Finally got a chance to try out my new race bike for this upcoming season. Since there is very little info on these, I figured I'd give my take on this awesome bike!
Wow everyone! Thank you so much for the support and views on this video. I didn't expect this to be as popular as it is! I really appreciate all the feedback and new subscribers. I promise I'll have more SSR videos out soon, just waiting on some more parts to finish. In the meantime, check out some of my other videos!
I got a brand new 21 SSR 189 as my very first bike. I’m 32, a beginner, and have a wife to please (as far as budget is concerned) so the 189 seemed like a perfect purchase, and my good lord I am so please with my bike. I have about 15 hours on it, and am craving for many more. Seriously so happy with my bike
No problem! That's exactly why I started to make a few vids, as there's nothing about them on here. Check out my other build series videos, I'll have new ones coming soon!
the Suspension is from FastAce and its Showa clone... rebound and comp on rear and front... had the same bike as a 250.... it was great ! 4500 trouble free miles. When you get it, take the plastics off check all the cable routing and correct if necessary, tighten all bolts again and check an re-tighten the spokes and it will be a very good reliable bike... the problem is the dealers dont do anything and give the customer a non checked bike and most of the customers also doesn't recheck anything because they ride it instantly... that's why spokes break and things like that..... i'v put a Mikuni TM36 Carb on mine (250cc) which gave her alot more power, on the 450 you should put a TM40 which should give her around 50hp
I'm a huge SSR fan..I jus wish SSR would come out with a 2stroke engine like the gpx moto bike..the SSR is a really good bike for the price..I definitely would work on the jetting a lil an put new tires on right off the rip..tires are pretty cheezy and heavy..I bought my son's 2 SSR 125TR's..and gonna look at the new 300's for myself..I have found they are basically Hondas clone..all Honda plastics ,brake calipers, rotors, frame swingarm are exact Honda ..the craftsmanship if the bike and the welds are flawless..
Any music over dirt bike exaust sound is terrible on any occasion! Just an FYI for future videos! Lol. Good luck bud! Hope the bike has served you well! I bought my daughter a thumpstar and it's pretty kick ass I must say!
I can vouch for the ssr brand..I have the ssr70 with an 88kit....its pretty mean.i put a mikuni clone carb on it...it growls now...too fast for my 8yr old by far..but its been a tank.
So these are actually decent bikes? I didn't know ssr even made full size bikes, this makes me SUPER happy cause I have kids that ride/race and I need a new bike. Im definitely wanting a 250!
The Chinese have come a long ways in quality. I believe there is a market for this kind of bike... not everyone needs the ultimate race ready bike, or can afford them. Watching you ride, the bike seems to have plenty of power (sounds strong). The new SSR 300 (2020) comes with CNC hubs, six speed transmission, so they improved on that aspect, already. I suggest that SSR form some race teams, keep improving their product (like adding fuel injection) and in a few years, they may be neck and neck with the other bikes? Thanks for the video 👍
I just picked up a '19 new for a great deal, its replacing my YZ250FX. 6Sigma has a jet kit for 39$, its on the way cuz like everyone said it feels lean at low rpm throttle stabs. Been reading on the Asiawing 450 {carbed version is the same} there is a light blue wire to disconnect, like the 450x pink wire mod. Anybody done that? My only gripe is there is a lot of noise coming from the front end, clanking or metal on metal sound. I took the front wheel off, tighten spokes...i think its coming from the forks. Is anyone else's front forks noisy??
I've heard that from a couple of other people as well, but mine made no noise. These have all steel internals inside, so maybe that extra heft is rattling around I side during compression and rebound.
The thing people don’t realize the frames are American made with the Honda engines on them the smaller ones at least They are incredibly reliable for the price
I got a 2020 sr450. Solid bike for a chinese bike. Ive also owned the sr125 in the past. The engine is robust. I put 41 fcr carb on the 450 amd man....the bike rides now like its on steriods lol. Its like the cheat code to these bikes.
