to betray a "friend" if self preservation is on the line, but it hurt to see. Episode 6 was definitely a huge turning point for the narrative of this series. It's the episode that easily fucked me up the most.
Agreed. That and the constant swapping between Sang-Woo and Ali's whole interaction, aswell as Gi-hun and Oh ll-nam. Going for betrayal to "dementia ridden heartache" was really rough. Seeing Gi-hun's face change and tear up every time he lied about Even or Odd was really hard to watch in contrast to how difficult it was to grasp Sang-Woo betraying Ali after everything they'd done together. It was so well done. I don't cry when watching things but that just about got me.
I saw it as sang woo killed himself because he needed the money for his mom and knew that the main guy would take care of her. He rather die and have his mom taken care of then both of them going out to the same lives. Sang woo was determined to win for his mom
Sang woo put his mom in that position in the first place by putting her assets as collateral without her knowledge. Also making risky investments for his clients behind their back and losing all of the money. He had a cush job, good reputation, and his greed still took over him. I think his mom was definitely a motivating factor, but his own selfishness and greed was also a huge reason for the way he played.
@@SuperShawnta1 the died contestant family get the money IF the living contestant decided to leave the game. But they are come back to continue the games, so the winner get the money.
@@SuperShawnta1 no the family doesn’t. The family of the dead ones would only get money if and only if they stopped playing the game. But most came back so they don’t get money
Its crazy that when he says he's coming after them they say "just get on that plane" implying they have been tracking his every move since he left the game. I wasn't even sure if there would be a season 2... the final scene works as both a satisfying ending as well as a cliffhanger. It leaves things open ended but completes his emotional journey which is just another credit to the talented writing team
Before that last episode I was thinking there’s no possible way that they could make another season but after how it ended, they really did a great job of leaving us with so many questions like you said. And it also makes me think maybe the korean police guy survived and maybe him and player 456 team up to try and take this whole shit down. They really do have enough still going on to make a season 2 which is so fucken impressive if you really think about it. Kudos to the writing team for sure!!
San woo finally get some money to his mother but will never see her again. He's very dertmine guy. The only person I should hate is the foolish cult leader who bully people and start up fights for fun
What I didnt understand is why they allowed Sang-woo to kill Sae-Byeok, then Gi-Hun lunges for Sae-Byeok and they stop him. The whole game they emphasize how they want it to be fair, but there are tons and tons of examples of where they change the rules on a whim. Its OK to kill other players one minute, then the next its not allowed. Little things like this completely ruined it for me, maybe it was just really bad subtitles or something but a lot of the writing felt lazy or didn't even make sense.
@@Brawlypython244 well got damn, the mere idea of that is actually great. I’m all for a hitman level based on this series, because I know the level would be massive and look great.

Again with this "literally" bs. It's so sad when people use words out of popularity instead of meaning. Bizarre that americans took english and totally twisted definitions and shit based on emotion, and the rest of the world wants to seem american.
I think we can all learn an important lesson from this game. We should NEVER choose money over the important things. This guy literally gave his whole life into it just so he get can get money but in the end it really meant nothing to him. He never got to see his mom in her last few days.
That tugged at my heart. Unfortunately, I found my mom dead in her home. I think a part of me has blocked it out since. I was away on an internship when she passed away. And to this day don't know how long she was laying there gone. So I guess in a way I was trying to earn money to and improve our situation. IDK, but it got me. 😥
The part where they bet on whether "anyone" will help the homeless man on the street, at the end -- I thought for sure that the main character himself would go down and help him, just before time ran out. I mean, they did say "ANYone".....
By him standing there doing nothing, he was proving the point of the old man. It wasn't until he saw the cop car show up with the only person to look at the homeless person, did he realize the moral of the entire thing.
That would’ve proved the old mans point in a way. He would’ve helped the guy... just to win the bet? Gi-Hun’s whole philosophy is believing in humanity. If what he believed was true, then someone out there will help him no matter what.
