It's the Zone. Everyone is going to kill each other at some point, but the Scientist saved his life. You never backstab someone in the Zone. You shoot them in the face, sure, but you never backstab them. That's the way to get hunted by everyone.
@@user-ew9sq5iw5w I was more pointing out towards how the Merc was grateful enough to hand over a gun for the scientist to defend himself with. Could of left the guy to fend for his own or hand him one of the guard's weapons but I feel like it adds another bit of honor and gratefulness to hand someone your own weapon as a sign of thanks.
@@arkoa0000 Like I said, the Scientist saved the merc's life. Merc returns the favor. Sparing a life is one thing, but saving one? That merits a gift or favor.
5:06 He's got 1911 so 7 rounds, he used one on the mutant, then his gun runs out after 6 shots. Love the attentoin to detail here, unlike hollywood with their unlimited ammo.
@@blacktemplar1139 tbf, even 8 is still good attention to detail. in the zone you want as much rounds as possible. it's very likely he just had one in the chamber and a full mag behind it.
@@southernbrain691 its just a model in SOC that looked like it was rolled white eyes, modders got more of a close look, and by looking that close just seemed like it was white, when it was just gray/without sleep yk, all the other models of the monolith in the games doesnt have white eyes
It might be a small detail but I love how the main character merc speaks English. It really fits with the mercs as a faction being composed of soldiers from all walks of life and regions.
wait... one thing I just noticed on my... fourth or fifth rewatch? The two stalkers who held off the bloodsucker horde? It always seemed strange to me, given how dangerous bloodsuckers can be, that the two of them survived being rushed by like eight of the things. When our protagonist enters the tunnel that the convoy took shelter in, there's only the one dead stalker and the one dead bloodsucker who killed him. I guess the bloodsuckers they shot were just SODAZ' rendition of the hallucination attack controllers do where they release apparitions of mutants to attack you
I understand everything, BUT! If we adhere to the canons of the stalker, then the controller cannot be attacked with the help of phantoms, only PSI installations do this (brain burner at the Radar location)
Depends on one's view on the mutants. Some see bloodsuckers as deadly and lonely one-at-a-time predators, other see them as less powerful creatures tended to live in a horde. And it actually is a problem to the game's lore itself, as you can see the first variant in SoC and the second variant in CoP. So... Depends, I guess
@@huntclanhunt9697 remember the line in the beginning of SOC “at least death would have saved him from the dreams”? That’s the first reference. I think it’s mentioned in a a few other places vaguely, and apparently it’s why they don’t let you sleep for the first 2 games (GSC eventually realized it was weird to not let you sleep and allowed it anyways).
He told himself it would be his last contract, it was more than enough to retire on. Except as he crept towards the border of the zone, where the army wouldn’t be looking at that particular time… he knew the zone would call to him again… he always came back for more.
I know I'm late but just wanted to point out a cool detail I don't know if anyone else noticed. 8:03, our protagonist is unknowingly about to shoot the yellow scientist who, later in the end, ends up saving his life. Just something I found cool.
Everything in it felt quintessentially STALKER, and nearly every faction (Besides Duty, Freedom, and Loners.) was included in some ways: even the ISG! The animation was without flaw, the story was good, and it was properly haunting as all things correlating to the zone should be.
I don't know who any of those guys are, aside from the military, who got wrecked in the first few minutes by a wave of zombies and heavily armed enemies
@@colonel_yuri The main character of the short is a Mercenary. The dudes in white you saw destroy the Military are called the Monolith. Overall a great depiction of setting and environment. Can’t wait to see what’s next
i like how he includes UNISIG buying the info from the merc, a faction from the UN that was cut from the game. they operate covertly to acquire information about the zone, but are also trained killers, like a combination of ecologists and mercs. a true fan indeed
@@jordancollings2889 True, though it is sad that Anomaly decided to turn Sin into Monolith+ instead of the first victims of the zone turned clandestine loners fearing for their lives to due what they have become.
I really hope heart of Chernobyl includes some of these cut factions. It would make sense that UN forces would occupy the zone and sin just seems cool/scary as hell.
@@davidponder1654 UN wouldn't make sense since they only act according to their member and ukraine wouldn't wanted the UN to interfere. It will make more if it was a secret russian faction instead that trying to gain valuables from the zone.
The Mercs is my faction when I play Call of Chernobyl so this is exactly like something I would have experienced while playing. From the base being the Dead City and encountering different factions fighting each other whilst travelling alone and having to fight off mutants only for the gunfire to attract others. A true STALKER experience.
Its a really good fan made film. The unfortunat news is that the creator of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was killed in Bahmut , few months ago. On his funeral , his wife stated that the only thing he ever wanted was to create new worlds for the people to explore. Rest in piece.