Thanks for the support! Have you checked on getting a new one? Orion powersports has them fairly cheap. Judging by the pictures, it looks like SSR uses a standard keyswitch for most of their bikes. 30 bucks for a new one. www.orionpowersports.com/ssr-fx250-ignition-key-switch/
@@wrightcycleworks awesome! There is a 2020 and a 2019 edition brand new at a dealership near me for 6000 for the 2020 and 5500 the 2019 and I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these since j heard they are a great median between a pure trail bike and a boring enduro like the dr400 which sounds great to me
Actually, SSR is owned by two Chinese-American brothers, the quality control is much better with ssr but these bikes are still built and shipped from China.
@@TheRoadhammer379 is it the same owner's as gpx? I'm really interested in the tse250r but I'm afraid it'll be underpowered. Any oponions are welcome?...from Wyoming USA 🔫🤠🇺🇸p.s stay safe
Bse, kayo, ssr is the relationship yes they are built here but parts are imported from suppliers of kayo zongshen and Bouser others and imported to the ssr, kayo, bse usa location ssr is in cali kayo in texas and bse in canada we dont see them but they did or still exist in many other parts of the world.. The designs are from yes a china man that was a Honda tech raised in the industry.. Kayo being the premier dealer.. if you siri or ask google kayo and ssr that info is wikipedia and tells you back story and that dude that started it all.. i dont think gpx or trailmaster or syx or kovi or a few others have any involvement in the group.. there bikes use similar and same parts from same suppliers but are mostly imported whole bike to usa not built here or modified by mojo or bouser.. if you have a ssr189 the inside of shifter says mojo also which mojo is a BSE brand of motors built by their manufacture and they make a stout 250cc like 25hp air cooled "mojo" badged (Honda cb250 replica) with slanted valve cover to mainly fit the (. medium chassis for bse j10 and z10 model mx and enduro spec.. which from my research the bse j10 and z10 main frame is same as ssr189 and kayo 230 model bike.. The main frame manufacture unknown but judging by the machining near the axle bolt and brake stay area theres slash/back cut outs that are identical.. The 250 300 450 and new enduro model are replicated from x model hondas and most parts match one to other.. minus 300 obviously thats a 250 with bse engine or zongshen engine.. the new enduro i havent checked out much but it looks like a 150 or 190L but the ssr has larger cc with comparable specs, Its a larger cc engine from still a cb250 air cooled from zong also.. honda mase the new xr150L carbed with tiny carb and xr190L is fuel injected.. might be a mojo type build or just zongshen but its def a cb250.. they seem to use alot of cb250 stuff even sprockets on most model are sized and tooth same from cb250..for good reason, that its a very popular model motorcycle over in china and many island and pacific, other countries outside usa where them older hondas are just replicated over and over.. so parts are available for them.. The group of companies have def made a name for themselves in the us market.. like Piranha and syx and kayo and trailmaster have.. They def need better quality parts, they cut corners in some areas like materials used for pegs, levers, and such are said to be alloy but there more like concrete and break easy, bolts strip easy like 1 time use, ull be chasing new threads alot.. the carbs are usually inferior to a good race bike that uses a flat pumper carb like fcr type keihin or mikuni made for 4 strokes.. they use cheap throttle tubes and cables and cdi boxes, cheaper bearings and almost everything is recycled grade.. but cost is cost and aftermarket is there if tou know how to parts research.. instead of ssr specific you gotta do 22mm bars, 22mm levers universal, or pegs and such are just universal fitment from another model bike, upgrade carb to a nibbi or oem model 32 36 38mm, exhaust you just measure the inlet mostly universal, pro circuit has a few models for unreasonable price to make it CA and State Land Legal being spark arrestor type.. but if tou spend a few hundo and address cables to motion pro, levers and shifters and scrap the fake alloy parts most models are rideable, i wouldnt go from showroom to trail or track without manu upgrades to everything possible and then id prob Still change the engines to honda or swap in a prime affordable 2 stroke large bore build into