I watched this yesterday when I went for an overnight with a couple friends. We watched because we just wanted something short to watch while we eat and by cliffhanger of episode 4 with the tug of war game, it was when we realized that we won't be sleeping early
What makes this horrific is the fact this could be a real thing in the future. This isnt an anime or anything fake, this is what real desperate people in a room fighting for money to win genuinely looks like. Look guys I know it's been around forever I meant it would be a more dangerous future because this could possibly be a growing thing later on, like genuine shows where it's out to the public type shit and will be tolerated. I appreciate the likes though, didnt expect that lol
It exists now, maybe not so blatantly but look at people like Bernie Madoff stealing billions from people and ruining lives. Putin, Trump, Epstein - they're all VIP guests of the Squid Game. Cops shooting unarmed people on the streets, the future is now.
The worst thing about this show, and I'm sure many will agree, was the damn VIPs and their corny ass lines in English. I swear, those people had too much screen time for what added very little value to the show.
Kinda like how us, the viewers, don't add much to the show except for our annoying and baseless opinions for those risking their lives? The symbolism in this show was insane
I loved the flow of Gi-Hun's character. He was a compassionate protagonist but he didn't let the story move him, which we expected that he should since it's a survival game and we need him to at least be ruthless to win. Instead, he was the one who kept lowering his walls so others can come in. He made friends with Sae-Byeok (the one who reminded Gi-Hun who he really is), was the first one to befriend Il-Nam (which in return made him on his side and provided him the luck the game required), and ultimately brought back Sang-Woo his conscience (ultimately letting him win). One scene I liked is that one night Gi-Hun convinced Deok-Su to stop the second murdering spree just because he was afraid of the threat he was in. I'm excited to see how his character goes for the later seasons. He's still compassionate, but brought a part of Il-Nam's wisdom.
@@synystyr11 Maybe he meant the part where Gi-hun was going to take advantage of Sang-Woo who was falling asleep to kill him but Sae-Byeok stopped him by telling him that "he's not like that". I could be wrong but I can recall that x)
he also let a random old guy "confidently take charge of his life" and take the no. 1 spot instead in the end it paid off for him on the bridge game :D
Exactly, also because apparently his disappearance was quite sudden! There is also the fact that apparently he didn't have any money to pay for rent, so it doesn't seem like he has been doing it for a while to gain monetary compensation. It gives question on why he was given such trust in organizing everything
In the scene where he goes through the records, Junho finds out that his brother was the winner of the squid game on some 20xx year. So it's possible the winners are later recruited for some major role if they can be trusted? If he really won the game what happened to all that money making him live in a small apartment where he can't even pay his rent (this is what Junho saw when he went looking for him) I assume that's why he joined for the money but as the Front man. I really hope Gihun and Junho team up in next season!
Jun-Ho the true MVP imo. Most badass performance in terms of what he was doing. Him surviving makes sense too when you really think about it, the fact his brother was the leader, shot him in the shoulder, no body was shown, even with his little dialogue, he clearly cares about his brother, now that he knows his brother is running this hell hole. I’m sure he wants nothing more than to stop him himself, hence why he possibly didn’t tell the cops.
@@meandnature6452 Honestly it all depends if a season 2 is confirmed, if it is, not sure what would happen with the messages but I feel his phone should be trackable from the call alone, the Chief would kinda be a fool to not at least track the phone after a frantic call like that, but we'll have to see I guess
Episode 6 was so mf sad. I felt so bad for Ali man he was such a cool guy. As for the ending I’m a little pissed that Sae-Byeok died especially because of Ji-Yeongs sacrifice but it was still a GREAT show. I don’t usually watch shows but I loved this.
I think Ali is alive because we didnt actually see him being shot just like Il Nam, the old man. I think he was sent home or something since he was cheated by Sang Woo in the marble game. Remember that Front man said that the game should always be fair for the players.
I just realised that the show foreshadows Sangwoos true nature when the police tell his mother that he is guilty of embezzlement, fraud etc, basically him using others for his own gain(Ali) and hiding his feelings
It also shows it in the game when they first come together as a group and they play the sugar shape game. He explains to them that you don’t want to put all of your eggs in one basket giving them an example of the stock market that he “had experience” with and sends them their separate ways. He was in debt because of stock fraud so for him to use that experience with his friends was a huge red flag.
