Do you see a lot of bees buzzing around them when they sprout or do you have to entice the bees a little to come around with companion plants?
@SeriusJade
@SeriusJade Год назад
I have several other fruit trees on that side of the house, so it's so aromatic over there that I don't need to companion plant.

I was hoping to learn the difference between the male vine and female vine. I think what we saw were the female flowers. I thought somewhere I heard there are vines that are self-pollinating but when I bought my starters last year they were categorized male and female. I may have lost one or more of my starters though. I had maybe a dozen grapes appear last September but this year I'm expecting a much bigger yield, if the current pattern of closed flower buds gets even halfway pollinated. Then again, they could all be the male pollinator buds I'm seeing. Still in the dark. I'll watch more videos. Thanks for this one. I'm seeing a significantl density of these small clusters on my vines.

That's the first I have heard of male and female muscadine grapes. Very interesting! Thanks for watching and for commenting. I'm gonna have to go look into that now! 😊

From what I have heard male vines do not make grapes.

Thank you for this! I just went out and checked on mine only to find what I thought were grapes had turned into strange little spikes type things 😹 Didn’t know they were flowers! Do you know how long each stage lasts? We’ve had ours for a couple years and this year it produced the little miniature grape looking buds that just flowered.

Hi! Sorry to say that I do not. This is my first year seeing the stages since i purchased them last year. It took me a while to find the information about the different stages myself. lol. I will say that i think it was within a month that i noticed mine going to that 3rd stage. Once you see this, it it DEFINATELY a good time to go ahead and cover them with bird netting. I got lazy and didn't do this step. My vine is currently crying outside.

if you planted Muscadine vines it take about 3yr to have a crop you see little bb size june -july and th get bigger -- nickle size in good soil and good rain fall wait till at least 2nd week sept to geather fruit yu can get fallen fruit on the pineneedles it ok wash if needed the longer you wait the sweeter taste mid sept on.you can spit out the seeds and eat the fruit and hulls very good for you as these grow wild never sprayed -----hulls are used in some med dried and ground up --- somehig to do with longer life . you can dig up a young vine and take home and replant full sun run on a wire if poss in a north south direction not east and west---better sun

Thanks doll! Do i need two?
@SeriusJade
@SeriusJade Год назад
It depends on the variety of muscadine grape vine you purchase. Some are self fertile while others are not. You would need to ask the nursery or Google the variety you are considering purchasing to confirm if you need more than 1 of them.

Nice! Any tips for when the first tiny ball flower buds start? Is that when you should add fertilizer to help the grapes develop? Do they self fertilize or do you need to help it? Thanks!
@SeriusJade
@SeriusJade Год назад
Since mine are in pots, I fertilize differently than someone who has them in the ground. I fertilize once per month during the growing season. They do not need help with pollination. That lil miracle happens all on its own! 😊

Nice. I have been thinking of growing some for my jelly. How many vines/plant did you start off with?
@SeriusJade
@SeriusJade 2 года назад
I have two right now. Sometimes I wonder if I should have only gotten 1 though because of how long they can grow. Time will tell though!

the quicker you plant them the better if you can find wild ones in the field or woods dig up roots arent very deep 6-8 inch plant all at one time so they all bear same year best in fll sun on a wire running north and south not east and west -- better sun water often in spring all leaves falloff in late fall --normal put on post 25 ft apart have post 2ft deep 5-6 high with wire on top so you dont have to bend over to get the fruit train vines to follow the wire trim off excess vines in late fall a new vine come spring time102 vines is all you need to plant between the post any more will be a rat nest so you can not get the fruit as vines get older trim alot off it will grow back --- dont be afraid to cut the vines ---important

Were the three stages on the same vine?

Yes. I only showed stage 3 on one of the vines, but they both had grapes/ stage 3.
