Trust me this series gets extremely good even later on especially when the whole behind the scenes of the games start being explored

Fun fact: There actually WERE 456 actors on that field during filming (just like there were all also in the dormitory) and those whose character died stayed where they fell on the ground (a great attention to details on the part of the film makers -And quite likely a nightmare to coordinate!)

You chose properly. While the subtitles might not be 100% accurate, the performances are 100% exceptional, and allowing the truly dreadful dub to replace the passion of those performances is a crime.

“Game of Squids: the sequel to Game of Thrones.” I don’t think it’s fair to insult Squid Game like that before you’ve even watched the first episode.

I absolutely love the parallel to The Running Man and add another King death game book, The Long Walk. I read both in my teens, long before I saw Battle Royal, and the theme quite accurate. Will love to see how you two break down the rest of this series, because it has so many half hidden nuances and connections you won't truly make until the end of it. Part of why it's so popular, the craftsmanship is amazing.

This show is absolutely nuts and so well done, you two will love it!!!

Great reaction like always. Game of squids is a game about the Greyjoys. 🐙 🤣 This show is incredible. It's a masterpiece of acting, writing and directing. Each show gets better and better. The old man having the time of his life was the best. FYI I'm never playing red light green light ever again. I would gave been dead within 10 seconds.

4:50 Looking at the shape with fresh eyes, I can see how it can look like a squid but without the tenticles. I thought of a cut up squid but i can also see how it could look like a whole squid

The bright colors, the sleeping gas, people as numbers, all remind me of The Prisoner. It’s from the 60s but as a cult favorite, you might know of it.

the subtitled version does get a few things wrong, however that's not really the fault of the subtitles. Korean has some words in it which there really is no translation for in English, so they do the best they can.

The Hunger Games parallel is interesting. It's kind of a superficial similarity, but Squid Game is explicitly set up as a criticism of capitalism, with the games being a metaphor for the coercive forces causing the working class to have to sacrifice themselves for the good of the elites. Meanwhile, The Hunger Games is a pretty clear retelling of the Theseus story, where Athenians were sacrificed to cement the power of the ruling power in ancient Greece. Furthermore, it (probably unintentionally) serves as a criticism of bourgeois revolution, and the French revolution in particular, which is what really cemented the slow transition from feudalism to capitalism

I will have to disagree a bit. I believe the first concept of this nature was from a short story by Ib Melchior in 1956 called The Racer. In 1975 it was turned into the movie Death Race 2000 which was produced by Roger Corman starring Sylvester Stallone and David Carradine. It was remade in 2008 starring Jason Statham called Death Race. There is word as of Feb 2021 that The Running Man will be redone by Edgar Wright and will stick more to the source than the original movie did.

This was a fun series but I watched it dubbed. I hate reading movies.

Squid game has nothing to do with "Hunger Games" or "Battle Royale". Nothing.

It's starts well , by the end your completely fucked off with underwhelming ending and the candyfloss

Great choice. Although the subs might be inaccurate 1-2% of the time, the dub is waaay worse. It is even more misleading and also takes away from the main benefit of the show which is character development. The dubbing is pure awful and evil. You have made the best choice.

It's good, but the obvious plot holes ..... So it's a bit over- hyped IMHO But deffo worth watching