But! We also see a true relationship forming. I think he tried but ultimately lost. He gave Ali bus money, let him use his phone and bought him food, (not that these are huge irl but are shown to us in the movie), tells him to hide his hand and then has a heart to heart after which asks Ali to call him Hyung. He wanted to make it out with Ali, he immediately chose him to partner with over his older friend. Even though Ali is disadvantaged by being an immigrant and not knowing the game and being physically disabled. It’s not a good choice unless you KNOW the next game is about manipulation. His desperation and greed got the better of him which we see earlier on. His shame from being a embezzler even though his community brags about Seoul university to the point he tells gi hun to stop. They get to a point where they know only one person can win. I don’t think he used Ali (the entire time) in that sense, but do think he was calculated and selfish. I mean he out his mums house and livelihood up for collateral. Edit: in addition, he thought he deserved the money more than anyone especially Ali due to the betrayal. Ali had a child and was good natured. Sang woo already SPENT the money he stole. He lived out that life, he didn’t need it only to keep himself from jail. And he didn’t let gi hun win because he thought gi hun deserved it, it was because he wanted his mum taken care of. Even if he got the money, he’d still face charges and reputation ruined.
@@AndSoWeLaughed wow!! Very nice and good written essay I love the “in addition” part it really adds up everything thank you for that convulsion to help everyone who needs help of confusion. See you have sense I really appreciate you for sharing your personal time to write this❤️❤️
The scene where Ali was walking around and doing what Sangwoo told him and after when Sangwoo gave the marbles... I exploded in tears. I knew he was going to deceive him, and i was angry for Ali to trust him.. But if it was me, I would do the same.... Big lesson- never trust people blindly, you don’t know what they have in their mind...
Ngl, I hated that ending. He literally was about to board a plane to see his daughter & passed on it because of some heroic endeavor he so desperately felt the need to insert himself back into. Like if you won, you simply won. He already felt guilty for not being there for his mom in the end, & is making the same mistake again when his daughter should be top priority in his life now. Smh what did y’all think tho?
Same… I think he didn’t do enough justice to the families of his deceased friends, he was supposed to take care of the girl’s brother, the Islamic guy wife and child and to pay the glasses guy debt to help her mother… yet he ended up in depression and didn’t do shit in a YEAR
I think after what he went through in the Squid Game he’d just become a broken human with his humanity practically shattered (understandably) and after seeing someone else becoming recruited it triggered him hardcore and all he has left is vengeance towards all those running the game
I share the same sentiments. Gambling the relationships of his loved ones; abandoning his daughter all over again just to let her down once again Gi-hun is seemingly doing the same thing number 1 said he did during the "marble game" forgetting his son's birthday not buying him a gift . Before boarding the plane he promises his daughter that he has a gift for her he won't deliver.
Yes that's what I thought! I expected him to get Cheol and at least try to find the mother, and also make Sangwoo's mum financial stable but I did think all the way through the season that Ilnam was Gihyun's father, so if that is true the ending makes sense because he's following in his crappy father's footsteps.
If you go back to the scene where he talks to his ex-wife, you'll find out his morals. He missed his daughter's birth because he wanted to save his coworkers life, but the coworker died anyway. At the end, he has another opportunity to save more lives, at the cost of abandoning his daughter. His daughter will be fine, he chooses to save the people who are in danger.
I just wish the games had been more creative. Most of them were pretty straightforward and did not require much thinking/strategy. They were mostly luck-based and majority of the times, the only advantage is when u have prior knowledge of the game
Another thing I don't see a lot of people talking about is how Gi-hun swore on his mother that he wouldn't ask Sae-byeok about his money and still did and at the end his mother actually died.
That death hit so hard, the fact that he was so emotionally broken at the end that he couldn’t even process it. He just lies down beside her and cries. He just witnessed multiple of his friends died, was forced to basically kill his childhood friends, just spent days going through hell and to top it all off he causes some of them.