this was absolutely insane, well done. The rain effects on his wet clothes, the human and tactical movements... Along with a pretty convincing and 'realistic' portrayal of such a specialized mission: lots of waiting, patience, bursts of action and fearlessness companied with necessary moments of downtime (the bandaging, reloading magazines, packing of bags,...) If I could critique 1 thing it would be the lighting: if interesting sources of light and hues put more contrast between the highlighted spots and the darkness, then i think your beautiful animations, effects etc could've been even more appreciated. Right now it's very dark and imo too dark with not enough 'highlights' on the interesting stuff. But my god is this an amazing work of art. Well done 9/10
You could argue the fact that the only thing highlighted was the artifact at the beginning was a nod to how the only good thing that came out of the zone were artifacts.
@@durpyislost6212 A little, not that different but gamma is more immersive. There are some changes to missions and how you can accept them aswell but its still the same basis for the most part.
@@durpyislost6212 the missions are the same, i havent played anomaly much though. but i literally lost a few missions becouse the guy i got it from or the person i was supposed to go to died. also during a lot of missions anything can happen, you can get charged by various wildlife or zombified humans, there can be a sudden psy storm or nuclear outblast, even though these are announced beforehand by the scientists, once your focused on the mission you can forget about it completely. something as simple as 'collect seven boar paws' can turn into the bloodiest firefight you've ever seen, and then you'd still be lacking those boar paws.. the way the ai interacts with the world not needing your presence is the crux, going out and away from a good campfire? you can come back to find it taken over by a bandit group. heading out towards CCNP? better bring a few friends or hire some mercs to assist you becouse soloing that place is NOT recommended.

Using zombies as a distraction, and then sending in Monolith was really clever, and I hope that kind of thing is in the second STALKER. Also, love this to pieces, because it does a really good job of showing just how badly the ZONE wants everything dead, and how sometimes no amount of experience or equipment can help.
What distraction? They approached from exactly same direction. It was meat shield at best. And soldiers with stormtrooper accuracy, unable to hit ANYONE exept "exoskeleton" despite all monolith guys were just kinda standing(!) on the completely(!!) open(!!!) spot is just laughable. Mediocre fight but good animation.
@@vincentcrow6075 The distraction was the zombies shooting at them while pushing forward, so the soldiers didn't see the guy with the RPG until way too late. The Zombies in the house would probably have helped as well, if they weren't dead.
@@bubbasbigblast8563 again, they just walk in the open field head on few meters away from their "distraction". You missed so much. There is so much hiden facts in that games. First game called Shadow of Chernobyl, you can play it 5 times and experience diferent things every time (also diferent endings in 2007 make this game great for the time). There is diferent military groups, you can play with them and earn money to buy special suits only from traders in their baracks. Radiation and anomalies here and there. Mutants, bandits etc. Stalker world is live and always changing. Every your, or NPC move change some things. Shooting in stalker is so real. Bullets going randomly at distance and when your weapon is broken or damaged, precision is lost and your weapon can stuck every few bullets. If granade explode near you, your and NPC weapons will be damaged. You can find artifacts stones to improve radiation protection, slow down bleeding, enhance endurance etc. If u didnt play Stalker games, it is not late to start now. p.s. New Stalker is coming. Play older games to get feel for this game and when stalker 2 comes out you will be ready for this amazing new aproach that is coming with excelent graphics and huge map.
I was expecting another less than 5 minute short animation, was totally surprised when it kept going beyond that and saw that it was 14 minutes long, and to top that it was just as, if not more, impressive as the others before it. Tldr: holy shit this was great
this captures everything about the Zone in 14 minutes. from the Cheeki Breeki line to the spine-chilling Controller laughter. I loved every second about it. Especially the glazed eye scene when the Controller was first shown and the Monolith scene.
I really am impressed by the little details you put in this animation. From the cocking of the pistol to suiting up and arranging the guy's gear in the restroom. Absolutely amazing!
Ive always loved your work but I have to admit my favorite parts are how brutal you make the combat as it really is, the moments when a triumphant warrior just stands over a wounded enemy and just casually finishes them off always gets a reaction out of me, you stay true to the lore while also being realistic your proof that films can be great and characters can be liked with little interaction. I havent supported you on patreon yet but as soon as i have the money to spare i most certainly will as your work is a symbol of hope in entertainment

Hey, heads up - the guy behind the spooky Controller audio is quite thrilled to see it used for the Controller psy-fuckery here! While I have a preference for STALKER's vanilla models - since they fit into the world they live in and make up STALKER's identity - I think you did an impressive job with capturing the atmosphere, tension, and action of STALKER with the more modern HD models. Favorite part was the whole Controller segment, since it feels like you really took advantage of the medium here to properly show the capabilities of a Controller as stated in lore.
@@koraxx2085 Ah, I'm not the creator of the Controller audio - at least not the ones GSC made. Rather, Sodaz used the Controller audio from DesmenMetzger's Horror Overhaul addon for the Anomaly mod. Which he appreciates heavily.
The longer I play Anomaly, the more I find humor in the Zone, so I imagine Stalkers who stick around in that universe would have some sort of version of that sort of coping mechanism. That said, playing a brutal game and living a brutal life don't really compare.
