Believe I catch the author saying that MBR should be used instead of GPT. MBR is an older way (circa 1983) to format and organize data and metadata on a disk, and it has been deprecated. Any modern system - from windows 8 onwards - would use likely use GPT. Any system made in the last 8 years likely uses UEFI instead of a traditional BIOS, and thus will need GPT. GPT is the way to go.
@FnDTX

You are totally right! 2 years ago when I made this vid, mbr was the way I had setup my old hard drives for years. GPT is 100% the way to go now for sure. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I had never installed a HD more then 2tb at this time 2 years ago. GPT supports much larger capacity HD’s as well. I am going to pin your comment if that’s okay with you! Cheers! 🍻

Thanks man. I bought this about 6 months ago and used it to clone 6 systems from standard hard drives to SSD. Then I put it in a drawer and forgot how it worked. I went online to get the manual but came across your video instead. I wish they had thought to out a label on the unit to explain its function, but that would be too much, I guess. Again, thanks.

Great vid, I have one of these, I bought it just to access some old data off some dead PC's. Now I'm going to use it to upgrade the clunky old mechanical drive to and SSD. My system has 2 1Tb partitions on it, will the offline clone transfer both partitions? The new drive will be 4Tb. I get I might have to extend the volumes when finished. Thanks in advance.
@FnDTX

I believe it will, but don’t quote me on that lol. It should duplicate the source drive but extend the volumes for sure. Good luck! Cheers!

Hello Sir, I have this particular docking station, a new one and its clone function does not work! Can a new hard-drive out of the anti-static bag be cloned in the target bay of this docking station with the smaller source hard-drive in the source bay and no USB ?
@FnDTX
@FnDTX 5 лет назад
I clone target drives straight out of the anti static bags with out any issues. Do not need to plug in the USB. I plug in the USB to check the target drive and check for issues, maybe set a drive letter and format, but for what I have tested, it will work with out plugging the USB in first. Put target drive in, put source drive in, push the button and wait... Hope yours works for you? If not, I would submit it back to the seller and seek a replacement. Good luck! 👍

I have two hards drives that are 1 TB each and I had recently bought a 4TB hard drive. Would I just clone both of the old 1TB hard drives to the new 4TB drive?
@FnDTX
@FnDTX 3 года назад
You can do a direct copy with the 4tb and the two 1tb drives in the wavlink one by one. It should separate each drives files, but i am not sure on this one. Best to contact the manufacturer and find out how the best way to do that is? Good luck! It seems like it should just copy the files from each drive with no issues though? Best to double check with the manufacturer tho. Cheers 🥂

Could you please say how to extend the cloned volume on the larger target hard-drive completed from the smaller source hard-drive. The target hard-drive had unallocated space showing and that space cannot be used.
@FnDTX
@FnDTX 5 лет назад
You might have to extend volume of the partition. Just to to disk management, then right click on the used partition, and then extend the partition to take up the remaining unused unallocated space. If that is hard to understand, there is videos on RU-vid that show you. Just type in, "Extend unallocated disk space on windows10". That might get it for you. Good luck! Be ready with a back up just in case you get it wrong and have to re-clone it. Never hurts to play it safe 😉👉.

Excellent Video & Product. A quick question. I have a 1 TB source disk with less than 100 Gig on it and a Target ssd Drive that is 500 Gig. Can I clone this source since the data takes up LESS than the Target's capacity. Thanks.
@FnDTX
@FnDTX 4 года назад
Yes, for what I can tell, you can clone to any drive that has a larger capacity than the source drive, and you can clone a larger capacity drive to a smaller capacity drive as long as the contents on the source drive is less than the space available on the target drive. Good luck!! Thanks for watching! 🙂👍

Thanks for the review. I may be confusing this with a different dock/review but someone in comments at Amazon mentioned that you must wait - following the cloning procedure - for the blue light to not only stop flashing but it must also go out before shutting down and removing the drives. Is that not your experience?
@FnDTX

Yeah, the lights went out right before I grabbed my camera to show that it finished, but yes that was pretty much the same as my experience.

You can clone an SSD with Windows on it, activated or not. Just follow the video to setup the new SSD, then pull the old SSD from the PC and place it in the source port in the Wavlink, then put the new SSD in the other slot and transfer. It should finish and you can put the new SSD in the computer and it will boot. Thanks for watching.

I have tried several HD cloning software but disappointed at most of them. I had been using Acronis True Image. It seemed to work fine until my computer power supply went out and took out the motherboard. My tower computer has several removable racks so I can clone to one of 3 drives in rotation. After I had my new computer built with a new motherboard, processor, RAM and 4 gig video card I decided to clone it. After the cloning process was finished the monitor was flashing off and on twice a second. I found out that Acronis had trashed both the cloned disk and my drive “C”. I had used the FREE program called AOMEI Backer-up. This was before my computer died. After building my new computer I decided to buy the Pro version of AOMEI and use it. When I cloned my drive “C” the cloned drive would not boot up. The operating system, Windows 10 Pro would not boot up. Several engineer friends told me they use a stand-a-lone device called “Wavlink”. On their suggestions I purchased it. I have removable hard drives so I had to take the hard drives out of the mobile racks and put them into the Wavlink. My drive “C” is a 512gig drive which only has my programs on it. All my data is kept separate on two, two terabytes drives. The time it takes to clone my drive “C” takes about 20 minutes. The Wavlink really is worth the $35.

@Milton Keenes That is actually a good question, I am not sure on that one? You could clone the first drive, and then open a new partition on the destination drive and clone the other source drive to the new partition? That is just a suggestion, as I am not entirely sure? I would think that if you tried it, it wouldn't hurt anything because the source drives would still be intact? Best suggestion is continue some more research on it, and hopefully the partition or something like that will work? Good luck!

does this do block-level cloning?
@FnDTX
@FnDTX 5 лет назад
Yes, it does block-level cloning. Doesn't care where the file is on the drive. What the filesystem is, or if it's encrypted.. copies a drive exactly. It will also leave the extra space on the target drive alone, such at a 1tb cloned to a 2 tb. The 2 tb, will have the extra 1tb left to add files without having to adjust or add partitions. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching 😊!
