So let me just say this. This lesson is NOT about Stevie Licks, or necessarily his "style". It is about his TENACITY. This is how to get that non stop push and pull that I associate with SRV. His style and flow are sooooo unique to him and of course I can always try to make a video about that, but for now, this video is about TENACITY and content of notes. Enjoy!!!

Bless you brother, I started when I was around 10 dabbled for 5 years took 3-4 years to try to be a better solo player but ultimately stopped playing, Now im older.. little wiser.. more patience in the soul 😅… I want to be an overall great player.. Hopefully I can achieve just this with your content. Cheers mate! 💚🙏🏻

Ya know man, as a listener of music, you've really unlocked an algorithm for how to listen to music too. Understanding the call and response within a single measure. I'm actually hearing your discovered method in other types of music, not just SRV. Thanks for that. I appreciate you sharing with the world. You should be proud! P.S. I've been a Vai-Satch shredder for 30 years, this has genuinely enlightened me.

This is a really good video/ point- the fact that it's much more into what his "psychology" or mind set is in the licks he created instead of just learning more licks is HUGE! I really like this approach- you're correct- it's really fun to play this way dividing the measures up and the end result sounds much more "Stevie" then when I just play chord tones- which sounds too "jazz" to me. I love introducing the measure with chord tones and wrapping up the measure with Pentatonic- whether it's root pentatonic or chord tone Pentatonic (like off the IV and V chords when each pass by) - so may lessons talk about using chord tones and ignoring scales- but they all sound like jazz players and I'm not into that- this sounds like SRV all day long! Love it! The Pentatonic "Blues-es" up the phrases but when you use the chord tones at the beginning of each measure you can hear the changes without any background backing track at all. Lovely.

I love your enthusiasm, you're joy when talking guitar. Isn't that an exciting feeling. You hear something farmiiar in your playing and figure out what it is and roll with it. We all start off without calluses and muscles we need to develop. Practice until we get that stuff. We learn chords and how to smoothly change from 1 to another. Other things just happen by accident or fall into place. I learned pinch harmonics by accident. 😂 Now I can play Billy Gibbon's (esque) lead stuff 😂 This is one of hundreds of channels but I think you're right up there with the more famous channels like Rick Beato. I'm subscribed and have been for a while now but I really felt compelled to compliment you on your teaching methods, and you're style of editing in the fretboard shots as a visual aid . Mostly though, you've got a humility about you that is endearing. All the best from Miami ✌️❤️🎶🙏
@jeremyhart5029
@jeremyhart5029 2 года назад
This was truly a eureka moment for me as well...! Realizing that you can use the core tones to guide the solo and to give it direction and then you use the pentatonic scales to create the flavor and the accents. This methodology does create a very structured way to solo but yet it sounds like it flows melodically because it's following the core tones and the overall structure of the blues song !! It creates a very balanced approach where you give the ear the structure it wants but yet you can also use the pentatonic scale's to give the ear the variety and flavor it desires!!! What a true lightbulb moment man... Thank you so much for sharing this !!!! And I believe you're right, this is the trick that Stevie Ray Vaughan used and played around with to create his signature sound!!!
@chrisgeo1642

Every comment I make in your videos start the same way . I wish I had found this channel sooner or more to the point I wish I had learned this stuff when I was just starting. Kind of a weird coincidence is this morning I was down in my jam room looping a 12 bar blues in E and really trying to work out a cohesive direction to soloing over it. I took a break and low and behold I see this. Such a fantastic concept and one that as you said really only requires a change in thought process. I unfortunately don’t have the disposable income to subscribe to you patreon at the moment so I thank you with much gratitude for posting these videos. I took a decade long break from playing because despite being able to play songs and keep up with bands there was this brick wall I hit where I just wasn’t getting any better and wasn’t stringing concepts together. Today my mind is blown and I will be watching your lessons from the beginner content up through the advanced. Thank you again.

Haha, this was awesome and I think get it, especially when you describe it as swimming. I think of how a dolphin powers itself underwater with a few strokes from its tail, then uses that energy to power itself into a jump above the waves, then dives right back in and keeps that momentum going ready to jump again. Or like riding a roller coaster...the 1&2 chord tone setup is the car going uphill and building energy and the 3&4 is the downhill run, releasing all of that energy. This video was really mind expanding.