Can anyone explain to me why the main character borrowed 10000 won from the banker at the end when he has 45 billion won in the bank? That scene just felt so random. That part didn't make any sense to me. 🤷♂️
Kurumi ちゃん it’s because he feels guilty, he thinks that that’s all blood money that he doesn’t deserve and shouldn’t use. It’s because of what he had to do to get it, he had to kill multiple people, watch hundreds die, beat and stab a childhood friend and watch new friends get killed. He doesn’t feel like he deserves the money nor should he use it.
Remember when Gi-hun was let back into the real world after the first game and Sae-byeok was with him too. He swore on his mom that he wouldn’t hassle her for pickpocketing him if she untied him. And he ended up hassling her for doing it. Fast forward and his mom dies. Coincidence?
Now that many people know the "strategy" for tug-of war. The counter strategy is to not pull so hard at the first 10 secs, then go 1-2 steps forwards to let them fall, then quickly pull for the win
to me, this whole show was extremely from a phycological perspective, seeing the people's minds evolve, to more soulless, then to more caring was insane and also the fact on how realistic it was for the people desperate for the money and all the backstabbing, personally i would rate this show 9/10 because it keeps you on your toes the whole time and is incredibly interesting.
The series was really good the only bad thing was the acting of the VIPs it was terrible in comparison to the Korean actors hope next season they bring better actors as foreigners
I feel like this could’ve been on purpose. It’s like if the VIPs represent our government and the players are the people struggling in society and the government just watches as people risk their lives doing whatever it takes to be successful. The VIPs are already rich and have nothing better to do besides crack stupid jokes with their rich friends while being entertained by the struggles of the lower class. The VIPs represent our government in today’s society. Just a little theory
Jun-ho is probably alive because if his already dead then they would show the body and also he's the front man's brother he wouldn't kill his brother like that, infact he only shot him in the arm so it's possible for him to survive.
i think so too! in that scene where the Front Man was looking at himself in the mirror, he sees Jun-ho looking back at him, and they both have shoulder wounds that are at the same spot on the mirror (FM: right shoulder, JH: left shoulder). so maybe Front Man might think, if i survived this shot, my brother would too...?
Yes of course. Considering how most of korean dramas get directed. There's 90% out of 100 that he's not dead and may end up as a 3rd party or vip in the game

The director claims that the series was planned since 2010. To me, the series hit so much to the viewers when they chose to release it post COVID as everyone would definitely relates to the contestants being desperate for money and would do anything just to survive.
I loved how the writers basically held a mirror in front of society. I also loved the character development and background stories for both the “villains” and the “heroes”. In my opinion the most heartbreaking death was the pickpocket. It was just unfortunate what happened to her but that sleazy Sang Woo had to put the nail in the coffin lol. I tested up when she made him promise to look after her brother after knowing she wasn’t going to make it.
First of all, I've started watching it because it was like all over my recommendation. I thought it was just some creepy show, but after I started watching I got hooked instantly. It shows, how much humanity actually can be like. It gave me a lot of emotions inside, and chills. I actually cried during these episodes. I never cry, during anything, that's supposed to be sad. But this one hit me in a different way which hit my heart. I can't describe my love for this series. I'm so happy, I watched this.
I don't think Gi-Hun really cared about the Squid Games continuing on until that phone call. If he did, why didn't he call the number as soon as he got hold of the business card. Instead he called them while boarding his flight to LA. I think it's due to his dazed and confused personality, and changing his hair to red was his way of turning that corner and being more proactive in his life. Notice during the phone call, his temperament was victim mentality, then when the Squid games employee knew of his player # and location, he was reminded how out of control he was in his life and decided to turn around and do something about it for the good of the people.
yea, he is growing constantly, after the games he only thinks about his family and people close to him(during the games he say he wants to use the money for HIS family), after a while he thinks about the people there, it sort of contradicts with his 2 initial goal which shows he grown and live to go agaisnt il nams idea by doing good
SPOILERS - Personally, I think when Oh Il-nam died, Gi-hun thought the game would die with him since he was the mastermind behind it all. So, when he realized the game was still continuing, he probably felt a surge of all the ptsd laying dormant inside him for a whole year and battled with himself on what he was going to do about the phone call once he took the new business card. Hence the hesitation to call (and I do think he wanted to be a better dad more than destroying the game - at first- until he takes a bit of time to decide for himself and ends up choosing the game once more) During the initial call, he is signing up for the next game (in order to stop it once in for all, maybe from the inside somehow) and once they said his number, he was reminded of who he was and what he represented during the game and that was the mentality he almost instantly re-personified.