the well prepped chassis.. then id send it.. most of them are underpowered compared to its replica or comparable model specs and need much better carb setup, fuel delivery, electrical, and spark addressed and then what you want to get more out of it isnt available.. u gotta know a guy that is a machinist to port, polish, grind cam or make new one, and that makes them useless in our market.. We Americans build everything durable and use certain brands made in usa or japan like Tokyo Mods, Yoshimura, Hot Cams and many others dont wanna spend the loot too make templates, or setup a lathe to make a cam for china bikes.. they know its a deaf end market that usually dies before it gets anywhere.. But i can say for ssr kayo and fea others that have been around in the us market long enough have gotten a slim market for aftermarket and is growing more now then ever for the staple brands of ssr kayo pitster trail master and kymco.. the real downside is dealers in usa have long wait times for these and dont wanna market them they just have too to stay in buisnes because the market for jap bikes has gotten expensive due to same importing issue with shipping and demand of parts to be made for them oem.. alot of new bikes have very long rain checks for replacement parts.. dealers dub the term "unavailable" "back order" 😂 no longer produced is becoming an issue on the good bikes of the late 90s and early 2k on most 2 strokes its getting stupid trying to find cranks and rods and just alot of parts not made anymore and if not able to get aftermarket or remachined or matched or niksealed its over for that bike unless u swap it newer model engine or parts.. only thing that saves both markets is "oem standards size" 7/8ths or 22mm ect sizes of standardness makes alot possible.. new levers and risers and fork tubes because standard mm tubes like 41mm ect.. so fitment which only requires few trips to grainger or a parts store for bearings woth proper o. D. And i. D fitment.. and bolt kits.. lord china bolts i swear are one time use😅😊😢😮 .. And 1 true savior beats them all amd thats NGK.. without a NGK plug nothing would be running proper.. they are true geniuses and the heart of powersports.. Hope yall had good read and thank you for the privilege of your time! 😂❤
Do you have the stock carb on there? Has it been jetted? I purchased mine brand new from the dealer and it has been a nightmare to get started, pretty much ever since I got it. The dealer claimed that it would get easier to start after breaking in and jetting. It has only gotten worse. I have about 15hrs on it now. I ended up buying another dirt bike while I'm experimenting on it LOL.
Mine still has the stock carburator, not sure if it's been rejetted or not. I know it's running a bit lean so I need to tear into it and check. Sorry to hear about your luck so far. If it got worse after rejetting, id go back to stock. If I can't get mine how I want, I'll be ditching it for an FCR!
Have u adjusted the air/idle screw?? The lever choke cable is hard to get use to, i have a small velcro strap i hook it to the bars with until its warmed up, then i usually adjust the idle yet.
Wanna REALLY liven the bike up and it run like you wouldn't believe? Take a carb off a 2004 Suzuki rmz250 and it'll supposedly go right on that SSR and it'll change everything on how it runs. I'll try and find the article I read and send it to you, not sure if I can find it but best I remember it was that year of carb and something about a gate slide carb..it wasn't a butterfly type carb like most..it was bone stock for Suzuki's and Kawasaki for quite a few years and dude went insane about how it brought the bike alive..I've had to work on jetting my boys bikes (stock)and I got one run'n good, the others has a idle issue..I tore it apart and cleaned the shit out of it and noticed the pump gas with alcohol is rough on them..so I started using 100% gas and it's running better but still acts up some times..for no more than they cost, ill probably buy a new one and go from there..the stock ones are mikunis..
@@johneubanks5951 I just put a fcr41 off Ebay, meant for the 450x. Its nutts, feels like 55hp now. Massive power right off idle to midrange. Cut the light blue wire from the ecu also, like the pink wire mod on 450x it changes the timing to rev quicker.
I sold the bike a few years back, it has decent power. More like a hopped up DRZ400 than a 450 motocross bike. It will wheelie with some effort. Any replacement part for a 2006 Honda CRF450X is a direct bolt on.
