I don’t have any experience with Stages stuff but this actually looks very reasonable. Big improvements. Great to see Stages making in this very competitive space. 👍
Glad that the interface and tech remains the same across the board. Having bought an Dash L10 that was buggy, which was replaced to an M50 just six months ago; I was not very keen on upgrading/updating my head unit again so soon. I can confirm that the new Android App doesn't suck anymore and the GUI on the unit is much cleaner as well. Alas, the buttons on my M50 will remain a bit of pain for foreseeable future.
Much better than the old units, which I was a fan on for the screen, battery and build. Software was a ballache. These remind me of the Wahoo's though.
Thanks for the great review. Exaclty what I was looking for except didnt really grasp the difference between M50 and L200 (other than mount and buttons.). thanks
3rd version with the 3rd different mounting system, ok at least the same 1/4 turn standard now at least. I fully invested into the first 2 Stages Dash systems, with a complete change of mounts too! Very unreliable to say the least! Whilst the units were always reliable, the whole and complete lack of integration with other platforms was a great disappointment. Features promised from day one or always i the pipeline, like Di2/Etap metrics displayed, no turn by turn navigation unless you used their route planning system. Workouts from TrainerRoad, again Today's plan was needed. If it's your thing, no Strava segments either. . On the face of it this looks great, and things are going in the right direction. I don't want to seem to be bashing Stages on their units, I'm just very disappointed with a lack of promised features. I hope the 2 month feature update of the ones I've listed above doesn't turn into 12!
I can't see what it offers over the competition? Actually, right now it offers a lot less for the next 3 months at least. It's got no standout feature that screams "BUY ME"
Desperate L200 user here looking for help. Have contacted Stages and searched online but no cigar. turn don my unit and language has changed to what I think is Korean. I cannot find where to change language back to English, despite trying to move through menus, though obviously not being able to read a thing. App cannot change language on unit either. Any suggestions welcome before I toss this thing in the fire..
Those auto-generating turn-by-turn directions are there now (if you use the Stages app), but from my experience Stages has a little more refinement to do because sometimes I'd see a turn direction that would say, "stages turn direction" or something like that.
Thanks Ray for the video. What’s your plan regarding full scale review? Still in summer or rather later? I am facing my ELEMNT’s battery slowly dying and wondering which my next unit should be.
I’m on the market for a new computer. I currently have the wahoo ELEMNT and works great, only downside I have for wahoo is that sometimes it takes forever to pair with my heart rate monitor. I have seen Garmin computer and the only problem I have is the software is kind of complicated. The other one I’m interested in is the hammerhead which seems to me to today is the only one really competing with the wahoo products. Great display great colors only downside on hammerhead is that you can’t really sync from your phone “that’s what I heard I need to bereft is true” and the interface is kind of hard to understand sometimes but other than that I don’t see myself paying big bucks for this computer. It seems rushed and poorly made, it doesn’t full fill my eyes into expending 300 and something dollars for it
This clearly isn't finished, but I'd definitely take this over any Wahoo, or the HH K2 if battery was important to me. Also Bryton. Garmin or a hypothetical future updated Karoo with post SRAM hardware? Hmm, not sure unless the next 3-4 months of updates are very good
Hi. Thanks for the great video. Would love to see how it performs on the mtb trails as I am looking for a bike computer. Will wait and see your review on it.
I recently purchased the M200, I noticed the micro usb charging port is very tight, tried different cables, is this normal function or a defective unit, still waiting for stages to reply, please advise.
Can you make an updated video on this computer since the dev team has had some time to push those updates? Would like to see how it compares to the latest Garmin and do the features delivered actually work. I saw your Coros Dura video and was heavily disappointed in features just not working.
Everything seen there was actually default out of the box. I used the new automatic profile creation option for my first ride. And correct, the zones are customizable.
@@Dcrainmaker Thanks mate. They look awesome. Id really love an upgrade to something like this but my edge 500 is still working perfectly so I can't justify it 😅. I look forward to your full review and hopefully my edge 500 dies by then 🤣
"Weather was properly miserable" 😀 Ok, I know I get the most important bits from your video, but I can't help but notice: so after a long time you have ditched the Instinct2, but now you imitate it with a watchface. 😀 And of course, thanks for the video. And I've just seen a Tactix7 video from Garmin. I guess that was another "silent release".
