Don't judge me, but I was in Guitar Center last Sunday determined to buy a new bass. GC is the only place relatively close that I can try out different brands. I knew my price point which was $1,000 and I tried a bunch of different basses, but this one felt and sounded the best to me. So, I finally bought it, and I'm loving it.

The gold ones are very good looking. But... Because there is a big but! I searched everywhere to see if we can purchase a golden bridge or tuners looking like Squier-Fender ones. That don't exist! Like a good cop in USA! What if you drop the bass on the floor and you break a tuner??? What if the tuner is broken by itself one year later? What if you want to upgrade but still have the Squier-Fender look with the tuners or the bridge?? Nothing goldie on Fender site on the parts department... Big but... So i went to a Vintage one! A zillion chrome tuners looking like Squier or Fender everywhere!!!! So your doomed mister... Bad thinking...

It’s too bad you had to shop at guitar center. Around me in NH, they SUCK. They don’t set up or tune anything on the floor. Their help is useless. Glad you got the bass, though!

I hate the “at this price point” or “for the money” disclaimer. Sounds good. Record with it, nobody knows it’s a Squier. Guaranteed. Someone cares enough to look at what the bassist is playing, they’ll be like “that Squier sounds great”.

I got the p bass in lake placid blue with gold hardware. It's a awesome bass. It played great right out the box too. It's definitely up there against my fender player series. I might get this squier jazz soon too.

Sounds fantastic and looks good to, well done squier. I really want to get the squier 40th seafoam jazz and put a tort guard on it to look like geddy less 1962 seafoam jazz.

I just bought the ruby red version. She is “bite the back of your hand” pretty. But has anyone noticed that the pickup output is loud? I A/B’d it to my Geddy Lee MIJ jazz and the output is much greater on the Squier.
@ajwalton19

I noticed the exact same! I am so impressed with the sound and playability of the Squier that Geddy may need to get rehomed...

My p bass arrived this morning. The blue one. I was a bit worried, buying a squier without testing in Shop for 500 e /600 dollars I wasn t sure. I have no job because of my health...I needed an alternative. As a jazz bass guy for two decades, I already added a Sire at my fender Ones...but for p bass,Im sorry, but Sire doesn't make it...so I would try squier.have been already upset years ago,I have to admit they really improved,finish,quality,sound...and the set up is minimal...no need to go see a guitar tech or a luthier. With my little knowledge it took me 5 min to change strings,adjust action,trus Rod was good.Im very happy and would rate it 8/10 quality/price, Maybe 9. Sire would be 9 for jb ...nothing to say just that the landscape is evolving and now the olds prejudices are no more accurate...mexican fenders are pretty good...it Will neveu ne thé custom Shop,but in the 80's even a big price instrument could be the wrong one....not saying this is perfect or not expensive enough,just saying Im glad and would gig and record with it no problem

Thank you for the great review! How does this stack up against the Player series Jazz bass? Any serious differencies in playability/quality?

I’d say at par at least. I only own American fenders, Rickenbacker, Gibson’s etc. this is the first and only squire I ever bought and now own.

2 questions. Is it a good bass or is it a good bass “for the price point” and did you set the truss for all that fret buzz/clicking or does the bass have a lot of buzz? Thanks!

The Sammick and Cort factory produced squires are good instruments full stop, most of the classic vibes I’ve bought have had flamed maple necks and beautifully dressed frets straight out the box. However, you need to try them out, or buy one from an online retailer that’s good with returns/exchanges, because just like their Mexican and American Fender counterparts, some ugly pieces of wood do occasionally slip through the net, and sometimes quality control guys just have ‘f@ck it’ days.

That's about as beautiful a Jazz Bass as I've seen! Many thanks for the great video! I have a question about the "gold" hardware - do you think that might fade over time? Anything I can do to maintain it? Thanks again.

I HATE bass guitar demos. All of that muted thumb plucking and stuff that 90 percent of us aren't gonna do. I want to hear the bass playing a song in a live setting with other musicians. I want to hear how it sits in a mix through an ampeg 8 x 10 with drums and guitar. Thats what I'm buying it to do.

I wish Squier would have come up with a different kind of approach for their 40th anniversary models. I mean, they just threw some vintage colors and inlays, « gold » stuff all over the place but no string through body bridge, no roasted maple neck, no paranormal stuff…. Not even a single fretless model 🙄 They are just using some high end custom models colors from Fender while asking 600€ for it o_O’ Jeeezzz, those people have no imagination and they really had quite a long Covid time to think about it… It’s a pass for me.

Squier is making instruments in the same manner that Fender did in the 1960s. Plain and simple. The Fenders especially the American Pro are: overpriced, overbuilt, overeningeered, heavy, sterile sounding. The graphite rods and the pickups combine to make the bass just go “brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr” and that’s it. You can slam them and tour them hard but they are very stale sounding. I tried an original era classic vibe J once and it was dark, wooly, sparkly, and warm. It was so warm and mellow sounding.