@@wrightcycleworks oh the video I seen of the real thing was doing wheelies like crazy on the street with street tires. It was doing like 80+mph. I’m sure it was the fuel injected model but I figured it would be similar. Sad that it takes effort to wheelie a 450
@ Wright Cycleworks excuse me i see u owned or had one of these bad boys an was wondering if u can make a maintenance video referr me to one or just what oil filter, oil, an trans oil i may need just finish the break period an wld like to change everything out please and thanks much appreciated
Hey buddy, I don't have this bike anymore, but you can follow the maintenance schedule for a 06+ CRF 450X since this bike is an exact copy. Also make sure you look up DS Z Garage channel here on RU-vid. He has alot of great info on this bike and modifications that can be done.
I'm not sure about getting them street legal, as that would depend on your state registration requirements. I think it would make a fine commuter, however I'd lean more towards a GPX FSE 450.
I am in the United States, these are sold by SSR. Check out their website for dealers near you. I honestly didn't have any problems with this bike. It's a direct copy of a CRF450X so parts are plenty and available.
@@wrightcycleworks I just looked them up I see the price is like $5500 I am looking at importing these directly from China they are $3000 each for just 1 bike but I don’t think these bikes are epa certified so I don’t know if it’s possible to import them…..
I can't speak for the 450, I believe it has the same ratios as the 450X. The 250 is a Zongshen NC250 that is used in alot of different bikes. The SSR250 is a closer ratio 5 speed. Other bikes like the GPX FSE 250 and CSC RX3 use a wider ratio version. SSR does have the new 300 out which has a 6 speed tranny that's wide ratio. It's a big bore version of the 250 that if love to try out.
I like the look of it. Haven't rode or seen one in person. The engine is a Zongshen NC250 with the 283cc big bore kit factory installed. I think the price point is a little high though. For 300 more bucks, you can get the 450. The big bore kit is only $200 from GPX, so I think your better off buying a 250 and a big bore kit.
I know you sold it but overall how was your experience with this bike and how long did you own it? I see you have the gpx and I've only heard good things about the brand. I dig the 250 2stroke they have
@@wrightcycleworks Here in Australia a brand has been going for 15 years called Braaap and they just released back in 2021 the MX450 but it looks very much the same as this bike its only $7290 with a lifetime warranty for $250 but it only makes 43hp and im sure its just a CRF450X 2007 i was thinking of getting one of them or a 2022 WR450F for about $9000
So far everything I've torn apart inside has been replaced with a Honda part with no issues. Motor is made by Loncin in China, and is used in alot of different bikes and quads.
Only parts Ive found that are suspect are the wheels. Everything else is on par with a CRF. So far so good. I just like the fact that there are competitive bikes for less than half of a new one.
So 4500 fcku that u can get 2018 old models brand new just sat on shop floor for like 5 grand ye it be a crf250l but id rather that than this but itls scary how professional it looks and its a honda clone but engine is different any1 else let me no abou these and there engines i nonthey chibese see
there is no way this bike is any better than a honda, a 2004 crf 450 would shit on this bike any day, the welds arent near as good as hondas, and the components on this bike are chinese honda lookalikes
Buys $4000.00 bike, Has SIDI sticker, so I am assuming rides SIDI boots. Obviously sticker from the previous owner Bike actually sounds not too bad, would have rather just heard the bike, not sure why people need to over lay music over top? Actually quite annoying.
I clicked off it when he said the welds r better than a honda lol thats like being racist with me in same room lol give ur head a wobble im lookong at m crf 2fiddy and the welds are spotless
This same bike is used by Christini for their military 2wd models. If the Army thinks the frame is good enough for them, it's fine for us. PS, try making sure your sentences convey a rational thought next time lmao.
@@wrightcycleworks another bike that I find myself wanting to try! That christini is a cool idea, I just don't know how practical it is. Any oponion is welcome? .....from Wyoming USA 🔫🤠🇺🇸p.s stay safe