Can anyone explain to me why the main character borrowed 10000 won from the banker at the end when he has 45 billion won in the bank? That scene just felt so random. That part didn't make any sense to me. 🤷♂️
I don't think every series needs Europeans and Western version. The Korean version was fantastic and I guarantee you won't get the same passion or level of detail and performance if given to an American director. I'm still waiting to see something live up to Parasite from an American director in the same genre.
I think if it were a western/American game there were be adding more complexity of race and possibly gender/sexual orientation issues. But I agree we do not need to westernize everything
The creator of the video is saying that he wants to see the American games implemented into the series in order to explain and show the origin since the games are international in the show. Are you saying that you wouldn't like to see that because it would ruin the series?
I love the idea that the police officer is a alive and would potentially somehow meet up with the protagonist to take down the Squid Game operation. Love the take of Gi-Hun’s motives and decision-making, gréât analysis video!
Jun-Ho will come back in Season 2 if there is one I believe, if Gi-Hun does go back and try and overthrow, I guarantee Jun-Ho will also be participating in the game, absolutely love the idea of that
I love that idea too and I hope it comes into fruition. In episode 2, there was a moment of silence after Gi-Hun said to the cop “Why would you think that I would be useful to you or anybody else?” So I feel in season 2, the cop is going to need Gi-Hun as proof the games exist since he got shot and fell into the water with his phone which means no more evidence.. and Gi-Hun will be willing to help the cop this time because he wants to stop the games and save others from dying.
I think netflix was probably setting up the possibility for other country versions of squid game, as they have done with many other shows! I also hope that if they go the route you were saying for season 2, with gi-hun trying to stop the games, i hope they still incorporate the actual games with the new set of contestants, splitting between the two plotlines like this season, as the games are the most interesting part of the show.
For next time, I would recommend not putting the major spoiler directly in the thumbnail like that. As someone who is both subscribed to you and loves your content and wanted to go into this blind, I got spoiled by this due to looking for other content from other RU-vidrs and having the mystery of this new show ruined instantly. Either create a different eye-catching thumbnail that doesn’t show or imply direct spoilers before people even open the video or just put it in there but pixel blurred out like you’ve done before in other major spoiler videos.
@@ajaini1709 The only reason Sang Woo was in the game was becuase he got greedy he had no humanity from the start, he just got worse masking it as the games went on.
I had the feeling about player 001 from the start. He was eager to play the green light, red light, when he panicked during the blackout they stopped the riot, he gave amazing pointers for the tug of war, and lastly the marble game, which he let Gi-hun win by acting senile and gave the last piece of his marble. All in all, what a fantastic series! Here's hoping for season 2!
It was also funny to realize that he was in front of a heart center when the van arrived for the second rerun of the game. From there on I became suspicious because I thought what he had was a brain tumor 😂😂 When his role was revealed, I laughed because it made sense.. he might really needed that heart check up
True. At first, I was kind of ???? when he was a bit TOO senile during the game. Yes, he had dementia, and yes he was weak and forgets things like his name but not THAT much. I mean you can still talk to him clearly. But not on that scene. I thought it was a plot hole or something.
@@vanesashii I thought he was just acting like he has dementia. You can clearly see that in the marbles game. He acted like he forgot what he said to see if Gi Hon would lie to him in order to win.

Btw the story closest to this serie would be As The Gods Will (it's a death game with kids game, the prize is becoming the next god). The genre of battle royal/death game is really popular so you could find a lot of different titles other than Deadman Wonderland, Alice in Wonderland or Darwin's Game: Real Account, Mirrai Nikki, Danganronpa, King's Game, Tomodachi Game, Liar Game, Doubt/Judge or Jinrou Game (for the classics).
