Well, the Curtis Novak recreated Vintage Jazzmaster Pickups arrived yesterday and I put them in today and Wow!!!!

They sound fantastic!
Much more like a Vintage Fender Jazmaster,,, has the Zing!
"Spaghetti Western", "Johnny Cash", "Roy Lanham", "Ventures" ,,, here we come!
My Hunches were right!
The stock Squier Mascis pickups weren't bad but I think more P-90 and had lot of output but these Novaks sealed the deal

Speedy delivery too!
I shot some quick videos that I may put up later

Having grown up listening to J Mascis play guitar, it's a real treat seeing an older gent playing something with his name attached. :)

This is the only decent novak pickup demo in existence, seems like you should get a royalty. Every other pickup demo on youtube is just horrible to non-existent,

Thank you for this clip ,I can never find similar to a stock wind it's always the fat or hot and if I do find stock type wind they use overdrive in demo.. Thanks again just what I'm looking for in a pick up.

Many Thanks! Yeah, I'm not a big fan of overdrive either. I feel it masks the true sound and soul of a guitar. I do like 60's distortion though and groups like Cream, Hendrix, Garage and all that :)

Hi Jazz, They are even, Novaks, Well balanced!, I'd just raise the bridge if it is any weaker sounding but both work just great even

Love the demos! I went on the Curtis Novak page, and I cannot tell which JM pickups you are using. Would you mind posting the exact title of the pickup that you ordered for those of us who wish to emulate your style? Thanks!

@lhooverable Thanks1 They are the Vintage Series. Had them wound in the high 7.0 range. Jason will accomodate you too if you have questions :)

@musicmatty67 Thanks! I think, Live, you hear some difference but Yes, the stocks were pretty good too. The Novaks are a little bit more juicier and dynamic,,

Great sound and playing! Did the Curtis Novak pickups fitted easily in your guitar or did you have to do some mods in order to fit in? I am thinking of getting a set for my Squier VM JM but I am not sure if they'll fit...

Did you also replace the wiring and electronics? Sounds terrific as far as I can tell.

To be honest..I really don't hear a noticable improvement with the Novak pups...the Stock pups sounded Fantastic in your other demos...especially the BBoys Fun Fun Fun lead intro clip you have up....how can you top that sound you had going for that clip ? Cheers-

@yogijimi101 I don't think these are the Novak P90s these are the standard JM-V which are single coils wound to vintage specs. They're not as high output as the stock pups that come with this guitar, but for that authentic vintage Jazzmaster sound these are great!

So are these the vintage P-90 novak pickups with A5 magnets? Im trying to look for some really beautiful sounding P-90's for a jazzmaster, with adjustable poles that i can put to whatever spec i want. Something with a full fat deep bassy tone like these, with a vintage kinda scooped mids, and chimey clean highs. Any suggestions? Thanks

@yogijimi101 I just got back from NAMM 2012. Great! ... TV Jones makes P-90's, Curtis Novak makes P-90's. Also, Jason Lollar, I don't know about adjustable polepices but anything is possible, Try contacting these guys too. Maybe, they can make you up a custom set?
