Stalker Anomaly Classic Overhaul Mod Review (Old World Addon) 

I finally found a mod that is more like the classic games because I am not interested in stressing and worrying about the bullets, the internal state of the gun or that I have a bleed in my finger.

I just downloaded it and I feel like the best thing it shows us is that "Fun can be fun". Don't get me wrong, I like a bit of the grind and struggle of the Misery Inspired mods but sometimes its just relaxing to go and just lose yourself in the zone without having to deal with the struggle of being "Lost to the Zone". I would like to see some outfit variety within the factions, and like you said an Arsenal Overhaul. But as it is I am enjoying Old World more than I thought I would.

I don't like how a lot of mods that "modernize" STALKER makes it lose a lot of the sci-fi elements the game has to offer. HD Models for example, personally remove a lot of the uniqueness and originality the original designs had to offer.

Watching this gameplay made me feel like I'm watching old Oblivion Lost videos. That's a good thing - looks like the mod is really capturing the old-school feel.

Have been running this mod and I will agree that there's a lot stripped from this compared to Anomaly, but, I will admit that I like this better mainly because I'm a filthy casual and there is a certain charm to the graphic design of how the devs originally envisioned this game. If you want a jam-packed experience, go with Anomaly; if you like to play a bare bones simplistic progression but don't mind the classic look, try this mod. You won't go wrong however you play STALKER anyway.

Great video! Your description of it being "Call of Pripyat plus" reminded me of an idea I've had for some time now: it would be awesome if someone made a mod that added the main quest of Shadow of Chernobyl or Call of Pripyat into Anomaly. So that rather than being an unofficial fan-made sequel, it becomes a huge openworld remake. You say this mod is basically "Call of Pripyat plus", it would be great to embrace that and have the player fight their way across the zone to the CoP areas and then the game has the full plot and ending of CoP. Uncover the mystery of the downed helicopters, regardless of whether you are military, or in another faction but undercover for military, or truly independent - both the military and other factions would be interested in having the information. Then, team up with Strelock to escape the zone. If you aren't military yourself, you negotiate with the military to get the evac. If you are military it can use the original game's dialogue and cut scenes and voice acting. If you are another faction, you instead get new text dialogue to stitch the story together. When it comes to Shadow of Chernobyl, the main quest in vanilla anomaly already has you retrace Strekock's steps and then attack the NPP just like in the original, except instead of the proper finale you get Strelock giving you a recap of the game's plot, a text infodump with no voice acting, telling you about the cool finale of a previous game. It would be great if instead Anomaly was set during the original game rather than years later, and you had the option to start as the infamous amnesiac Marked One and uncover the truth and then destroy the C-Conciousness, a remake of the original game, but with a bigger zone and more quests. Or, if you want to play another character from another faction, you team up with Strelock/Marked One to attack the power plant, basically rewriting history so that he wasn't alone at the end of SoC. You either search for Strelock and team up with him, or you discover you are Strelock with memory loss, either way it is the same "follow in Strekock's footsteps", so 90% of vanilla anomaly quests remain intact, but when it comes to the finale it is the classic SoC finale rather than revisiting it just to grab some artifact.

Great and simple editing, clear voice and you make some good points. You calling it the ''CoP we deserved but never got'' is basically why I'm playing this addon, it brings back what made me fell in love with the OG games back when I was a kid in 2007. It's a janky, not that realistic, alien like place and game without really giving up what Anomaly brings to the table. Altough things like EFP/Gamma are really nice looking and have awesome variety, they are also really grindy-ish and more hardcore to play, if you dont go in with an alert/hardcore mentality you are punished real quick, and tbh after a long day I dont want to come home and get more stressed cause someone sniped me from the other side of the Army Warehouses with a rusted Mosin usind old ammo. Not saying its bad, but if I wanted something like that (and I have put quite a few hours in both of them) I would play games like Arma or the like. If theres people who want to try it, or nostalgic fans like me who are playing this, I would recommend a few addons like the Classic Textures/Classic Footsteps & UI Sounds/Classic Mutants Sounds, just for an overall ''this was a weird game'' experience. I agree, anomaly/gamma have little to do with the og stalker series apart from the maps gameplay wise.

old world is meant to be like og stalker games, having lots of new guns and stuff goes against that. it does also add a p90. Also anomaly has Arsenal Overhaul in it or COP weapon addon (im not sure which, it could also be a mix of both)