I must admit I was skeptical when Squid Game was first recommended to me. I was worried about possible parallels between the series and the Saw movies, but wow was I happily mistaken! The whole story is just so well thought out and the progression of each game is so well designed. Early on I had a feeling they were designed to leave only one winner, but I became so attached to the characters that I wished I was wrong. The marble game was soul crushing. Early in the episode I had an inclining that the pairs would be playing against one another, but when it actually happened I was horrified. The relationships the players had built up until that point were instantly undone, and watching the game wondering which member of each pair would prevail was just harrowing. The writing of this series is just so superb that you can't help but be invested in it all the way through.
So true, thank you for putting it into words! The marbles game was so harrowing, and when they announced that the pairs would be competing against eachother my heart just dropped. It was so sad, and that's what made it even worse than the other games.
The cop story is what made it for me... he was a bad ass. And I want to know the story on how his brother because the front man after winning. Can't wait for season 2
@@Nina-856 Not saying the "games" never end, I'm saying THAT game never ends. Look at The Front Man, he's a previous winner, which means he won a LOT of money, but what is he doing with it? You also have a question of how well do "ideals" hold up to reality. Consider: Gi-Hun could stop the NEXT game by giving all his money to the participants, but then he has nothing and the "games" will continue. The world is not simple, man is not TRULY "good" or "evil", but most are a combination of the two and even if any ONE man may be "good" another will be "evil". In the first game, Gi_hun had nothing, so we don't blame him for not changing the world. Il-nam OTOH is rich, so why does he subject people to the Squid Game? Now Gi-Hun is rich, so what does he do NOW?
I did not because there were too many clues. He knew way too much. An they eliminated him right before the glass bridge because the did not want him to slip and break a hip.
@@ajaycbaby8837 I'm not sure about that though as they let him do the tug of war. I think he legitimately liked the MC so he sacrificed his "gameplay" because he rather see how his "friend" does in the game. The old guy is seen as the bad guy for many, but in reality he didn't do anything wrong. He gave people multiple choices to play or not, and his commentary about happiness was spot on. The contestants are just as miserable as the rich guys watching the game (the gay rich guy even just left the game because it didn't interest him even though he had everything he could have wanted). The happiest people in the show were the ones who did not worry about what they could have or didn't have, but those who were focused on the present. There was a hint to this theme in the recruitment game, as people got so invested in the game they even forgot about the money for a second and were most excited to try and slap the recruiter. People are essentially happiest when working towards a goal.
If you thought this was good then watch: The man from nowhere, A Violent Prosecutor, A Hard Day, New World,Nameless Gangster, No Tears for the Dead, The Divine Move, Hwayi A Monster Boy,A Dirty Carnival, Night in Paradise, Witch, and then to change it up: The way home :)
I knew it, the old man is the one hosting the games, I noticed when he climb on the bunk beds and he was shouting to stop them from killing each other, the Front Man obeyed him Theory from tiktok: Gi-Hun might be the Old man's son 😲
nice catch. I remember thinking something like “oh okay, now the frontman had enough drama” as in he somehow felt bad for the old man. Which is of course contrary to the frontmans character. Really love that they had some hints for the twist.
@@MauriceGucci True, and the old man's timing to stop the game is somehow like protecting Gi-hun as they were about to face Deok-Su's team, they could be killed since that guy is the strongest.
@@Lulu-xl5cm probably part of his "game" and his fun, to see how many would return. now that i think about it, it's no coincidence that he ran into gihun again and told him that he's going back to the game. i bet he knew that gihun would end up coming back, or was willing to take that chance.
