It's been 45 years since I visited and it was amazing to see how much had changed. It had modernized quite a bit and I didn't see all the little bars and taverns along the waterfront. It was a beautiful place to visit And the people were always friendly.
Agreed, the people there are lovely, and the town had so much to see, even in the off-season when it was cold. I'm looking forward to going back someday in the summer, when everything is lush and green. :) ✌️
Am from that area of Newfoundland and our French teacher used to take a group of students there, to France!, ha on over night school excursions , way back in the day.
I am surprised that more people don't visit St Pierre & Miquelon from NL or the rest of the Atlantic Provinces. Such a wonderful way to experience something so completely different! Thanks for checking out my video, I hope you enjoy the others as well! ✌️
@@wanderbeard It's Cheaper For atlantic Canadians to visit the USA . the marine atlantic ferry is costly , $234.19 one way for car plus $116.27 per passenger. There's Nothing In NFLD Worth That
@@JohnRiley-q3wYou're crazy if you think that. Newfoundland is fantastic. When I went, I didn't bring a car. I walked on the ferry and it cost me $38. Then I took the bus from Port-Aux-Basques. A long trip, and I was tired, but Newfoundland is incredible. How you would ever think it's cheaper to visit the US is beyond me. I rented a car for a week in Newfoundland and it was a great way to see the peninsula. Maybe don't be so judgemental. Newfoundland and the people there, are definitely worth visiting.
Yeah, it was still nice to be able to wander around and have the streets almost to myself :) Thanks for watching, and I hope you check out other videos as well! All the best. ✌️
Voila, well done young man..can I recommend a book by a famous Canadian Farley Mowart..his book is called,a boat who wouldn't float.. it details his trip there probably around 1967..funny as he'll well written and a must I wud say. I myself am 79 from st john's and got to the islands twice..once in probably in 1962 then in 1980. I love the place and its people..Bonne voyage..merci buckets
Thank you! I will check out the book for sure. I am glad you enjoyed the video as well! I hope to visit again in the next few years during the summer time. All the best, and take care! ✌️
I was hoping to see French Cars. From what I've now been told we would see more French Cars a few generations ago. Great place and we hope to see this for ourselves one day.
It's actually part of France, so while many tourist shops will accept Canadian dollars, the local currency is the Euro. The bank machines will distribute Euro for you from your bank account back home, just be sure to choose the "let my own bank do the conversion" otherwise you pay a worse rate of exchange through the machine. I have a bit about the ATMs there in my series from SP&M. Thanks for checking it out! It's a lovely place, and a great little slice of French culture!
I am not sure. I would think it would be the same as going to France. It would of course depend on where your are coming from, and many other factors. The time is the year would certainly matter, as during the winter or non-tourist season, I can't imagine they're would be many jobs available at all.
Doesn't look any nicer than when we went about 30 years ago. Other than a lovely supper, not worth the effort or the cost. At least we can say that we experienced it for ourselves.
I disagree, I found it to be a wonderful and unique experience with an island of lovely people. The tour of the larger islands was incredible, and the nature was fantastic. All depends on what you're looking for, I guess. I am planning to go back again in the summer months
You are a good guy,I understand that you live in NFL, a beautiful place I heard but expensive to. I am in Coaticook Quebec, if ever I pass by I call you for you and I to have a beer and conversation. @@wanderbeard
There are two more videos from St Pierre and Miquelon. This first one is about the journey. A practical guide to getting there. Enjoy the adventure. ✌️
The next video is linked at the end of this one :) This is the playlist of all six parts from Newfoundland and St Pierre & Miquelon ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H7VC7ImjONk.html
Think of it more like provincial France. Everyone said it was really similar to smaller French towns. I haven't been to France myself, so just basing it on that.✌️
SVP. on veut le francais et pas l'anglais sur la presentation. C'est un teritoire francais. Les anglais et la langue anglais out of order de ce teritoire. C'est la France avec l'euro. La population parle le francais. Les coutumes sont francais.
I don't speak much French, but there are french subtitles available on the video of you prefer. 👍 93% of my audience is English speaking, from English speaking countries. I am trying to bring attention to this beautiful place to people who don't even know it existed in many cases. ✌️
Why is this area still part off france still considered to be french - get with it - maybe Canada should proclaim an island near france to be Canadian - we live in 2024 - and NOT 1724 - totally insane and stupid situation
Because it's an overseas French territory? France has 12 overseas territories, including St. Pierre and Miquelon, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, French Polynesia and many more. Many countries still maintain overseas territories. The UK still has 14 overseas territories. This is no different than American Samoa or Guam is for the US. And make no mistake, St. Pierre & Miquelon is 100% French, in culture, history and in modern living. I hope you go and check it out sometime, it really is an amazing place. ✌️
