Completely genuine and genuinely intellectual. There is nothing fake or pseudo about this woman. I just love the way she comes across. Definitely a highly intelligent woman.
Listen, listen and listen again...she grows on you in a way that makes you just thirst for more. To me there are 2 kinds of music. The kind you pick up on fast and love for awhile but it gets boring. Then there are the songs that you go "meh" and just put aside, but some day it catches you off guard and you get hooked and love it for life. There are of course exceptions to the rule, like for me Tom Sawyer from Rush...first listen was love...and now 20 something years later I still love it.
Yeah man damn straight! There are some songs/artists that tend to grow on me slow as shit and it's really weird, with this chick i really liked it at first hand, maybe because i knew she was quite unic, not like those pansies of todays music.
It's awesome to see artists from genres you'd never expect taking on a serious prog influence. I've always felt that about St. Vincent's music so it's really cool to hear her say it. As a lifelong prog fan it's nice to be in an era where it's no longer considered a dirty word. Kimbra is another artist who cites a strong prog influence. I love musicians who defy genres.
For all you nerds bitching about her use of the word “benign.” Here is the Merriam Webster definition. Definition of benign 1a : of a mild type or character that does not threaten health or life especially : not becoming cancerous a benign lung tumor b : having no significant effect : HARMLESS environmentally benign No real problem with her choice of words here.
Her five song concert on Austin City Limits is an exersize in perfection. Please listen to her pitch and intonation on "The Bed". She is a talent outside of the standard deviation.