I wish I would have listened to everybody's warning on here and not binge this at night time because I ended up sacrificing my whole night's sleep as I was captivated by this series. At first you're drawn in by the sheer violence and brutality but as the series progresses you end up getting invested in the remaining characters and the sheer emotional toll that this game is taking on all of them. I don't often get addicted to any Netflix series but this one definitely had me captivated
did anyone else get really sad from the first two deaths? the 1st boy to get shot seemed really innocent/childish to be in the game, and his friend's death was sad too because he was in denial thinking he was just being dramatic before getting shot seconds later
I mean it reached #1 in all countries so obviously they won’t pass up on the opportunity to make even more money. U don’t have to worry, there will 100% be a second season
With the success of this, you can GUARANTEE there will be! What do the producers of this series and the participants of the game have in common?? They love the idea of make a ton of money...
Watched it all yesterday, it reminded me of The Platform. Especially when players had to rely on each other for their (short term) survival. Each of them could drastically effect the other.
I had a feeling that old guy didn't die, especially since we didn't see him die. I pictured in my mind him waking into a door while the guard just shot the wall to make him think he died, good guess I assume.
Small Correction: they didn’t all return after voting to leave. Something like 20 of the people decided not to return and stayed in the real world, while the rest did return out of their own decision to risk it for the money.
@@katleen1022 exactly I’m sure those people will play some kind of a role. For instance, the cop knows the whereabouts to the island. And he can track down those witnesses to testify with him and bring down the games
The only thing I didn’t like was the “jigsaw” type reveal/style they gave number 001 and kinda taking the emotion away from the marble scene. I was very impressed with this show though.
I don't like ending. Gi-Hun should've got on that plane, went to see his daughter, and lived happily with his money. He just got out of a death situation, I wouldn't risk it if I were him
@@ballssackus9520 he could, if he thought about his daughter and prioritized her before strangers. And how can he be sure he can save them, knowing how dangerous those people who fund and create the game are? He might get killed too
@@anya4304 Priotize his daughter? Those games are anual with 400 people dying each time. No one can live with that guilt he has to go and save those people and bring down the company. To him they are not strangers they are his brothers and sisters in arms and he knows how desperate they all are.
Some ppl who died in there he know and care, like sangwoo, saebyok and ali. I dont think he can live happily with that much blood in his money. At second game, ppl comeback because they want to, but at first game about 200 ppl died not knowing what game they enter. He at least wanna do something about it. And i dont think he care if he died in process. He know his kid safe and sound with her family. His mom died. He took care sangwoo mom and saebyok brother. There is nothing he have to worry.
Plot twist: The people who lost the game were secretly transported to a biotech plant and injected with a chemical that causes them to turn into zombies. Gong Yoo boards the train and one of the infected players sneaks into the train before the doors close.
This conveys people being extremely desperate. Playing games like they used to as innocent children to fighting desperately for money. It’s a harmless children’s game to have fun and enjoy life however because of the money they aren’t playing like children, they are playing like adults. Adults who have given up on life and they see the cruelty in the world that children are blind to.
The 7th floor to see the homeless guy was a setup. The homeless guy may have been a plant but the person who helped him was definitely a plant. Gi Hun running into the guy in the subway while on the way to the airport also had to be a setup. Gi Hun was still playing their games but he didn't know it.
I think you’re overthinking it. Why would the game runners plant the guy in the subway, so that Gi Hun can get the business card and call - just for them to tell Gi Hun not to pursue things (and just get on the plane, see his daughter, spend his new fortune and live life)?
BRO I'm so happy you're covering this. It was so awesome. I binged it yesterday. I hope it gets a season 2. K Dramas typically don't go on for more than 1 season (at least from the ones I've watched) but it was only 9 episodes so maybe.
Kdrama that lasts 16-20 episodes are mostly the one who doesn’t have 2nd season. But Kdrama that is owned by Netflix, and does only have 6-12 episodes are the ones that does have a lot of season depending on demand.
I was pissed off at the ending, but your explanation and opinions helped alleviate that and makes sense now. It sucks that he abandoned his daughter, but I suppose it was a sacrifice to help hundreds of others when no one else would. Attempting to change humanity for the better - even hundreds at a time - is a daunting task. I don't know if I could do that if I were in Gi-Hun's position.
