"Real power isn't this. It's the ability to bend the world to your will."
One of my favourite characters in recent television, no doubt due to Giancarlo Esposito's incredible acting. Stan is an incredibly fascinating and terrifying character, some believing (myself included) him to be the most powerful character of the show.
So, here's a compilation of what I consider his best moments so far! (Up to S3 Ep 4)

@@WhyTho525 Homelander is transparent to everyone marginally close to him. The emperor has new/no clothes. Us, as the audience, see almost all the way through Homelander. Edgar can exploit the fact he's a fragile fatherless man who craves approval (from the public, or Edgar, or any other father) more than almost anything else. He doesn't want to be feared. But it's the only major card he can play. Everyone around him sees (and other than Edgar) fears his fragility. I really wish the fight choreography would reflect the fact that Starlight/Homelander/Maeve/whomever wouldn't really know how to fight, most of their adversaries wouldn't've been super. Being OP in every fight means these people wouldn't develop actual fighting skills. Butcher, if somewhat even to Homelander, should've rocked the fists-part of that fight.

@@DAndyLord I agree, and the fight between Soldier Boy and Homelander felt too uneven. Sure, I can believe Homelander being given superior powers and strength, but Soldier Boy was damn close, and was a highly trained soldier, so it should’ve been a little closer, it felt like Soldier Boy lost too easily (but he was tortured for 40 years and hadn’t had a real fight during that time, so I can put that fight aside). However, Butcher and Homelander? That was the fight that should’ve broke the camel’s back (Homelander in this instance), since both had very similar powers. But even then it felt a little underwhelming, tho it was still satisfying to see Homelander scared of someone for a change.

The irony of Edgar's decsion with starlight is that it probably would have worked out amazingly; She would have gone a long way towards cleaning house with heroes so that they actually have some sense of responsibility and vought would have been legitimized via those efforts. I think that it’s actually a part of a plan.We see early in the season that he wants out of the company and wants to sell V24 to the military.He knows that Homelander would try and get him kicked out after making Starlight co-captain .He used Victoria to get to Stan,he threatened to reveal that she was a supe after finding documents outing her. I’m sure he said he easily found them,Jesus Stan,it’s like you actually want him…to…find.I think Stan had actually planned with Victoria to get him ousted from Vought and put Homelander in charge.Homelander said that he would go on a rampage if the public hate him and he was told that there’s no one to save his image if (when) he fucks up. So if Homelander’s serious about the rampage that means the government are gonna have to find a way to defeat an unkillable man.What can they use against him? Maybe a drug which allows a person to get superpowers for 24 hours? Hell,Edgar might even find a way to cover up his tracks by saying it was just trickery by Homelander,therefore allowing him to regain control of Vought
@guitarhausdoesntknowwhatac3285
@@darknorman2914 This is pretty much how things go in the comics; The head of vought understood it was only a matter of time before the entire situation with ssuperheroes fell apart and ultimately sets up a contingency plan for dealing with the aftermath (it's even unclear whether or not he's still heading vought or not).

Stan Edgar doesn't need compound V to stand up to Homelander. He has something even more potent and powerful: capital. And lots of it. Considering that Vought is a defense corporation, a mega pharmaceutical company and film industry, he's probably one of the richest men in the world. And that type of wealth translates into immense power that Homelander could never wield or understand. The power to topple regimes, transform economies and shape government policy behind closed doors. Stan even said it to Starlight. Power isn't just coercive violence used by Homelander. It is "the ability to bend the world to your will" and you can't do that with violence alone. Stan is the 1%, he is apart of what Adam Smith called "the masters of mankind", the small class of extremely rich and powerful people who actually rule the world. Those type of guys make Homelander look like a pathetic child compared to what they're capable of

It has nothing to do with his wealth, all of homelanders life, if homelander wanted someone to be afraid of him, they simply were. Stan Edgar however never flinches at him, he can hear his heart beat he KNOWS Stan genuinely isn’t scared of him. And that SCARES homelander.
@andilezulu292
@andilezulu292 Год назад
@@belowaverage4721 It has everything to do with his wealth. If Edgar was a middle class average Joe, he wouldn't be able to stand up to anyone, especially not Homelander. His wealth and position functions as leverage. He literally pays everyone's bills dude and that means he has power over all the superheroes, who rely on their generous incomes to sustain their celebrity lifestyles. Extreme wealth translates into political power and social influence. Vought earns hundreds of billions in revenue each year and Edgar sits at the top of that corporate empire. His heart rate remains the same because you don't get to sit at the top of Vought by falling prey to anxiety and insecurity(like Homelander) His pursuit of corporate power is what makes him cold, calculating and extremely confident.
@vuxluongw
@vuxluongw Год назад
it does actually have nothing to do with his wealth and power. as big as Vought is of a defense contractor, it's still child's play compared to the actual U.S Army. the only thing they have going for as a pharmaceutical company is CV and well, we are seeing how that works out for them. V24 is their future, and that success is credited to Stan - the original Frederick Vought definitely didn't give that a thought, because he and his wife were a bit of a martyr themselves. Stan's real power is his willpower and his schemes/intelligence. climbing up to the top of the food chain in a company that was literally founded by a Nazi while being a black guy himself? that's willpower right there. you can never really kick him out of Vought, he will always comeback. and even if somehow plotholes kept him from doing so, eventually given time he will build Vought 2.0 while the current one burst in flames under Homelander's regime.

I wonder what makes someone like Stan Edgar. He’s ruthless and looks for ways to advance his power, yes, but it almost seems like he puts Vought’s success and well-being over his own interests at times, such as when he admitted to disliking having to use Stormfront to get people to accept compound V but that it would be best for stock prices. Or how he spent decades making Vought heroes America’s darlings and a major source of income but realized that they’re irredeemable and doomed to ruin Vought’s image and is now looking to get Vought out of the hero business he spent most of his life supporting, essentially erasing a large fraction of his own legacy. The man was closing in on retiring age (considering his likely income, he could have probably left decades ago) but was risking his safety and compromising on his personal comfort trying to ensure the company would still be going strong after he left (and you KNOW he’ll back to fix things once Homelander screws up). Did he have family who worked for Vought? A mentor? Or is he like Homelander who recently said that if the company falls he falls.

I think he is just someone who dosent care for all the man children that compound v makes; he realizes how stupid it is to give them permanent powers and the problems that come with them being random as well. @@lancethedecayedguardian2719 I agree that is the “point” in his character; however think about it like this. Stan Edgar knows the formula for Compound V and all of its various forms such as V-24. Stan Edgar also knows Homelander is a psychopath who has and will continue to murder people and has the means to do so. Finally Stan Edgar has people he cares about, and is ultimately human along with most likely caring for his own life. What makes his stand offs with Homelander even more impressive is that Homelander can literally always tell when someone is scared of him. He can both see and hear their heart as it beats fast and faster in his presence so he knows if someone is bluffing or faking being intimidated. This means that Edgar is one NO WAY pretending to not be threatened by Homelander. Edgar is smart, fearless, and correct. Homelander needs him and needs Vaught, because what Homelander truely wants he cannot get with his own powers. Homelander wants to be loved and worshipped, but for that he needs to hold back and allow for great PR and management. Homelander could use his full power to get small things he wants and make the world fear him, but at the cost of the love the world has for him. Homelander’a miscalculation is that he knows he needs Vaught, so he thinks he can kick Edgar and not lose out too much- but that’s not true. Because with people Homelander can puppet and intimidate put in charge, Vaught cannot actually fulfill it’s value of reigning him in for the public image.
