This cheap and simple wire rig has proven its effectiveness many times this year. While the rig is not as resilient as titanium, the materials are so cheap and easy to work with once you've practiced the haywire twist.

UPDATE: I had a crazy unlucky streak dropping 6 fish in a row so I changed to offset live bait hooks for the stinger. Things immediately got better so it might be a good idea to use offset hooks instead of inline on the stinger.

@@pismoNH Yeah I'm sure it'd work depending on what you're going after. I don't use them mainly because I don't want a mahi swinging a treble hook around in my kayak.

TOO FUNNY, I heard some chickens and a Cogi frog in the back and thought I was hearing it outside my office here in Halawa Oahu. Always get chickens, but never the frogs... Thank you for sharing this video!

haha yeah those coquis are super loud here but I don't even notice them anymore

Great How-To video. Guess I will have to dedicate part of my first ono to you! Do you leave that piece of plastic on while fishing or just until you rig up? (I thought the frogs were coming from outside my place and had to mute the computer to realize it was your video)

Thanks 🤙 The plastic piece stays on the whole time and I don't think it bothers the bait or the predators. The Coquis are really loud lol.

Excellent tutorial! Do you reuse these rigs after an Ono whacks them, or do you retire the rig after each catch?
@AffordableWahoo
@AffordableWahoo 2 года назад
Thanks! Usually Ono will kink it pretty badly so I typically retie after a strike / landing. Lucky thing the wire is so cheap. Tight lines!

Mahalo for the tutorial! Now if you could only use some coquis for bait as it sounds like you got a ton of them out there....

Glad some find it useful. Good luck out there! Lol yeah maybe can make palu with them or something...

This is so awesome! Mahalo! Do you use wire for all of your trolling or do you have 2 rods? One for straight floro to hook and one rod for wire? Do you run a top shot? If so how long? If you use 2 rods what would prevent you from always running wire ?
@AffordableWahoo
@AffordableWahoo 2 года назад
Np hope it helps! I always run at least one rig with wire. Fluro is risky because a lot of the time you end up just feeding the onos. However, some days the shibis won't touch wire. Its always a tough call. I always run at least 80 feet of #40 topshot. It also helps to have two rods just in case something happens (boat runs over line and spools you, line birds nested and you gotta chop a bunch off, etc)

Do you run wire no matter what you’re targeting? Just in case of Wahoo?
@AffordableWahoo
@AffordableWahoo 2 года назад
Generally yes because usually the minute you put a bait out on flurocarbon here the wahoo will insta cut. Definitely get way more and quicker bites from the tunas on fluro though so it's a tough call sometimes!

Have u stopped using kink 2 kinky wire?
@AffordableWahoo
@AffordableWahoo Год назад
I still use the Knot2Kinky sometimes for my troll cam leader because it will last a few strikes but for my main rigs I only use the stainless stuff nowdays because it's so much cheaper and faster to rig!
@teamyak-attack1060
@teamyak-attack1060 Год назад
@@AffordableWahoo would you use knot2kinky if it was the same price?
@AffordableWahoo
@AffordableWahoo Год назад
@Team Yak-Attack I'd probably always have at least a couple rigs as backup yeah. Tying the knots is way harder to me than haywire twist so that's another reason I like the stainless

For your Sabiki rig. Why do you choose limerick hooks
@AffordableWahoo
@AffordableWahoo 2 года назад
I like how strong they are for their size. When I first started fishing I used to use small MZ hooks but they'd bend open sometimes.
@gmwell1
@gmwell1 Год назад
So which one do you personally use steel or titanium? And what size?
@AffordableWahoo
@AffordableWahoo Год назад
I usually use 44 lb stainless wire now because its so much easier to prep and cheaper. Been working on 40-50 lb fish but probably need 60-80 lb wire for bigger fish.

Do you tie flouro to swivel or use snap swivel?
@AffordableWahoo
@AffordableWahoo 2 года назад
I just tie my leader to the swivel with a Palomar knot. My leader is only 40lb fluro. I have a friend who uses bigger leader and a trolling swivel and still gets bites.