I still think it's a bad ending because it doesn't sound believable. He is one man after all. He barely won the first time around and he stayed alive mostly because of luck. Ali saved him in the first game, old man gave their team the tip for tug of war etc. So going up against a powerful organization, instead of doing what's best for your family is foolish. Plus the games operate in the same way. Only one will survive in the end, so how is he gonna save the rest from the Squid Game? Even if we get a season 2 and he managed to do that, it will just ruin the series because it will just turn into James Bond mission impossible, one guy vs an entire evil rich corp. It would be more believable if the cop was alive and he launched a full police investigation and shut them down, than having the protagonist with that ridiculous hair playing superhero lol
All the money in the world wasn’t going to get him his daughter back. She was gone for good and the best that he could do was to visit. And he didn’t need the billions of won to do that. She never wanted the gifts. She just wanted him.
@@rdpaik You clearly didn't pay attention. When he can prove that he has enough money to raise her properly he can appeal to the court and get her back. So he could be with his daughter again. Regardless him going back in just doesn't sound believable because of the reasons I mentioned. The cop could enter the games to bring the organization down, but if he goes back in and brings them down alone it just won't be a good ending.
@@PersonaPrime I don’t think you were paying attention. Her mom has her, she remarried and they’re moving to the US. 1) The Korean Courts will have no jurisdiction in custodial matters once they’re in the US, and they are. The US Courts will not get involved in a Korean divorce that was adjucated. 2) Even if they were in Korea, the Courts will not give custody to one parent after they were already given to the other parent, especially after years have passed. That will not benefit the child. The best he can have are visiting rights.
He was on the phone with his daughter he could’ve rebuilt that relationship over time. If he was flying out to see her mom and stepdad had to be willing to extend the olive branch. My problem is that he not only abandoned daughter but abandoned his mom in the beginning. He had enough money to help others pay their debts and live better lives. I truly feel like he was stupid and short sighted from beginning to end. Anyone stealing from their elderly mother is pretty shit. If mass murder is what it takes to make you a better person you’re already irredeemable. Plus he went back and not to shut it down and then was surprised when ppl keep dying but over 200 ppl died in the very first game. He’s an idiot.
Loved the series and the message it shares. Would not want myself to be in the shoes of any of the participants before they joined the game and during the game.
Am I the only one feeling bad that he didn't help Ali's family after winning the money?? And man I am speechless. The series was splendid and each element was nailed so perfectly.
i heard a theory that when they were playing the red blue game to flip over the cards at the start, that the colour that they chose determined their status as either a player (blue/green) or a pink/red guy
@@steveg1045 the first game at subway of flipping over the card... there were two cards, pink and blue... so there is theory...it might have been used to recruit people as guard in red suit or the player... depending on which color they chose..
I had a think on this as well. The incentive for the players was the total prize pool hanging in front of their eyes, and they were all heavily in debt. Now if you were a guard there was no incentive. You had guards harvesting organs for cash which means their pay or money up for grabs at the end was not enough to just guard the players and do their job.
Yeah I like this. Just like the greens, the pinks called the number and got gassed in a van. When they woke up they were told their 'tasks ' which is to administer the deaths of all the greens in exchange for money. Notice the pinks also seemed to be trapped and unable to escape
So no one is gonna mention that this guy did not pay his own debt? It is said early on in the last episode that he hasn't spent any money since the account was opened.
also the one who the north korean girl partnered with ep 6. that episode made me cry so much because the girl with the nose piercing let the north korean girl win.
I gave up watching western shows years ago and started watching kdramas. Best decision of my life. They have really stepped up on kdramas since 2019! The quality is incredible. Worth the watch!
@@nicooliver6019 the best of that year was crash landing on you then followed the king:eternal monarch, true beauty, it’s okay not to be okay, uncanny counter, hi bye mama, penthouse:war in life is a recent one that’s brilliant. I like how it wasn't very predictable. The only time I predicted it right was when the black masked guy and the detective was at the edge of the cliff and I was like maybe this guy is his brother and I was right hahahah. And for me the only awkward moment was the whole screen time of those golden masked vip guys.