@@KWPS I have a Garmin 1000 that needs to be replaced soon, I’ll likely go with a 830 Plus or a newer Element Bolt. I wouldn’t consider a Stages Dash, Bryton, or anything else because… why would I? I need those smaller companies to provide a compelling reason to switch from the larger ecosystems with better support and broader user base to fall back to if I need to ask a question etc.
@@RyonBeachner I was seriously considering a stages power meter and it got me thinking about this unit. Garmin ‘should’ release new edge units in the next few months (according to past releases) so I might just wait and see what happens in the next few months before deciding.
@@francisdayon Kind of hard to choose when reviews are mixed for older Garmin and Wahoo models, especially when the newer ones have great reviews, but they want over 400 dollars for it. So, why not push your luck with this and see if its a hit or miss? That’s what I usually do sometimes. If it doesn’t work then I just return it.
As somebody already asked about 1 month ago, there is absolutely no information to be found on the internet about the Strava Live Segment for there L and M 200. Isn´t it supported? How does the screen look like once activated? Any customisable fields?
@@olivierhenrat5881 It’s been talked about for many years. Back in the day Strava used to try and extort crazy licensing agreements from bike computer companies. They’ve since stopped, but I’m guessing Stages just doesn’t hear many people asking for it.
Phones have poor battery life especially when using map routing and GPS. Also they lack Ant+ for multiple sensor connections. I have about 7 Ant+ connections with my Edge. You can’t go wrong with a bike computer.
Yup, exactly what MVP said. The thing is, yes, you can use your phone as a bike computer for basic stuff. But as you want to do things like navigation, or sturctured workouts, or sensor support, or live tracking, or, or, or...you end up needing a bunch of single apps that definitely don't work together/concurrently (if even offer those options at all).
You can use the Strava app on your phone then mount it on a Quadlock or something similar. The problem is GPS data is absolutely unrelaiable. I have seen way too many people wanting to do a PR on a segment only to find out their Strava app wasn't able to record it. It actually makes more sense to buy a cheap magnet speedsensor and just have Strava run on your pocket than to have it on your handlebar. The phone distracts you from your ride and you look like a NOOB! A big no-no especially as a roadie and a bad idea on the trails.
I am using my phones now after getting back to cycling and will definitely buy a computer again. Reason why watching this. Using USB On the GO and ANT stick I get power meter(Vector and Assioma) to work but HR mostly not. Works good enough for indoor training or leisure riding. Training outside it is crap. Speed is jumping +-5, loses connection when trees, missing 1-5% of the route every time, hard to fit because of the size, mostly in the way in aero, eats like 25% battery each run, cumbersome and slow to connect sensors, slow to reacquire gps and probably more stuff I can't think of now.
Question RE: the Adaptive (Automatic) Training Zones, which estimates and adjusts your zones based on 90-day ride data. Will this mode adjust all power zones simultaneously based on a single "% of FTP" metric (as per Coggan), or will each zone be separately/individually adjusted on its own 90-day sliding scale using the power curve stored inside the unit? The answer to this has a HUGE bearing on the product’s training palmares, and its unclear even from the manual how exactly it works.
Yeah, I talked to them at length about it. They agree, it sucks. They noted that for their unit volumes (company size) they simply couldn't get the USB-C option for the unit types they wanted within a halfay acceptable timeframe (basically, the usual chipset shortages). One thing to keep in mind is that since they're basically based on an Android device, they're pretty much buying some common components. Obviously, not an excuse, but they were clear they'd much rather have had USB-C and absolutely see that as the future for them.
The L50 was such a disappointment, buttons really hard to press , the gps reception was bad and i did change it under warranty. The best thing was the display . The L200 is 329 euro . No thanks i’ll go with the wahoo Roam for less money as it is on sale right now and don’t do any experiments…
As an owner of one of these I would stay away for right now. It does not report miles accurately even after setting wheel size. Also support is non existent if you do run into issue. I'm thinking these reviewers ran into this issue because no one has posted an actual ride video nearly 3 months later.
@@Dcrainmaker yeah sorry my bike came with it '20. Also running an emtb that's made by giant who supposedly were in on this. Their own manual say they do ebikes. So absolutely no excuse. If most riders aren't using it why is it an option?
Slight update to this. Right now from stages there is a known issue with giant e-bikes dealing with miles and speed. Right now the fix is to use GPS instead. I had to take the bike to the shop to get this info as Stages took a week to acknowledge my ticket and they have yet to actually dive into the issue. Most response I got from support was that they personally have not ridden a e-bike......
