Barron's piano playing is at all times elegant, intelligent, urbane, sophisticated and creative. Its always a great pleasure to hear this most underated modern jazz pianist. Thanks for uploading this video. Much appreciated.
Yes ! Kenny Barron , one of the most talented pianists of this "modern" age . What a joy this quartet is , Stan looks as if he's having the time of his life . Just as exciting : Terry Lynn Carrington , in complete command of her trap set . Joy to you all !
Stan Getz Bb tenor saxophone, Kenny Barron Piano, Eddie del Barrio keyboard, Frank Zottoli guitar, Alex Blake Bass, Terri Lyne Carrington Drums. (1990)
@hellskitchen123 Try taking a lick, then playing the same lick up a semitone. Once you've got that down, try another lick. Then try adding variations as you go up until you resolve it with the minor ii-V-i back into the A.
Amazing performance and the recording to match it. Alex Blake sounds great but, man, his stance holding the instrument looks like he's hanging on it - like a kid playing a full scale bass. Never seen anything like it - but, like I said, he sounds great and you can't argue with that. Sound is all!
@pickinstone Haha dude, I was just being an ass hole! I don't know much of Terri's work but obviously if she is playing with this line up, she is killin it! + She sounds really good on this track. Just making fun of an stupid observation "Slows down quite a bit" by making an even more stupid observation. Just a dry joke is all :P
Are you freaking kidding me? She is right on it. I feel a hint of sexism in these comments. She’s KILLING IT. This is from a musician of 16 years very well acquainted with the concept of time, especially in Jazz. So don’t even come back with “you don’t understand Jazz or time”. SHE IS ROCKING IT. Dayum.
@SoDirtyYetSoClean check out Terri's more recent gigs, even Herbie Hancock praises her. I played with a drummer who happened to be a woman and she was killing on the sticks herself. Just frustrating because the minute we see that a musician is female and/ or very young we fail to hear the music and become fixated on the person. Music is primarily for the ears. Look at what happened to Adele with being a little over weight and a pop star. Amazing singer, but not as popular because of her weight.
My man I noticed other sexist comments about her drumming. I’ve listened to probably 500+ Jazz drummers throughout different records, and have played music for my entire life, a professional Jazz pianist myself, and I will say she is in the top 10 of any drummer I’ve ever heard. Her time is beyond even many of the great jazz drummers I’ve ever heard. Sorry sexists 🖕🏻🤷🏼♂️