There's so much i love in Anomaly and learning to love in GAMMA, but as an absolute SUCKER for Shadow of Chernobyl, seeing those spindly ass arms and those fake named Gorzas and AK74s brings a stupid smile to my face Old World really knows its target audience, it knows its limits, and it knows when to put its foot down in what it will and won't include in itself. In a way, it feels complete already, and any big changes to it may detract from the specific vision Old World is trying to achieve, which is the graphics and gameplay of the trilogy in the 64bit Monolith Engine. It definitely isn't for everyone, and even as a massive trilogy lover, I'll probably only play this for a few hours then return to my modded Anomaly. Still, I say this with a lot of affection and a stupid smile on my face--seeing your video of the chunky FN2000 firing a hose of bullets at low poly Monolith soldiers looks so stupid in the best way possible Thanks for making this review. I'll definitely be linking it whenever I recommend Old World Addon to other people!

Thanks for making this video, especially on my birthday :) Yeah this addon is a great break from all the complications these "Modernisation" mods bring like gamma, which adds a crafting economy which makes no sense lore wise. I feel like OWA tries to be a refined CoC, and like you said "The CoP we never got." which I respect Chocohex (creator) for making. I hope this mod becomes a base for other modpacks in the future, maybe a mod that sticks with the simplicity of the originals but modernises visuals, and doesn't add guns which are not fitting to stalker, like Boomsticks and Sharpsticks (It honestly invalidates all the other guns since how tacticool they are compared to the base weapons.) but also not adding guns which are less refined then the existing ones.

the interesting about old world mod is that the Vanilla animations are fitting the old world model as well very interesting mod 👏

Wow, really hiqh quality video we have here) Just want to admit, that back in 2009 3 locations of Call of Pripyat were just enough, because of the bigger scale of those levels, as well as content filling and quests. Those locations felt more like open areas to explore, if we compare with previous titles, and in every corner of each level - there was always something interesting) Not bad at all, if you ask me)

this...this is absolutely beautiful, like Witch hunter General's comment, i do like Anomaly, but after all the Misery slogfests (the inventory bloat, items costing millions, gear being 0-1% when you loot them, bleeding if you touch literally anything, more unfair 1-shot moments, confusing repair and crafting system [seriously, why do you need vinca pills to make a bandage ? why not vodka as it would make more sense] and so on and so forth), i was left with no choice but install plenty of QoL mods along with other mods (also changing the gameplay options) that make the game more bearable through the bottle necked progression fun can be fun.

Going to this from Gamma was a breath of fresh air, but I was spoiled by the additions of what vanilla Anomaly, and even Gamma's included addons, brought to the table. I want to have the old look and feel of the Stalker trilogy, but I would also like to have, at least, the option to switch on and off gameplay options, and to know what sort of addons I can add on top of it from moddb. Honestly, I just want something like Gamma, but not focused on the Misery/EFT aspects. Goes without saying I miss Muh Immersion.

as a massive stalker purist, i love old world. much better than vanilla anomaly or gamma or efp. no gunporn, no tarkov assets, etc, etc. feels like coc just on a updated engine. honestly only problem i have with it is the economy. WAY too easy in my opinion. Pretty sure the addon is still being worked on tho so maybe the economy might get changed a bit at some point.

I like the weapons, just take the vanilla weapons and make them right side ejection port.

I am in love with this mod, but damn, this progression is TOO fast for me. I wish there was a way to slow it down a bit

I tried to run Gamma but my sad little laptop can't hang. So instead I am cherry picking some smaller mods out of the gamma list to keep the gameplay spicy and convince myself it was worth updating to 1.5.2

Most of anomalies guns are Arsenal Overhaul guns slightly modified.

The mod would benefit from more guns as long as they followed how the vanilla games handled them in terms of models/functionality, i would really like to see someone make weapon packs that follow the vanilla style of models

Having issues with MCM, can you not just load it in with MO2?

we need something like old world but more modern be like Stalker 2 same stuff that the first trilogy but with the today standards and more vanilla weapons

who is old world for? Me! the weirdos who like their slav jank a little extra janky :) I'm really hoping old world will become kind of a "base" similar to anomaly for other addons, if I'm patching addons to work with old world, someone with more modding knowledge than me has to be too.

For people wanting to try this mod, but find that the addon makes the game feel "old" should try out Call of Chernobyl, basically it's like this addon but with more "modern" Anomaly feel to it.

IDK why thys overhaul even exists when there's already "legend returns 0.9.2" which does the same things as "old world" but better
