Many people have been asking me about scalping st. Augustine. Will it kill it? No Scalping st augustine before growing season is by far the best thing you can do. It'll produce new growth and thicker stolons.

I did this last Monday. I *wish* if found this channel sooner. I should have scalped a week or two after the freeze - I was just too worried about bringing the lawn out of dormancy too early. I wasted a good few weeks of growth. Scalped her 9 days ago, and threw down some 12-12-12, plus RGS, and she's coming back fast. Great channel. Love that I have a fellow st aug youtuber to follow.
Good to do very early and late in the growing season when going in and out of winter. Very stupid to do in the summer. Of course that doesn’t stop a lot of yard guys that ruin their customers lawns since they only water twice a week if that.
I did same thing after I dethatched, and I see more weeds than grass. Scary I hope this helps. Even after dethatching there was just too much dead grass. So I mowed and bagged on lowest setting. Thanks for video
I know I didn’t say it because it had importance what I meant by that was when I dethatched, it wasn’t enough to get rid of the dead grass and weeds , that’s why I scalped.
Hello. All mowers are different buddy. But on mine was the second to lowest setting. Make sure u grab a ruler and measure the height from the mower blade to the blade of the turf. I believe 2 inches was enough for me.
Was wondering the same thing. I wish he mentioned it. I have the same mower. I did it but didn’t dare to go to D setting. Just kept it on the E notch. So far so good. I’ve kept it on E now for the last 3 mowings.
I went to the second setting. Keep in mind all mowers are different. So make sure to grab a ruler and measure the distance from the mower blade and ur turf.
Good question. If you saw towards the beginning of the video there's tons of dead grass that got toasted so mulching that back will cause even more stress to the lawn and would throw debris in there as well. U need to bag all the dead stuff.
That’s not really scalping. I do the same to my st aug every year, first cut in the spring to help the roots warm up and stimulate growth. Cut about 1 1/2 inch to 2 inches. Now my neighbors lawn gets scalped, he has bermuda and I drop the mower down to the dirt.
@@MrLushLawn The reason they say do not scalp St Aug is because scalping is much lower, what you did is nice and 200% safe, you still had almost 2 in to go before hurting stolons. Scalping can/will damage runners
