I hear that. 2003 I was living with a whole bunch of dudes in a bigger apartment. Everyone works second shift except for me. I worked at night. So I would come home at 6 o’clock in the morning to find people passed out on the couch on the floor and even in my own room, although not on the bed, that would really made me want to burn the House down. So I go to the living room where I had my five disc cd changer and my 12 and 14 inch speakers turn on either Saint anger, seasons in the abyss for the first down record and proceed to crank it up to 11. I’ve never seen hangover. People move so fast when those songs hit their brains. Then fast forward 20 more years I’m splitting with My now ex-wife because she’s a bat shit crazy bitch and I’m a big proponent of scream therapy now because of Saint anger

I agree. I’ve tried very hard over the years to give it many chances and find something in it. There are riffs that punch so hard but then there’s just a void of pointlessness in it that can’t be avoided. The band getting lyrical input was a terrible decision, there are some really REALLY terrible lines in it. The drumming is just bad. I get the therapy thing that this was partially a representation of or a product of. But it’s just not good. I will say that it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever heard, which is what I thought many years ago. So my opinion on it has slightly improved with age 😂

Yes. Yes it was that bad. It's every bit as bad as you've ever read or been told. It's terrible.

The snare is gone so now it’s enjoyable. Also this album has managed to somehow age way better than anyone expected

Tbh first song I learned was frantic. Forever thankful cause the metal scene now is starting to understand it was actually a great album just different as hell.

I was 14 when it came out and we were all Metallica fans to one degree or another. We all took the piss out of it (especially the snare) but we all listened to it all the time.

I thought is so so when it came out (i was a teen). 15 years later i listen to it after having been through some shit as an adult and I freaking think its a masterpiece. Its a very mature and personable album. Love it.

St anger was my first Metallica album. I was too young to experience the stuff before but this album was actually gem. Even now. I play it and get shit done around the house and shop faster

Started listening to this recently all the way through lately. Invisible Kid, Sweet Amber, The Unnamed Feeling are all solid deep cuts , along with the title track and Some Kind of Monster, the album still holds up today.

my thing is, listening to it with vs without the keg sounding snare, the bad snare honestly fits the goopy sound of the guitars

Saint anger was awesome. The folks crying about it couldn’t have done better, it’s someone else’s art, if you don’t like it, don’t listen to it. I think it fvcking ruled. And it was something different.

I actually have a huge respect and love for this album. I appreciate it a lot. I don’t relate to it in the sense where it helped me cope with hard times because I was so young when I was introduced to it, but I’ve recognized that this was an album that helped Metallica get through those times. For anyone who’s creative I feel it’s necessary to go out the box and experiment out of what is normally made and I feel like Metallica definitely executed it perfectly. An album to express certain emotions that aren’t perfect or the most positive, they reflected that in the best way with this album in my opinion. And I don’t care if I get the hate, but I love the snare in the album I think it compliments essence of the album. A couple of the notes in between were fucking with me too

Simple fix. Get someone to digitally replace every snare drum hit. With a normal snare, add some solos here and there and voiá

When St. Anger first came out, We all didn't like it at first, but then, slowly but sure, it grew on Us, due to the perspective of the documentary movie 'Some Kind Of Monster' and how the songs of St. Anger were portrayed in the classic VH1 documentary 'When Metallica Ruled The World'! 🤘🤘 To be really honest, Lars does still annoy Me, to the point where I hate Him sometimes, and that just shows how manipulative some people can be...

St anger is a perfectly good album in my mind, other than the infamous snare. I just can’t stand it while listening to it, it overwhelms the rest of the mix. I don’t even think the tinny sound is bad, it actually kind of fit well, but it’s so pronounced that it just ruins the album.

4 things I think would have fixed St. Anger 1. Fix the drum sound 2. Hire a producer with experience in the sound they wanted (Ross Robinson or Terry Date for example) 3. Shorten the songs 4. Have Rob play the bass parts