I'd just keep my sorry ass in the Cordon. Shoot any mutant that comes close to the Rookie village and sell what I gut off to Sidorovich for spending money. I get that the Cordon is already dangerous as shit, but it beats everywhere else, aside from Rostok. But that's deeper in the Zone.
Thank you so much for making this, as well as sharing it with us. You are very talented! There were so many subtle things in this video that just had me saying, "yeah"... "awesome little bit".. Everything about it was spot on and you honoured this game with such dedication and attention to detail. I'm so so so grateful to you for making this. Thank you! Right down to the Blood-sucker's eyes glowing.. This really is awesome. Not gonna lie, I really thought the merc was going to take a bullet to the head in that doorway... you even had me on the edge of my seat to the very last second of this... What you have achieved here is better than some major block-buster movies.. I'm serious. You are so talented. KEEP GOING AND DON'T LET ANYTHING STOP YOU, EVEN YOUR OWN SELF-DOUBT, no no no, you KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING, REGARDLESS. Doesn't matter if you make no money- it's not about money, or success.. it's about creativity, connecting with others and telling your stories to everyone. Let all the other stuff be a bonus. Do it for your heart and you will go far :) Just to put what I'm about to say into context; I've played Computer games from the start, (green screen space invaders etc). Having said that, S.T.A.L.K.E.R is my NUMBER ONE favourite fps-style game of ALL TIME. Its replayability is one of its strong points. It is based on a true event, the aftermath of which, I witnessed unfolding on TV. It held me fixed like a controller, and it shook the entire world. I grew up obsessed with the mystery of radioactivity and its invisible lethal effects. Such a dangerous force that we don't give much thought to, but without Earth's protective atmosphere, and magnetic field, we'd be all too familiar with very quickly... I've always loved science fiction and science in general. This game has it all, for me. A connection to my personal past, laced with scientific content, exploration, outdoor survival, and small arms combat, it has me enthralled from the get-go. Horrific dangerous environments to have to come face-to-face with, your deepest fears- the game making you face them, having to step into that pitch black room, if you want to progress in the story... with only a torch-light and a limited supply of resources. I hate how I love this game so much!!! Some of my friends can't/won't even play it! If you've played the games, you will find a Easter-egg by way of a picture of the dev team, stood infront of the CNPP. I think it's either in the Dark Valley building, or the Army Warehouses, but it shows the dev team in a picture, hanging on the wall. i loved seeing that. I have the screenshots to remember it haha. But I am conflicted now, with sadness, great sadness, to hear that one of the devs of this beloved game series was K.I.A. defending Ukraine from invading Russian troops. I never thought I'd be having to come to terms with this, while admiring the smiling faces of the game devs, in their easter egg pictures found in the STALKER games... I'm just- lost for words really. Which makes your homage to this game all the more special. Thank you for contributing to the STALKER universe and enriching it's community with your AMAZING short story here. I am really looking forward to seeing, and sharing more of your work, awesome! :)
It is remarkable how this movie captures the essence of Stalker. The quests for ever-wanted artifacts, the poor souls of zombified stalkers howling like a human-shaped warning sign of whom any of us may become. The military clean-up operations running aground when faced by the Monolith. The unpreparedness of gopniks to whom it is just another day of robbing others or dying trying to do so. And the unpredictability of the Zone. The mere chance, that makes one an ally or an enemy, that makes one live or drawing their last breath. And above all, the ever present feeling of loneliness and decline. Let's drink to the makers of this movie, they are good Stalkers!

Right on most of the points, but one thing: The abundance of broken vehicles/APCs/etc. in the Zone is more due to the Zone having a deleterious effect on vehicles and large electronics. Remember Stingray flight? They had anti-anomaly equipment and some still went down with it, for no apparent reason. Vehicles just don't work within the Zone for some unknown reason. Even hardened/ruggedized military vehicles won't.
@@damienblackburn5459 No that was because the military didn't know that position of anomalies change with every emission. Vehicles work, but there is a lot that can kill them there.
Also as a fellow Stalker player I would like to clarify some things from your comment: On 7:31 this is not military shooting bandits but mercs (military always uses their camo uniforms where mercs use dark blue suits) aligned with ecologists (in games you can almost always found ecologists surrounded with merc guards because scientists pay the most) Also given how many things point out that this animation is based on Anomaly (different types of exoskeletons for example nosorog used by Monolith) probably these guards are part of ecologist faction in which most of the people utilise Merc suits (that's why their suits have dark blue colour like mercs) Regarding exoskeleton, the one used by the Merc (or more likely armed ecologist as in Anomaly they act separately) is a scientific version (in Anomaly most factions have their own version of different types of suits and armour) of proto-exoskeleton. Biggest differences between proto and standard version of exoskeleton is that the proto version lacks additional ballistic protection and an exohelm that can shrug off alot of different types of bullets especially pistol rounds (unless you have Desert Eagle) that's why he got killed by one shot from a pistol. Also given how main character completed mission for UNISG he can also be their spy undercover as a merc (alot of mercs comes from other countries than eastern block which can easily explain his English).
