For those who say it's not natural to spay a cat or dog should realise that it's not natural to keep a dog or cat housebound either. Letting them out is dangerous but Forcing it to stay indoors so it's not able to satisfy its natural instincts is also cruel . Either free the poor thing so it can do its natural thing but then you have the risk of getting it run over, lost, injured , infected or stolen or spay it as well as that you will definitely end up with a litter that needs caring for. If you spay the animal atleast it will be happy indoors and it's what the humans want too. So just spay the poor thing and put it out of danger and misery.

My kitty is going through her first heat (day 3 now) and honestly, it feels like she’s possessed. Her caterwauling is so loud, its spooking us all out.. She doesn’t care about food or play time anymore and its like she’s a whole different cat. At one point i thought she was coming on to me 🤣 i was like this is getting weird now.. waiting for it to be over so we can get the baby spayed and bring back her old self. 🙏 UPDATE: I’m not gonna beat around the bush. After I posted this comment, My cat ran away for a couple of days and found herself a boyfriend. 😂 there was nothing we could do about it after that. She got pregnant soon enough and at first we couldn’t even tell because she was having just 1 kitten (runs in her family that the females have only 1 or 2 kittens at a time). We found out the day she went into labour lol. So, she gave birth and then for two months all was well. Then, She went into heat and it was the worst heat I have seen her in. It practically lasted a month and it was terrifying for the baby as well because mom was so distressed. We took her to the vet and explained and got her spayed the next day. The vet said she was still in heat because her organs were engorged when the procedure was performed but, thankfully, there were no complications. It was over in less than an hour. However, she was still caterwauling (not as bad as before) for another month and we found out it was because of the residual hormones. Other than that, the surgery was uneventful, she healed pretty quickly, in fact she was jumping around the house less than 24 hrs after surgery. Of course, I am aware it may not be the case with every cat. I am just talking about our experience with spaying. The only downside of it, that I have noticed so far, is that the boyfriend hasn’t been seen around ever since and he was her first love. 😟

Whenever I read people trying to justify not spaying ot neutering their cats with "it's not natural" or "they're not spayed in the wild" I feel like they have forgotten that the typical house cat, no matter what breed, is not a wild animal. Wild cats exist yeah but house cats, even street cats, aren't in any way wild. So we're responsible to keep them healthy and make sure they don't breed since kittens still end up being killed because people don't know what to do with them.

My 4 year old Cali had 2 fairly normal heat cycles but never suffered like this girl! I was dreading the first cycle, since I know all too well what can happen, such as the presence of tom cats fighting, spraying and the stares from neighbors. Besides, cats are not allowed where I live, and I was not thrilled about having to keep her inside! She was spayed with no complications and wouldn't you know, 1 week after her spay I look out my bedroom window and there are 3 ( think the 3 Stooges lol ) toms, staring at Cali and then each other but not fighting! They all looked love sick, thank heavens for spay surgery. Gorgeous cat!

I didn't know this cause we always spayed our cats at kittens. Then once I got an adult cat from someone. When she went into heat she was yowling at the top of her lungs for 2 weeks straight, nonstop, we didn't get any sleep. Was freaked out that she was dying til she did that thing where she was low on the ground with her butt up constantly, looked like she was twerking. The vet says they can't spay while they're in heat. So you have to wait and set up an appointment. Every time, she'd go into heat at the time of her appointment for like 2 weeks like every month, never got any sleep. And if you hear that, well when all the tom cats around the neighborhood hear and smell that, they surround your place yowling nonstop.

For all of you telling this person to GET HER FIXED, im sure she will be, but sometimes you cannot control the timing as many vets are backed up with surgeries and they usually have to have a full exam b4 that too. I have a stray who just had babies and im dying to get her fixed, but if she is nursing, it will dry up her milk, so you are not allowed for the babies's sakes...until after weened. im really hoping mama doesn't go back in heat during her nursing. Only 1 week in and im stressed to the max just by worrying about her and babies. If she goes in heat, ill be ripping my hair out.... I also have my fixed 11 yr old male in house...so.... EDIT: Correction, it wont dry up her milk. I don't want to put out wrong information. Thanks for the correction. A couple ladies who claimed to know about cats told me the info...or maybe i just misunderstod...at first i had no idea what i was doing. It CAN, though, make it difficult for her to nurse until she is healed from the surgery. Since my baby mama (Maggie) is staying indoors I wont be spaying her until after. Also, many vets (2 that i have called and my local spca) will not do it until after lactation. PS I watched alot of kitten lady and she is an awesome feline caregiver.

The reason for the caterwauling being so loud is that it's meant to carry, much akin to combining a cat's and rooster's vocals. Intact Toms come from far and wide in search of a mate.

This is the calmest cat I've seen in heat. All three of my cats got into heat before we could spay them and it was hell, to put it lightly. No worries, all three are spayed now.

Our Bengal is 14 months old and just went into heat for the first time. Minute you tap her that's her bum in the air. Yelling at the top of her lungs all hours of the morning. Yup. Our sweet cat (she has passed away) used to start the "heeeelllllllooooow" meowing at 11-12 at night.
